Continuing on with the Career of Hulk Hogan, we have reached 1993 and the Hulkster's return to the WWF.
Bret Hart had become the WWF champion when he defeated Ric Flair in 92. The WWF was trying to move in a new direction with a smaller but more athletic superstar at the top of the ladder. With guys like Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior gone at the end of 1992, and superstars such as Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon getting WWF title oppurtunities on pay per view, it looked like the WWF was ushering in a new era. This came to a screeching halt when Hulk Hogan returned to the WWF in February of 1993. Hogan would ultimately overshadow WWF Championship main event match at WrestleMania 9.
The main event of WrestleMania IX featured Yokozuna taking on WWF Champion Bret Hart. Yokozuna had won the 1993 Royal Rumble and Hart had been having some good matches in the run-up to Mania. The WWF seemingly took a few steps back when they decided that Hulk Hogan would end up winning the WWF championship at the end of WrestleMania IX (even though he wasn't scheduled to have a WWF title match at the show). After all the hard work that Bret Hart and other guys put in during Hogan's absence, Hulk Hogan seemingly waltzed back into the company and took away the WWF championship.
This video looks at Hulk Hogan and the WrestleMania IX main event. Topics and matches covered include:
00:00 - Hogan makes his return in 1993
06:56 - Yokozuna, Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan and the WrestleMania IX main event
10:30 - Hulk Hogan vs The Great Muta
12:11 - King of the Ring 1993
13:31 - Hulk Hogan leaves the WWF once again
19:42 - The WWF after Hulk Hogan's departure
- Much More!

@AAAnderson055 well it was good for a minute but hogan's popularity was still on the decline and completely killed hitman's credibilty to me at the time. I was beginning to accept him as champ and for hogan to this without putting over bret either was such a wasted opportunity.

Agreed plus he was the first “real” person to be at the top that you could relate to one way or another after the big over the top characters like Hogan and Warrior. Brets matches looked real. Two wrestlers in the ring fighting to win. He was believable from his holds to his punches also his selling. But yes as you have said we watched him move up the card gradually and having the best performances so he earned it and a lot of us were ready! I know I was🤘

@Alex Kanyima yea I didnt like it. But in a way it added to the instability and unstable aura of the macho man. He also eliminated himself in the 92 rumble when jake came out. He got his hands on jake, eliminated him. And proceeded to jump over the top rope to attack him some more. But they put him back in the match and acted as if it didnt happen. That just IS....The Madness. And he totally skipped his 18 spot in another planned "botch" in the 91 rumble, running from an irate and out of control ultimate warrior fresh off of a title loss due to savage. Even the 89 and 90 rumbles, savage was fun in. He had already established some precedent for the unexpected before the 93 rumble.

Wrestlemania IX is simply short-sighted hot shot booking which WWE still does now with the likes of Brock Lesnar and Goldberg. It would have been great to see a long-term rivalry between Bret Hart and Yokozuna rather than the joke we got. I was upset at this as a kid in 1993 and I'm still upset watching it back.

It was hard to watch the wwf in 1993 yeah they still had my favorite wrestler in Bret hart, Shawn Michaels, crush, Ted dibiase, the undertaker and a few more. But when hulk Hogan came back things were different it wasn't the golden days anymore and by this point I was already done with hulk Hogan.

This was a strange ending. I remember after this Hogan went to Japan and did a press conference saying the WWF belt was a toy compared to there belt IGWP belt or whatever it was. The wrestling magazine also made a big deal about that because Sting was on the same card. Hogan was already planning his WCW escape as vince was going new generation.

@Alex Kanyima that's you looking back on it now. But the crowd in the 92 royal rumble booed him. Because they saw Sid Justice as the new guy. And by 92 the 80s were very uncool and Hulk represented that ere.

Like I've said before, Hogan was so ahead of his time, he cashed in Money in the Bank, before there even was a Money in the Bank. After all, Maga Manacs VS Money Inc, Hogan got a briefcase. 😉😂 But seriously, do enjoy your videos. Thank you.

I think a good ending would be Yokozuna winning the title the same way, then beating up Hart after the match. Only for Hogan to come in and chase off the heels WITHOUT challenging for the title right then and there. End on the visual of Hogan and Hart standing tall in the ring for that "Send the crowd home happy" moment even though Yoko still leaves with the belt. That way you tease a Hogan vs Yokozuna match in the future. And then you can decide later on whether it should be Hogan or Hart that finally topples Yokozuna.

Hindsight is 20/20, we look back at this debacle and know how stupid it was. But Hogan was still the biggest draw in wrestling. He got a bigger pop than Bret did. People were happy he was champion then.
