Hulk Hogan had his last WWE match at Summerslam 2005 where he faced Randy Orton. Billed as "Legend vs Legend Killer", The Immortal Hulk Hogan would work his very last bout against a young and hungry superstar who had a seriously bright future ahead of him. Would Hogan "do the right thing" and give Orton the win?
Hulk Hogan's reality TV show "Hogan Knows Best" had been airing on TV and the Hulkster was trying to elevate the singing career of his daughter Brooke. The WWE agreed to air a Brooke Hogan music video in the summer of 2006 and a little cross promotion was done between VH1, Hogan and World Wrestling Entertainment. Randy Orton thought the music video was great but he thought Brooke Hogan was even greater, and Orton was looking forward to meeting Brooke and Hulk when they made an apperance on Saturday Night's Main Event. Orton would end up challenging Hogan to a match at Summerslam, and the Bollea family was used to further the story (something a lot of wrestling fans didn't care for). Orton vs Hulk would turn out to be Hulk's final WWE match (although not his final wrestling match). This video looks at the entire Orton vs Hogan buildup and the Summerslam encounter.

I was a huge "Hollywood Hogan" and N.W.O fan in the mid-nineties. So it sucks that as I've gotten older I've had to realize his shenanigans and burials. This is one of his more egregious political moves. I was happy Shawn oversold to such a comical level. That's still one of my fav matches to watch. I wasn't a big orton fan at the time but "come on...brother". Hulkster should've put Orton over on his way out. Even if he didn't know it was his last, he certainly knew the tank was running dry. It just makes me laugh when people try to go in on Bret when he literally made every other guy on the roster, even guys first on the card, look better than they actually were, while continuing to blow smoke up Hogan's arse no matter how much evidence you can reel off on a relay for not putting guys over and being a clear mark for himself. The guy can just do no wrong in some people's eyes. Bret produced some of the most memorable matches on events that were overall lacklustre and distinctly average, yet his reward was always being a placeholder for the WWF title to give to someone else less talented. I just don't understand the mentality of some fans, the cognitive dissonance is real. This whole situation summed Hogan up to a tee, but I take from it that RKO on the back of the car.

I feel like Orton really needed this win cause at this point he was a little directionless after being suspended for 30 days and his feud with Angle being finished. Like Orton was just thrown into this feud and he should of won. He bounced back sure being in Team Rated RKO but that wouldnt start for another two months after this match at Summerslam. Apparently this wasnt going to be Hogan's last match for the WWE with the original plans for the Battle of the Billionaires at Wrestlemania 23 was going to be Hogan representing Trump vs Big Show representing McMahon. Things fell through obviously due to Big Show being burnt out and leaving the WWE in February and Hogan and McMahon not being able to agree on the money i think
