Hulk Hogan in the nWo - Year 1

Спорт

Wrestling Bios Presents - Hulk Hogan in the nWo - Year 1
When it comes to success and popularity in the world of wrestling, Hulk Hogan is a name that stands out. Without Hulk Hogan, the WWE would not be where it is today. When Hulkamania was running wild back in the late 80s and early 90s, fans sold out arenas and tuned into WWF programming to see Hulk Hogan emerge victorious time and time again.
When Hulk Hogan left the WWE to join WCW, his fan reactions were not what they used to be. Seeing that pro wrestling was evolving, Hogan made the decision to turn into a wrestling villain and form the nWo along with Kevin Nash and Scott Hall. This change in character gave "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan a much needed boost, and along with the nWo, he was able to not only change the face of WCW, but change the professional wrestling landscape once again.
This mini documentary from Wrestling Bios takes a look at Hulk Hogan's first year as the leader of the New World Order. Topics covered include:
01:31 - Hogan's changing popularity in WCW before the nWo
02:20 - Hulk Hogan's WCW contract and his pay bonuses
04:58 - Bash at The Beach 1996 and the formation of the nWo
09:23 - Hogan becomes WCW Champion at Hog Wild 1996
11:05 - Hulk Hogan vs Macho Man Randy Savage at Halloween Havoc 1996
13:10 - Hulk Hogan vs Roddy Piper at Starrcade 1996
15:00 - Hulk's WCW Nitro Schedule
- Much More!
Original Hogan Theme Remix by Jayde Garrow.

Hulk’s decision to turn heel and be the 3rd man for the nWo was absolutely the right course of action. He was once again one of the hottest stars in wrestling and it kicked off a boom period not just for WCW, but for professional wrestling in general because NOTHING gets Vince McMahon into high gear quite like beating him at his own game.

He rivaled Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Shaq & other faces of the half-court of his era, much like infamous late 80's boxing icon, walking Punch-Out! home console port endorsement, early 90's convicted rapist & questionable WWE Hall of Fame Celebrity inductee "Iron" Mike Tyson did by gnawing on fellow boxer Evander Hollyfield's ear.

That was fine....assuming the logical happend. Sting beats hogan CLEAN 1.2.3. or tap out at starcade 97. Either way its clean. Hogan goes away for awhile (at least 6 months) nWo is in disarray. The faction splinters and never recovers to full strength. The problem was Sting's 18 month journey that culminated in "victory" meant nothing as the nWo kept chugging along. I think hogan even got the belt bak in like 4 months

You really have to admire the sheer balls of hogan to ask for all those bonuses in his contracts. I just can't fathom the kind of money he made in the 4 or 5 years he was in wcw. The money wcw must have been making in order to pay him and everyone else massive money and still turn an enormous profit must have been out of this world. Then they go ahead and start throwing money at basketball players and nfl players. When you dig into it even a little it's on a whole other level than any of us realise.

Of course he did. He borrowed a lot from the formula Nitro was using to beat the WWF during that time period. He clung on to the comic style of the 80s and early 90s for a long time before he smartened up and realized that people wanted to watch a product geared towards a more "mature" audience. Bischoff was doing the heel authority figure long before McMahon decided to take that role for himself (and did it better, even though Bischoff was a great smarmy heel).

one of the all time iconic great moments of Hollywood Hogan was NWO at its peak and Hogan at his slimiest but coolest. Hogan does the old classic Heel maneuver where he tries to get the ref to believe that the face was cheating by grabbing his hair and yanking him. Hogan goes to the audience for approval, and the crowd goes wild in agreeing with Heel Hogan. Never had that happened before.

I never knew that about Hogan (although I shouldn't be surprised), that he worked all of his obligated matches first of the year. I always thought by him not wrestling on Nitro, Thunder, Etc. it was his way of building himself up, that he was the man in charge now and only he decided when he would defend the title. Seriously had no clue that wasn't the case at all. Another great video. Thank you.
