I hope she is a survivor since the eccentric characters like this are mega death flagged usually, best they can get is chapter 5. Would be funny if she made it all the way through without killing anyone like Syo.

A small theory/headcanon of my is that Hu and Veronika met up, with Hu likely reaching out to Veronika because of her trusting David at the time and him saying that they should meet up with the person they got the secret of. Veronika reveals that she got Hu's motive. Due to the serious and deeply personal nature of both of their secrets(assuming if the theory is true), they agree to make a pact of sort. That they wouldn't reveal each other secret. This is why Hu uncharacteristically doesn't reveal her secret plus the one she got, but Veronika can mask the reason she's hiding the she got and which one is her secret while being "in character." With Veronika drawing the line at real life death and Hu's theorized being theorized to be... yeah. Veronika would definitely keep her word if this was the case.

I really like this theory!

I feel like I'm the only one who sees Veronika as a potential survivor, lol. Also, regarding her wanting to tell Teruko she had her secret, I can see that. However, on Teruko's secret being she attempted suicide 3 times, it's worth noting even after the motives are revealed, Teruko herself doesn't know which one is hers. I took this to mean MULTIPLE secrets also apply to Teruko, including that one (and potentially the self harm one), because of Teruko's injuries. I do agree on Veronika's secret being the harm one (in part due to her armsocks).

tbh i don’t exactly see the sh one, since it does explicitly mention that they TOOK ON their talent, implying that teruko who would be considered ‘talentless’ wouldn’t have it.

I hope so, and it would be curious to see a character like her, who is poking or trying to poke into people's minds, being able to survive. Sadly, I think Veronica will be a victim, since that tendency lies more into the "fuck around and find out".

ok, i personally feel like morality in a killing game is kinda obsolete, i dont hold anything against any of the characters for what they do INSIDE the killing game because the circumstances are so desperate that it brings out the absolute worst in people, which is why i love and defend characters like, byakuya, nagito, kokichi, and David, (the only reason i dont like teruko is bc shes the protag and having an apathetic and distrusting protag is annoying.) the killing game makes people resort to drastic measures, so the shit they do to benefit themself isnt necessarily something they'd do outside of it. i love david with all my heart, and on topic with this video, i love veronika too, i just feel like going too far is par for the course when your life is at stake.

I have never seen DRDT nor any of your videos before but this was genuinely such a great video. You explored her so well that despite knowing nothing about DRDT I feel like I understand Veronika so much as a character, your analysis and exploration of almost every little detail as well as exploring the character tropes and theorising what might happen to her were all incredible and so well done! Genuinely a really interesting and enjoyable character analysis, and now I wanna watch Despair Time!! I think Veronika will die a victim but for the soul fact shw fears realities consequences. The consequences of bothering Arturo who doesn't want anything to do with her could be a set up where he kills her and someone kills him. (for the double murder plot) Or someone kills her to frame Arturo.

I could see her being the chapter 3 culprit but that my be to oblivious but then again despair time has been following all the other chapters tropes chapter one vitim is the character who seems important chapter two victim is the character who try to change for the better.

Great video! I just recently started watching Despair Time, even though I spoiled everything for myself beforehand (that’s the kind of person I am). To be honest, Veronica is not only my favorite character, but also the most relatable character (not counting the part with horror films, I don’t really like them). And you perfectly explained why this is so. I've always loved villains more than heroes for some reason and as you pointed out my favorite Danganronap characters are Byakuya, Nagito, Kokichi (and Junko). Not only that, but when the characters reveal some dark/psychotic side of themselves, I automatically start to like them more. A simple example is Mikan. Before the third trial, she annoyed me, but after revealing that she has a more maniacal side, I began to appreciate her. Of course, it doesn't always work that way (it would probably be better if Korekiyo wasn't a serial killer). By the way, you made a good point about the fan base of these characters. NO, damn it, Kokichi is NOT a saint. I love him, but even I understand that not all of his actions are justified. To be fair, there are people who absolutely demonize him. In short, a black and white vision, as you said. No, Kokichi is not pure evil, but he is not an angel either. God, people, stop simplifying everything! Isn't Kokichi a good character because he's controversial? P.S. I don't think Veronica will turn out to be the mastermind or killer of Chapter 3 either. Although, rather, I don’t want this. Either victim or survivor please! Why can't a creepy (and sometimes sadistic) nightmare fetishist be a good person? After all, as long as her hobbies don't hurt anyone (directly), what's wrong with this character trait? Please, writers, don't make the same mistake as Korekiyo.

36:40 This part is my biggest worries with my Fangan I'm making, most of the antagonists to my MC are females, but all of them have their right in being so, One character calls out the MC for their relationship issues which is true, another is their actions in the plot and refusing to take help when it is literally the only way to move forward due to his insistence to do things on his own, and another for almost KILLING THEM ALL because he didn't want them to know his background for personal reasons(it's a long story). While my MC has his reasons, they are not justifiable to the actions he commits, and yet I feel like it will be hard the story of even sides when I can see the Fangan will attack the female characters, and given a portion of the fandom is...not progressive, the fact one of those characters is one of colour, gets me extra worrisome. IDK how to make it so that both characters are understandable in their own right Another than that, this was a great video, Veronika is slowly becoming one of my faves, and this video really helps with that, keep up the great work!!!

I don't know. I have to admit that as much as I enjoyed the video and the effort that went into it, this is something I disagree about regarding characters and the fanbase as someone who was around for the PSP fan translation of DR1. Considering the amount of liked female characters in both canon and fangans (Kyoko, Kaede, Rei, Sora, Missy, Teruko herself, Lyra, etc), I think Kokichi and Nagito would be just as popular were they female instead. Hell, Rei from DRA is quite similar to a female Byakuya.

Another explanation for Teruko knowing about the killing games could be that since so much bad stuff happened during the tragedy the killing games involving hopes peak are only commonly talked about in Japan, This is corroborated by the fact that in Mins bonus episode we learn that the original hopes peak wasn’t that well known internationally.

My stupidest theory: I have seen in other pieces of media that white strips of hair represent dying and coming back to life. Now I don’t think Veronica died and came back to life (multiple times) I think this is a representation of failed suicide.

For me, im guessing Veronika ro be a chapter 4 victim although i cant think of any culprit rhat would fit. I would say suicide but i know there wont be a trial so ???

Eh... i still loved teruko(her character) but hate her as a person, or i find her actions to be very annoying and frustrating, even if its understandable and realistic. Also, i just dont relate to protags like her as much as i do ones like makoto from DR 1. For david, love the character, but i dont condone his actions. However, i really like him bc hes so evil. But, he's probably not?? my favorite character in the series. But As for female antagonists, no? I believe these ones will be at the same leve, of popularity. I might update this later. That being said, i dont rly like comparing david and teruko, since theres no legit reason to, in my eyes.
