The SUDDEN Fall Of Kemba Walker [What Happened?]

Спорт

Kemba Walker’s time as an NBA starter - and possibly even as a rotation player - is over. Just 2 and a half years ago, we were all arguing over whether or not the Hornets should give him a max contract… and now, his career is basically done. What happened?

It's similar to Isaiah Thomas, when he was the first option and team was built around him, he was an mvp candidate because of his scoring. But as a role player, he doesn't play defense well, he's not a good spot up shooter, doesn't do any little things. When these type of players aren't the focus of the offense, it just doesn't work. Kinda like Westbrook too, only Westbrook is athletic enough to do other things, but he's not a good role player... the injuries don't help either...

Perfect comp! Except it’s less fit than guys that small need every bit of athleticism and speed & shooting , Thomas & kemba have never been elite shooters instead high volume bucket getters but streaky shooters, without the athleticism there nearly useless, kemba got some bench scoring left though but 15min max

That might be a part of it, but having watched Kemba's decline on my Celtics, it was almost all health. He stopped getting past defenders and was getting blocked a lot and he was missing like every other game and in the bubble he was great day 1 but i swear every game he got like 5% worse to the point he was like a mediocre backup level guy in the ECF.

@@bpdmf2798 he also never refined his game. A lot of players athleticism regress. Look at Chris Paul, his athleticism has been gone for like 5 seasons. I think its worth noting CP3 is significantly different from mostly every guard in the league right now. His worth comes from his point guard skills vs scoring. He can run an offense with his eyes closed, is probably the highest IQ player in the league next to Lebron and picks his and his teammates spots perfectly. Plus hes extremely talented even at his old age and size on defense. Plus he scores efficiently. His value has never come from his athleticism which is why he relied on those skills mentioned previously and differentiated him from Deron Williams. He just had a style that was always going to test time imo. His mid-range game is enough to get defenders to stick on through picks, his passing picks apart defenses and warrents being guarded because he can still take it past a lot of guys to get to the rim.

@@AppleJacksCereal Thats your opinion. I can recall many interviews with Lebron and his past teammates that exemplified his insane IQ. I believe it was Iman Shumpert that was saying that one playoff game, Lebron knew the play the opposing team was going to be running, he knew just by hearing the coach call the play, Shump said that Lebron knew the play before the teams own players knew what play was being called. Theres been so many accounts of Lebron recalling plays from 20 years ago, and getting his coach to understand the plays. Again, youre entitled to your opinion, but dont let bias distract you from the fact that Lebron James is genuinely one of the most intelligent NBA players ever. Dude knows everything there is to know. Just because it doesnt translate to the court everytime doesnt mean its not true. I do agree CP3 is one of the highest IQ players in the league, and probably history. But I still think Lebron has a higher IQ. Edit: kzread.info/dash/bejne/foB-j6Szn6mziJM.html Heres the interview w/ Shump. I mis-remembered the story but I still think the interview provides my evidence. @@Amm17ar Yes it’s no secret lebron has a high iq. I never said otherwise. What I am saying is that I don’t believe he has the highest iq in the league. I can think of a few players who can contest him in this regards, including cp3. There are many players with high iq’s, but at the end of the day it’s mostly opinionated on who is smarter than who. Even then, there’s different facets of iq. For example, neither Chris Paul or lebron James hold a candle iq-wise to tony Allen when it comes to defensive iq.

Tony Parker, Kevin Johnson, and Tim Hardaway all are short PG's who relied heavily on their quickness and yet had a couple of really good years after the age of thirty. To be fare, all three also had deadly outside shots and were much more pass-first PG's than Kemba, (especially Parker), so I take ur point

cp3's type of passing players usually age well. stockton, kidd, nash, mark jackson, gary payton, andre miller, rajon rondo. its scoring guys like iverson, kemba, marbury, francis that don't age well

NBA doesn’t teach you that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Charlottes market is weak bc MJ and crew refuse to make big changes. They will lose Melo in a couple years bc of this.

I still get super angry thinking about Terry Rozier. Danny Ainge tanked the Celtics for 2+ years post Kyrie by paying Kemba twice Rozier's money and the only thing Kemba did better than Rozier was attack the basket and he was getting worse at that. Rozier is bigger, faster, stronger, better shooter, better passer, better rebounder, and so on AND he's just now getting into his prime. The Celtics are still eating Kemba's contract and will at minimum eat 14 million of Horford's money and gave up the 16th pick just to see that 16th pick in the rookie all star game (I'm pretty sure).

Organization of the year, for sure. In every way, they're creating what the next modern NBA will look like and that's a great thing! Stars actually playing the regular season games, humility, ball movement (instead of hero-ball ISO's), off-the-ball movement, wins over individual stats, sense of humor over ego, etc.. Go C's!

Probably to never play consistently at the NBA level ever again. As a Knick fan, watching him play last year was heartbreaking. He clearly has lost a step and then some. He cannot create his own shot like he used to, he's slow to get to the paint (factor in his teeny height and you can see why that's an issue), and he was an absolute turnstile on defense that made him practically unplayable for a Knick team with a defensive identity. I loved those few games he showed the flashes of the old Kemba, but they were fleeting moments that were the last hurrah of a great but sad career.

The difference between Chris Paul Situation and Kemba is Chris Paul is crafty, doesnt use speed but rather his ball handling, craftiness and the guy is smart asf to get defense confused, and great passer too. Kembas game rely on Quickness, Speed and Ball Handling skills leaving defenders behind.

He played incredibly well at the start of the season. He started on the All Star team, and if you look back, he was mentioned every week on the KIA MVP ladder. Not to mention, he was the exactly the type of locker room guy the team needed to recover from all the nonsense and drama. As a Celtic fan, I'll always have a lot of love for Kemba. I actually hoped he made us look stupid this year by coming back to form proving everyone wrong. Sad story for such a good dude.
