@@alanwerner8563 Because getting her to let go of the baby for him to receive care is almost impossible without sedating her. Gorilla babies need to be fed and kept warm constantly and Genki wasn't able to do it with Gentaro. It would be cruel to sedate her every time they needed to feed Gentaro.

Everytime I watch this video I cry, they way Genki looked at him thru iron bars broke my heart, especially when she tries to kiss him, touch him. Then when he finally came, they way Genki was walking all around him, shielding him, that was so precious!! Genki will always have to mother of the year award, she is one amazing gorilla mama. She has been thru so much, all she ever wanted was her own baby, well-deserved! Kudos to the amazing gorilla human daddy, so much dedication, patience, compassion & determination. Job well done sir! You should be recognized & rewarded for your role as a human/gorilla parent in the Zoo Society around the world, you should train keepers willing to take on that role when needed. It’s all about the Gorillas 🦍 and Kyoto Zoo Gorilla Team made that happen & saved one more species from going into extinction. Much respect to you all. 🇺🇸🫶🏻🦍🩶🖤🦍🩶🖤🦍🏆

It’s amazing how after 10 months apart, Genki takes to her baby as if they we’re always together

His keeper seems so proud of Gentaro......like he's Dad.

I always thought that too and he still looks like a proud dad when you see him watching Gentaro or talking about him. He has a big proud smile

Cuteness overload. Gentaro was a beautiful baby and so adorable and funny. Genki was and still is a wonderful mother. Now I hope people can see why she is so protective when it comes to her boys especially Kintaro. Thank you for your video.

beautiful video. I knew all this but it upsets me when people say Genki needs to go, and Momo needs another partner. Genki has hard a very hard life, as well as Momo and they are good together. Thanks for putting these videos together so people know the background of the family. Genki was really all alone until Momo, and he also was all alone, so together they are good. It puts a lot of things into perspective for people who don't know all of their backgrounds. Again great job on putting these videos together.

I actually think Momotaro has become a softie even more with Kintaro. Fatherhood is making him a better Silverback. I wonder uf he a Genki were to have a female baby would Momotaro be even more tender?

I loved this so much, I'm sure it's simply because Kintaro is the newest and smallest addition to Momotaro family and seriously who doesn't love a baby.....but Gentaro is sometimes so underrated, over looked, over shadowed by Kintaro, however you want to see it but he is an exceptional young man/ape, his life is such a success story and he has more personality than I've seen in a lot of humans. I absolutely love his dancing, I thought that was just a Kintaro thing but boy does Gentaro have the moves. People talk about how strong Kintaro is and how he never gives up but if more people saw this upload and knew a whole lot more of Gentaro's story then they will see that Gentaro is every much the superstar as his brother and Kintaro has the best big brother and role model in the world. Kudos to all the staff at Kyoto Zoo, you guys did a wonderful job and again can I just say what an AMAZING mother Genki is and an AMAZING father Momotaro is, especially seeing as Momotaro had no father himself and Gentaro was the first baby for both of them. I love Momotaro family ❤️ 💓 ♥️ 💕

What a great mother Genki is. It was so sweet to see how excited she was when she finally got her son back.

Amazing ! & when u know the facts to everyone’s life’s it really puts their personalities into perspective, like for example how genki was so overprotective for kintaro she didn’t get the chance to raise gentaro from birth like she would have wanted . But non the less she is an amazing mom & even MoMo how he didn’t have a father but has slowly found his way as a great silverback dad ! I love them 💕💕💕

Genki is an awesome mom....God bless her. Momotaro loving Gentaro and playing with him is just beautiful. So very happy Gentaro was accepted back by both parents after such a long separation. Love love Gentaro 💖💖💖💖

Genki truly is a beautiful mom who takes her job extra seriously which is beautiful to watch as she nurtures and seems to genuinely enjoy the company of her little ones.

Yes, they were both very accepting and loving even though he had been taken from them for a long time.

Sigo sin entender por qué hay personas que no les gustan los vídeos de animales. Ha sido un trabajo maravilloso, Gentaro estaría orgulloso si pudiera ver y entender este vídeo de el, desde un poco antes de nacer. Extraordinario trabajo tanto de enseñar la vida de Gentaro en el vídeo cómo lo que hicieron por el, para que saliera adelante. También el trabajo que tendrían con Genki y Momotaro para que a los 10 meses no fueran a rechazar a su hijo. Pobre Genki, como estaría de ansiosa por querer estar con su hijo recién nacido.

En su momento lo pensé también, pero desde que empecé a ver la familia de Momotaro he cambiado de opinión ya que están en un lugar seguro, tienen todas las ayudas necesarias allí, pudiendo disfrutar de su familia. En la selva igual Genki hubiese perdido a Gentaro. O no existiría ninguno porque ya el hombre salvaje hubiera ido a provocar una masacre para conseguir lo que quieren de estos animalitos. En el día de hoy admiro lo que están haciendo por estos animales, además que no debe de ser nada fácil este trabajo en todos los sentidos aunque debe de ser super satisfactorio.

First, I'd like to thank you for sharing Gentaro's beginning into this world. It's hard to believe just 9 years later what a sweet big brother he has become to Kintaro. Genki has been through so much in her life and it was hard to watch her wanting to touch her first born son through the bars of the enclosure. She is one fantastic mom and Gentaro is a great brother who has a bright future.

This is so educational and I a learning that the zoo keepers are very proactive at this Zoo and are quick to intervene to save a life when they need to . The animals are closely monitored and the staff do a great job of preserving this wonderful beings. From how Gentaro is now I can see he will be an amazing silverback.

I’m so glad that they gave Genki the opportunity for a family. It’s so sad that she had to go 10 years by herself but she did have problems being bullied by other gorillas in the past.

She's not by herself for 10 years, during that time she was sent to different zoo to mate with other Silverbacks for breeding program. In Genki's life she ever lived with Silverback Biju (Momotaro's Dad), Gon & Kenta but they have no offspring until the Silverback passed away. Then Genki sent back to Kyoto, not long she met Momotaro and finally have Gentaro in her 25 yo age.

⁠​⁠@@bilirubin5877When she was at that other zoo, she lost 95 lbs, couldn’t carry a baby to term, was shunned by the gorillas after a dominant female arrived, and as a result of all this she chewed off one of her own fingers. Thankfully they sent her back to Kyoto zoo were she was matched with a kind & gentle Silverback.

Such a wonderful heart warming story..thank you for this. Now it makes sense as to why Genki always has Kintaro close to her..

This is the first time I have seen this video. So much love. Made me cry with happiness for this family.

It's so wonderful to see all of Gentaro's life. Like his father, he had a lot of troubles to start with, but Momotaro has been patient and has worked to become a loving father for Gentaro. Now, with a little brother to entertain (and occasionally steal from Genki), he has really blossomed into a strong young blackback. I look forward to watching him grow, along with the other members of his family, and I can't wait for your next installment on this wonderful family. Thanks for sharing Gentaro's life with all of us!

The zoo did a wonderful job. Sometimes people criticize the zoo's for taking the baby away from the mama and raising them by hand but he would have died had they not. Through no fault of Genki. 💗🦍💗

What a happy ending to a rough beginning. It broke my heart watching Genki seeing her baby through the bars and not been able to touch him. Now that we know what a great protective mom she is, it must have hurt so much! 😢

What a beautiful video. He was so stinkin' cute when he was a newborn! It must have been hard for the keepers to give him back to his mum in a way, although it was always the ultimate goal. I love the part where Momotaro did not know what to do with Genki and so she scooted right under him, like "come on big boy. let me show you. I've waited a long time for a baby". Such a lovely story. Gentaro is a wonderful gorilla. You guys did a fantastic job raising him until he could go back with mum.

beautiful video. Many times we are hard with gentaro, but he is a child that does not grow, I think he wants to be an eternal baby of genki and momo. sweet gentaro 😍

Now that you mention it, yes, Gentaro will be 10 this year which makes him "officially" a Blackback and not a kid anymore, but he still looks and acts very much like a little boy. Maybe he will get to stay with the family much longer. 😃

Just like human are so different and mature differently perhaps Gentaro has a few more years with family. It would benefit Kintaro to still have his brother and Momotaro would definately teach Gentaro how to be Silverback, since he himsrlf did not have that. Momo father died when he was baby.

Our dear, gentle Gentaro. We love him so!!! Genki is an exceptional mother. It's amazing how she checked Gentaro all over his body to make sure he was okay - just like a human mommy.

Such a lovely story of the start of Gentaro's life. I like the way Genki was watching close at Momotaro as he was trying to look at little Gentaro.

Now i understand why she did not like the zoo keepers to play with him she thought he was going to be taken back to them. Its only natural to not want your baby raised by someone else but man she is a wonderful mother one of the best i have seen

Wouldn't it be wonderful. I was absolutely needed of course. I got to hand feed a gorilla once and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I will never forget it.

Lol Genki always wanted him. She chose Momotaro from the start. They showed her Silverbacks on video and she clearly showed she wanted him lol😍

Its so kind & generous of them to take such tender & loving care for these beautiful babies. Such patience, such skills to appear as much as Mom as possible. And then return happily to his mama's loving arms.

It’s nice to see the mother and son re-bonding. But Gentaro’s world with his mom just got smaller. Before he was out and about with the human caregivers, now the circumference he lives in is a small cage enclosure he has to share with his parents. Wish his home was the entire zoo, I see that the caregivers love them, but if we can not safely place them back in the wild, then at least give them a better environment, that goes for all captive animals.

I agree, but on some videos taken from a different angle, their enclosure it a lot bigger than it appears on most videos. Inside has many rooms too. Not as nice as Higashiyama but that one cost 6 billion yen.

A "small cage"?? They do not live in a small cage!! Just because you can only see small parts of it in a video does not mean that is all there is to it!! Trust me, there are many different areas to it and it is nowhere close to just a "small cage"!

@@GiselSimon REALLY 6 billion yen??? The Kyoto zoo don't have to take that much yen . Just some adjustments and simulation . Even a little pond where they can soak their feet and wash their faces . Maybe even more trees 👍 where they wouldn't pull down . I think with the help of surporters it can be done . Every home needs an upgrade . Don't you think 🤔 ?? They deserve it 🤗😍❤️🍷

The Kyoto Zoo blog stated that Genki was very angry at first when the zookeepers supplemented Gentaro. However, she gradually got used to it, and Genki allowed the keeper to feed her.

The people who took care of Gentaro did a great job. Today, Gentaro is a happy mischievous gorilla as he should be. Love him. ♥️ And, he grew up so very handsome. His face is so nice.

Gentaro is the most handsomest of the family!

I think they are all wonderful in their own way, but I have to tell you that Gentaro is my favorite too. He is so good with Kintaro and has such a sweet air about him. I love Kintaro, of course, because he is a baby and everyone loves babies, but Gentaro is such a sweet soul. He stole my heart. ❤️

What an absolute JOY to help these so very precious babies survive.

I tell you I just love this gorilla family. I can sit for hours watching them.. I tend to relax watching the family. They are all very loving to each other.

Gentaro is such a handsome young ape. I just love him. He looks so much like his mom its crazy.

7:41 That is hands down the cutest baby anything I've ever seen! Way cuter than human babies.

Its so cool tho that gorilla could express to the mom that she was a mother too, and it was crystal clear without ever involving language. We should take a lesson from that interaction. Im sure other moms know what i mean. I got goosebumps, and within the 1st minute the tears came...

What a magnificent surrogate 'mother'! Good job!!!

I loved this video! Gentaro has overcome many hurdles and seems none the worse for wear. If you only see the vids of him in the last year you don't see his great personality and heart. Same with Momotaro. This video helped round out the family Momotaro. Now that he is a rowdy teen, Gentaro is still sweet, loves his parents (I saw a recent vid of him playing with his dad), adores his baby brother Kintaro, is very smart, a well rounded gorilla kid. I wonder if he still dances. We need to see more Gentaro especially since he is starting on his young silverback training. AND KUDOS to the keepers at KyotoCity Zoo. The care, love, and time they put into Gentaro, and later Kintaro, to keep them alive and healthy as newborns to now is awesome. The gorillas and staff are blessings for each other. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Omg Genki sliding under Momotaro. So funny 😂 She’s a lady that goes after what she wants lol Thankfully she did because now we have Gentaro, Kintaro, and a more mentally mature Momotaro. ❤️

I can’t imagine having your baby taken away from you with no explanation for months and months. I think that I would have died from grief. I know that the intention was well meant, but poor Genki must have suffered terribly. All well that ends well I guess.

Such a beautiful story of our precious Gentaro. I enjoyed getting to see his unique personality and to know he’s always had such a lovable, affectionate and exuberant little personality. Love me some Gentaro. ❤️❤️

I absolutely loved this video! 😍. Genki looking so cute trying to show Momotaro how "the business" is done. I laughed so hard. He was like, "Um Huh? What is happening right now? Oh ok!." 🤣 Watching Gentaro growing in this video, and thinking about the day he will be a matured silverback (with those same innocent eyes and face). I can't wait!! 😍
