Reasons why I think Whit is the mastermind. 1. He is the one who reveals everyone’s secret weapon and when asked where he got the information from he says “I got it from a friend” (monoTV?) 2. When they go to check the playground where Arei died Whit asks “do you think Arei is hanging out in their?” 3. Whit is knowledgeable on computers and algorithms(what is MonoTV?) 4. MonoTV makes many witty jokes like Whit. 5. He claims that Charles opened up to him about his secret but Charles was completely mute during the timeframe Whit claims this happened. 6. Whit tells Teruko and Hu about how everyone was given the necessities they needed in their room and Teruko brings up the fact that this could be evidence that the mastermind is one of the more compassionate students, Whit in response tries to mock her as being too paranoid. 7. He “jokes” about Min’s execution by saying they should put it on Veronika’s horror movie tapes.

He’s also the one who says something along the lines of “you should pause, this might be important” when showing the paper with everyone’s custom weapon, directly addressing the audience.

Teruko tells Arei that “failed hangings hurt a lot by the way…” which makes me think her secret might be that she tried to end her life multiple times, But the one you proposed is also very likely.

Actually, I knew about the secret profile of Mai Akasaki in the tumblr - however, I didn't even notice that the bio changed every time. Naturally, I went into the codes and I found that each bio is actually linked with a character as a variable (please don't hit me if I worded it incorrectly) and I connected it together into a list (below the cut) "Some years ago, she was searching for someone named 'Teruko Tawaki.'" TERUKO "A girl who loves her family." CHARLES "She remembers everything that is important to others." ROSE "A girl who sees the beauty in everyone." ARTURO "A girl with a floral tattoo on her arm." LEVI "A girl with many friends." WHIT "She kept calling the number, even though no one picked it up." EDEN "She kept it a secret, and told no one." J "A girl who wanted to keep everyone safe." another thing pointing to whit being the mastermind that i noticed is that in the chapter 1 trial when whit reveals everyone’s personal weapons that monotv gave to them, on the paper, he calls j, julia despite the fact that no one knew that that was her real name until chapter 2

Plus, still in Chapter 1, in the laundry scene, he's the one pushing Teruko to talk about her past, and spills his own story out like it was scripted. It's like he was doing it so the viewers would be interested.

a thing to Veronika mastermind is she talks about the monokuma thing and monotv saying how they look alike to scare people but she herself looks like Junko basically doing the same thing as what she said

I don’t think Veronika is the mastermind, but it is interesting she brought up, whatever the word was, face blindness. I think something about that is important because as you mentioned, many characters have hidden left arms.

It’d be super interesting if one of the characters with their arm hidden is hiding their floral tattoo because they’re actually Mai in disguise… I think that would be a wild twist but I can’t think of anyone who would be fake so it’s prob not true😅

I think Edend being mastermind would be overkill. You need to have at least one innocent and naive person to balance things out. Her being evil would also deteriorate Teruko's arc of trusting people. Her character is already well done so changing it for the shock value isn't worth it in my opinion. I didn't think much of Whit but after this video I may reconsider it.

I have a theory about Charles, the reason he has emophobia could be linked to his brother's death and why he doesn't remember it. When someone witnesses a traumatic moment at a young age, they can create phobias related to the trauma and especially block negative memories of the event, either psychologically or via medication. Maybe he witnessed his brother's death and that death involved a lot of blood loss, and that's why every time he consciously sees blood he remembers the incident and has a traumatic reaction without even remembering why. Or, you know, it could just be a phobia for no reason, something to add more to the character. It's just a theory I thought of a while ago, I don't expect it to become real.

I personally don't believe that Eden will be the mastermind, and while I don't disagree with your possible reasonings as to why she should be, I think there's more that can be done with her than just that. I personally believe that either Eden will have an incredibly tragic character regression arc where she gets betrayed over and over again, or Eden will be shone to be the "true hope/protagonist" of the game. I think the main reasons for both of these is that heartfelt speech where she tells Teruko that not trusting people is the worst way to live, with that either being proven true or tragically subverted. The whole series has a cynical "cant trust anyone" attitude that almost seems as a way to show that people can always do worse that what you expect out of them, which is a rather new and interesting take on the Danganronpa formula since most series (official and unofficial alike) go for a more hopeful in humanity direction. This series however, seems as though it might go the opposite direction with how mean and unlikable the cast can be at times. This would likely be most heavily emphasized in Eden instead of Teruko, as she is the one who is kindest and most trusting. The meta-storytelling of her story could be a "see, you were wrong to ever try" kind of story for her, either ending with her dying in chapter 5/6 through suicide(? it'd be the most sad), or surviving as a broken person. A bright star of a person whose light was snuffed by the inescapable awfulness of humanity, or something like that. Alternatively, if she's the "true protagonist," it could be the opposite. It could emphasize that through any and all hardship, hope triumphs, SHE triumphs. She'd be most analogous to Makoto Naegi and how his hopeful demeanor was affirmed by the end of the game. I personally am hoping for this, as it would be cool to see her, well, triumph her despair and raise everyone else up, not as her, but as a character helped by her. That despite everything, despite how downright mean people were to her, that her kindness and trust wasn't a mistake. That despite ending tragically short her kindness that helped Arei to change wasn't a mistake. The time of a clock ticks on, with or without us, and it took this clockmaker to fix the clock and set the course of time properly in motion..

I really hope they go the second route you propose. I'm tired of stories that treat optimism as ignorant and gullible, and the series has already stated that Eden isn't that. If they want to have a depressing ending it's their story, they can break Eden and that doesn't mean that the story will be bad, as they have already denied the "optimism is stupid" sentiment "realistic" stories have. I also just want a good person who isn't secretly twisted. Some people worry me with how fast some claim x character is secretly bad/insane, but I understand that it's fiction, so I won't think they believe that about real people. What does worry me is the hate I see her recieve for being "too nice and with no personality", specially those who applaude Arei because of her insults.

I never believed Eden could be the mastermind, not even a candidate to be. But I DO believe she won't make out the game alive, I feel she will sacrifice herself like Sakura did in the first game

@@uriolu8413 I highly doubt she is going to be killed. Her optimism isn't of a gullible kind, but rather the deep-rooted, radical optimism of someone that has seen a lot of shit, and chose to believe in people regardless because it's that or making the world worse and worse by doing nothing. She seems to have a really tragic story and is an interesting character, and her despair sprite in chapter 2 seems more of a red herring or a preparation for a sacrifice or for a necessary kill in a later chapter. As for the story, I think they're willing to go through a more nuanced kind of trust/distrust story, kind of the evolution of the Danganronpa 2 sentence "to trust people, you need to doubt them in the first place" kind of story. I don't the story is totally cynical, but it's for sure more grim due to how difficult is to trust people. So far I'm loving this story since it's very realistic and down-to-earth and not willing to cut edges regarding that.

Im still got a theory that there's potentially 2 traitors, a willing/knowing one and an unwilling/unkown traitor to everyone, even themselves. And my guess these roles would be Xander and Rose. Xander would be the willing traitor, as is connected to Xander even receiving the note to kill Teruko. On the other hand, Rose being unwilling traitor has to do with her debt. This is all under the idea that the company that took on Rose's debt is the organization behind the killing game. Xander could have approached said company in order to obtain information, only to be offered that information in exchange for making the killing game more interesting or a favor to be called in during the game.

There's no way it's not Whit and I'll be genuinely surprised if someone else turns out to be the mastermind instead of him. There's way too much evidence pointing in his direction, thought said evidence could've been placed to mislead us. Spoilers below - How did Whit know J's name was Julia in Chapter 1? - In Chapter 2, he says "Do you think she'd (Arei) be HANGING out in the playground right now?". While I don't think much of this statement, it could be a subtle hint the creators decided to include in the dialogue as the mastermind is aware of all the events of the killing game. -Whit just knows a lot of things about people that he shouldn't know, generally speaking. It feels like the things he can "tell about people" don't come solely from his instinct, it just feels weird to me. -He purposefully derails trials often, we can see this in both of the trials that have currently been released. It feels like he's there to keep the game going if the students are in trouble, to prevent everyone from dying and subsequently the game from ending. People always say to him "how did you not tell us this before?" or "we could've figured it out faster if Whit didn't keep his mouth quiet". He always seems to conveniently know everything, and he only helps when it looks like the group is going absolutely nowhere. It just looks like he's making an effort to keep the game going for as long as possible.

DRDT has great writing so I doubt they'd make that choice. Sorry, forgot to compliment the video in my first comment. But I really loved your in depth analysis of how every character could play the role of the mastermind, and I couldn't agree more with your take on Arturo lmao

Mhm, that's what I think too, I'm keeping an eye out before I make a decision regarding that fact as I am aware that it could be some sort of red herring with a justifiable reason behind it that doesn't imply Whit being the mastermind, but the chances of that being true are very slim, I think he's definitely either the mastermind or the traitor. He's definitely not a benefactor, since the theme of this game is trust and you definitely can't trust Whit, he's constantly hiding so many things, yet none of the characters seem to notice. He's straight up trying to fool everyone. The reason why I feel like this is true is Charles. Charles seems to be the deuteragonist of the story, serving as a "secondary protagonist". We already saw his character arc begin and he has gone through some notable changes already. One of those is, trusting Whit. Their unlikely friendship is loved by us fans. But since this game centers around trust and Whit has definitely showed in a subtle way to be secretly untrustworthy, they're definitely going to do something with the two of them later on. Charles was a closed off individual, an arrogant elitist. Now imagine if the first person he actually starts caring for and the only one who tried to be his friend despite his attempts to get away from everyone was untrustworthy and secretly rotten. That would be such a huge plotpoint for Charles's character and some phenomenal writing too.

I'm pretty sure the reason he knows J is Julia is just because the surname is so recognizable. He knows the name of Mariabella's daughter, so when Arturo makes that clear to the rest of the group, it's a no brainer to connect the dots. It doesn't really read as suspicious to me at all, since it seems like literally everybody except Teruko knows who the Rosales family is.

I love Eden a lot. She's honestly one of my favorites (other than Teruko), and it's probably cause of the simple reason that she isn't some terrible person on the outside and seems genuinely optimistic. I get that everyone in the story is kinda meant to be not good people, but I'm so tired of characters randomly snapping for a bit or for a while. I wish "terrible" people could be presented differently in the series, I guess. I keep referring to these moments as "insane moments" and got pretty annoyed by how often they occurred. I'm rambling, though. Here's the thing I haven't really seen people talk about and I think it's really important: Eden is an antagonist. She could even be *the* antagonist (which I personally believe). She directly opposes Teruko (and really, the others) and openly tells Teruko that there's more to her and that she sees Terukos way of getting by as wrong. I think it's really cool that someone who isn't evil and is actually the optimist of the group is the antagonist. People often see antagonists, especially in Danganronpa, as someone who's mean, evil, or really misunderstood, but that's not always an antagonist. Anyone or thing that opposes the protagonist and gets in the way of their goals is an antagonist. Eden wants everyone to get along and, from what I can assume, escape whatever place they're in and stop participating in the show. Teruko isn't really like this, and seems happy to stay since she's in a comfortable environment. Now, Eden isn't exactly a polar opposite to Teruko, but she definitely goes against what Teruko wants and can therefore be seen as a conflict to the story. I think everyone in the cast could be argued for as the main antagonist, but I really believe it to be Eden since we see her and Teruko a lot and she stands out the most. Anyway, with this in mind, I don't think she's the mastermind. I think that because she's openly (in my opinion) the antagonist and therefore already fills a role in a typical Danganronpa story. Yeah, masterminds *are* antagonists, but I see her like byakuya, nagito, and kokichi story wise. I also understand despair time is more unique from Danganronpa from other fangans, but I also just think Eden has more to her character than the potential of being a mastermind. TLDR From what I can tell, nobody really acknowledges the person I think is the main antagonist, Eden, as such. Because of my beliefs, I don't think she's the mastermind and will rather serve the role of antagonist in the story. I think there's more to her then potential mastermind. I'm no analyst, though, so feel free to fight me!

my main suspects for this chapter are Levi and j, and I believe chapter three will revolve around ace and Charles, with Hu and whit as victims (no idea who the killer would be) then ace and nicos conflicts worsen, with Nico dying in chapter four and ace getting huge development.. and ace and Charles both being survivors or dying in chapter five, though I do have my mastermind doubts. I feel like whit and j are maybe the most likely for the mastermind, with Xander and teruko and Mai being suspects too. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if the mastermind didn’t know anything about them being behind the game. If that happens, someone like teruko becomes more possible. (Sorry this was just my rambling about how drdt will go lmao 😭)

I thought eden was the mastermind since the start, shes just so suspcious

min is lowkey suspicious in my mind just because of all the coincidences 1. conveniently holding a bucket of water 2. procrastinated on cleaning up the cake apparently which seems completely OOC for the ultimate student 3. remembered her pen had a knife despite the fact that she's only had it for like three days 4. conveniently there at the exact same time and place charles is running 5. could've just turned off the lights?? why would she freaking cut them off my god 6. could've also just went directly across to the movie screening room screaming which is the instinctual reaction in my mind. plus veronika and arturo were there so that's witnesses 7. secret mai akasaki quote is "an average girl with nothing special at all about her." which is like. kind of suspicious. so unspecial that's shes special. does that make any sense

My predition is that the mastermind is Arthuro. The ones with masks do tend to be more insane and I already sense darkness in him enough to be a mastermind candidate. Also there are 6 characters I want to be the survivors of Despair Time and Whitt is one of them so I really don't want him to be murdered, a blackend, and especially not the mastermind.

I have a thought that they might do chapter 3 where 2 seperate ppl kill and only one gets executed.

It would be very interesting if like J and Arturo killed each other, tho I want J to survive And the situation would be similar to DTHH ch 4 at the execution

David could've easily lied about it being Xander's, which is likely why he wanted to go last in revealing his secret so he could use of the dead people to use as a lie to keep the secret to himself.

Whit maybe the mastermind. He’s so smart and there are alot of things I think people overlook that make him sus. (No among us joke’s please).

my theory is that monoTV lied and none of them are the mastermind

Personally I think that Eden and Ace will both be survivors as Eden is living on for to many people and Ace had a fake out death in chapter 2 so it would be weird if he just died later. Also I don’t think that Levi is the killer, personally I think the killer is, and don’t hate on me for this, Whit Young, the Ultimate Matchmaker. This is because there not only is the “hanging out” line you mentioned but also a few other facts, such as how he’s being mysteriously quiet this Class Trial and Whit doesn’t really have any story left to tell as we’ve explored all angles of him except him as a killer, whereas Levi and the other big character people think could be the killer J have a lot of story potential left, especially if your right about who you think Arei received the secret of.

I NEED Whit too be the mastermind.

okay i KNOW this was posted months ago, but after comparing the special weapons list that whit has, if we were to assume he wrote it, the forged note that mentions eden wanting arei to meet her in the playground, has very VERY similar handwriting, and you can especially see it in the i's and t's. and with this said, if the special weapons list is completely true (assuming none of it had been altered by any of them, including whit) whit's special weapon is a STATIONARY where it could be quite easy to possibly *forge* notes. if whit isn't the chapter two killer (which I don't feel like he is to be honest) that is very important information to know even if the fact is that he has a stationary.
