A Hungry Silverback Gorilla Gets Mad | Kyoto Zoo

#Gorilla #Momotaro #Silverback
Time for dinner indoors.
The gorillas move to their respective rooms to eat so that they don't have to fight for food.
Gentaro moved to his room first, followed by Genki and Kintaro. The silverback Momotaro, who was left behind, was frustrated because he couldn't get his dinner.
I felt a little sorry for Momotaro.
this video was taken at kyoto city zoo in Jan 2022.

    They always eat in their own room unless they eat outside. I think they are usually in that room that Momotaro went in though. Usually Momotaro eats in that room with the scale and the computer game. That’s why he was waiting for that door to open. I think something happened that messed things up but Momo was more patient than I thought he would be.

    I certainly agree with you. There was this time earlier about a year ago where the pandemic kept visitors from coming. I think they were then having difficulty financially feeding the animals. So I certainly agree that we feel with them which is of course good because it reminds us that we are not the only animal in this world and that we have some obligations if we can find them. I guess that also applies to humans who are in camps and running for their lives. However I agree I would like to be able to give some money if that's something that we could do. I had thought about just making arrangements with the grocer and seeing if we can have a care package sent over on a regular basis. However I'm in the states so I don't know how we could do that. Thank you for caring also it makes me feel part of the group.

Papa Momotaro is the largest, his need is simply because his body structure requires more, next is Mama Genki, she, too, eats to satisfy her own need for nutrition, and on down the line.

    No they do not use violence. They truly care for the animals as much as we more than we do. They do their best with how many people they have and what they have to offer and I'm sure that it bothers them when they can't do everything they want to. Thank you for mentioning being the patron of the zoo. I had not thought to look into that. ❤️❤️❤️

    His mom won't be protective of giving him food if he's hungry more than her. Food is pretty much a lot of terrain. However she does still nurse and will be stopping that shortly if she becomes pregnant. I think he wanted to find the nuts because he went over to the machine that he plays and gets nuts and special little things. I think he and ginky both look in the special spots where food is put when there's time like up on the shelves you'll see carrots and broccoli and quite a few little special things at times. So I don't think he was upset at hungry yet cuz he really hadn't eaten the major portion of food. They put the dessert in the main course all in the same room and we know what kids do.

    There are some good videos of the gorillas in the wild currently and they're pretty much the same where the women with children are protecting them from the males because the males assert their dominance and that's the way it should be. But zoos have to feed them within some convenience to themselves in order to get the jobs done.

    I think Kintaro's relationship with Genki is much different since she has been able to nurse him and bond in that way. Genki wasn't able to nurse Gentaro, so I think their wasn't that closeness between them unfortunately. That is just my opinion though...

  • @yvonnejones9940

    @yvonnejones9940

    If you look at older videos, Gentaro doesn't seem as clingy. I guess because he had the added support of his foster human parents. But he, Genki, and Momo appeared very bonded and close in that there was/is a great of play and cuddling.. As a baby Gentaro was loved on, cuddled, played with, and adored by his gorilla and human family. Spoiled rotten then and now !😄😄😄😄 He was an only child for 7 years! I think Genki encouraged Kintaro 's clinginess because he too almost died as a newborn. He was taken from her too but only for a few weeks. She picked him up and never put him down. Again Spoiled Rotten! Gorillas have long childhoods, so Kintaro as the baby would take up more time from the rest of the family. But I think Genki's and Momo's affection and care for their sons is equal and intense.
