The Story of Silent Night
The quick video explains the creation of the Christmas carol, Silent Night, by Josef Mohr and Franz Gruber. Silent Night is one of the most famous Christmas carols in history, but who wrote it and why?

Thanks for these type of videos Mr. Reeves! I think they will help Christians of different traditions to appreciate the rich contributions of the Catholic Faith, specially since I have encountered people who claim that Catholics are not Christians. Great video!
Silent Night and Amazing Grace. Beautiful.
I remember John Denver explaining the origin of Silent Night on John Denver & the Muppets whe I was a kid.
Thanks for this. Merry Christmas.
This is really a very cool channel, I'm hooked
Thanks Dr. Reeves! You're videos are so incredible! Franz Gruber is quite well known in classical circles, I had no idea that he was instrumental to Silent Night's origin.
Really interesting.
Ja (you say: yep), Austria!
Does anyone know where I can find a performance of the more upbeat original version?

Maybe Manowar' (as show in the beginning of the video) is rather fast?
Hans Gruber like the Die Hard villain!? Edit- misheard but damn close
that's not the story i was told. I was told that that the organ was eaten by mice the night before christmas and so a new song had to be written that would play on the remaining working notes
