I think it's really interesting that more non-career victors survived than careers. I can't fully articulate why, but I find it kinda of sad? The career districts were so loyal, they did everything the capitol wanted, but in the end, only two of their victors survived. The capitol did nothing for them.

Just like how actual revolutionaries turned tyrants tend to betray their most loyal followers when they fall or during their ascent to power.

Given that the rebels won. It was no wonder that more victors from districts that sided with the rebellion survived. Plus the victors that did survived, almost all of them were the faces of the rebellion or had some part in it. The most interesting thing is how enobaria could survive

Because careers were targeted both by rebels, as they were seen as alliances of the Capitol, and the Capitol's forces, as they were seen as potential rebels.

I think the 75th contestants were secretly selected based on skill and star power. Snow wanted to insure Katniss death by both sending in the most lethal contestants AND the ones most likely to steal the attention due to their popularity. Like a very popular brother-sister team to tug on the heart strings. If Mags had not volunteered there would even have been another pair of lovers in the arena. Plutarch probably had a say and manipulated the selection in favor of his plot too, where he could. "This arena will be especially trap focused. Beetee and Wiress should be able to do a lot with that and are not above surprise mass murder"

Interesting, if true that would mean Haymitch’s name was intentionally put in the 12 reaping pile and not Peeta’s, which makes sense because I think Haymitch was much more of a threat to Snow than Peeta

I just realised .... of course there wouldn't be careers before the 11th games!! There's no career in winning and just being sent home to be as before .... it can only become a career once there's a victors' village and so on!

My favorites are Finnick and Joanna. I love Finnick because he’s used for something he can’t control so he finds a way to use that bend his circumstances to his favor. He never shows his all until he’s backed into a corner. I love Joanna because even in impossible circumstances she never loses her wit and she never lets anybody silence her. She loses everything and still continues to exist waiting for a chance to burn it all down and protect others from facing the same fate. I also love characters who claim they don’t care but actually care a lot.

That is a good point that I haven’t heard anyone else say before. If Cato would’ve killed Peeta and somehow also got Katniss, he would have been ecstatic up until the point when his own mentor would’ve then explain to him that he only killed the favorites of the cross lovers but also the chances of a double Victor, which would have probably caused him to be unfavorable in the eyes of the capital. And the twisting emotions that that entails could have caused more mental issues.

Snow didn't die from tuberculosis. The blood from his mouth, seen in several places in the movie, were "from sores that will never heal" according to Finnick, because he would often have to ingest some of the poisons he used to kill his rivals. I'm sure he had antidotes, but the poisons would still do some damage to his mouth tissues. Katniss noted the smell of blood beneath the perfume of roses during her interview with him in the Capitol before his trial. In both book and movie, he is torn apart and trampled to death by the spectators who came to watch his execution. When Katniss killed Coin instead, the spectators overwhelmed the barriers they were kept behind and mobbed Snow.

While Annie likely wasn’t popular due to her mental state, Katniss also states that she doesn’t clearly remember Annie and her winning due to it being the year that her father was killed. She was distracted from the games by her survival. Annie is very much a reflection of Katniss as someone who’d survive after a partnership with their district partner and lose their mind without them.

There’s Something I find very interesting the way Lucy gray won the games, and how her singing and the colourful snakes was actually representing how the capital view the games and the tributes themselves. The only tribute who lived was the one who gave the capital what they wanted. A performance, singing a song (playing the game the way capital wants) finally giving them something enjoy so instead of suffocating her like the rest they instead embrace Lucy. They’re an audience clapping after watching a play

My favorite victor is definitely Cashmere because of her almost defiance to the capital. Because of her past i like to believe that maybe she didn't want to win or be a career in 75th games. This would also explain why in the movie Cashmere acts along with Gloss and the other careers to attack the rebel group, however, Gloss is killed easily, but she still runs straight at the girl with the axe. In the youtube series you referred to, "The Tales if The Hunger Games", during the narration of the 75, Cashmere was shown to be scared in the arena. Also during the reaping she looked around when her name was called and seemed almost distraught that no one had volunteered in her place. I fully believe that this was true. During Cashmere's interview when she says that she couldn't stop crying that could have been true. I also believe that she mentored Glimmer, because of their similar strategies. Thank you for reading. And also amazing video and great work! Im very happy that this video was made! ❤️

I've always had a weird soft spot for Clove. Cato as well, but especially Clove. I think there was just something about the glimpses of humanity you occasionally see under all that brutality, especially when it comes to their relationship with each other. I always loved Foxface too. I adored her intelligence and the way it showcased that violence wasn't the only way to play the game.

  • @Katerine459

I read recently, and I think it makes a lot more sense than any other theory, that District 4 may be a "career" district, in the sense that their children are trained for eventual participation in the games... but not a "volunteer" district, in the sense that they have special candidates that are raised from birth to volunteer. Otherwise... it just doesn't make any sort of logical sense for Finnick to volunteer at 14, or for Annie to have been a volunteer at all. Because why have volunteer careers and not wait until they're older so they have the best possible chance of winning? Just because Katniss _believes_ that Finnick volunteered doesn't necessarily make it true, and I don't think it's ever explicitly stated from anybody who actually knows (Katniss was, I believe, 6 or 7 during Finnick's games). I think this also makes a great case for good worldbuilding, that "career" doesn't necessarily mean the same thing for every district. If District 4 is considered a "career" district, but it _doesn't_ actually have hand-picked children who are raised from infancy with the intention that they would eventually volunteer, but rather, District 4 trains _all_ their children for the Games, just in case.

This is basically true. The prequel shows that district 1 and 2 are the capitol loyalists whereas district 4 just happened to have an advantage in the games due to their district trade. District 4 were also one of the first districts to rebel. They are more of an honorary career district

I've always thought the careers were so interesting. While Katniss percieved them as monsters (justifiably so, given her circumstances) and they're often painted as just violent brutes, we have no idea what sort of psychological conditioning they were fed as kids, nor do we know how many of them went on some downhill spiral or were forced to retain a persona of perfection. The other tributes are tragic, but the careers are a special flavor of victim. Oh, and my favorites are Finnick, Haymitch, and Johanna.

Some of them wanted to alleviate their guilt for what they were doing cos they knew finnick wasn’t consenting. So they thought giving him money and presents was them being nice.
