2頭がやり合う前のモモタロウの異変に全員が緊張してますね。モモタロウが必死に自分の闘争本能を抑えているように見えました。 ゲンタロウが初めてモモタロウに仕掛けに行ったことはショックですが、致し方ないこと…。 そろそろ限界が近づいてることを思い知らされました。 モモタロウにもかなりのストレスがかかっているはず。 群れの平和を祈るばかりです。

素敵な動画本当にありがとうございます！余計なBGMが無いのが特に最高です！ 日本の動物園で生まれてしまった宿命もありますが、四人共にそれぞれ本当に素敵なゴリラ、加えてスタッフ、お客さん達と、世界の視聴者達ですね。

ゲンタロウが挑発したとかゲンタロウから仕掛けた等 ゲンタロウが悪いというコメントが多々あって悲しい😢 小さな時から理不尽に怒られることが多くて いつも不敏に思ってました。 シルバーバックになるには体はまだまだ小さく 犬歯もないし精神的にも幼いこんな状態で群れを離れても うまくいくとは思えない。 今、非常に難しい時期で動物園側も悩んでると思います。 ゲンタロウには幸せになってほしい

弟、キンタロウの成長に目を見張りました。怖がりながらも、一生懸命ケンカの仲裁に入って行って、最後はお母さんに止められたけど、お父さんを追いかけて行こうとしてましたね。４歳の小さなキンタロウ、頑張ったね。偉いぞ‼️

That seems to be a common dynamic in gorilla troops -- the silverback will discipline someone in the group but then the entire group will turn on the silverback and chase him off. Many times it's the smallest gorilla in the family leading the charge and the results often look comical to me. I've often wondered why they act this way and the only thing I can think of is that it's the troop's way of keeping the silverback in check so he doesn't become too tyrannical. I guess the bigger question may be why the silverback runs off.

@Hqhq-01 This is just my take. I believe the Silverback daddy runs off because in reality he cares about them and doesn't want to hurt anyone in the family, so he humors them and runs off. That is always my belief anyway whether it's correct or not I don't know😁

I love and respect Genki especially as a mom! I think she made sure Gentaro didn’t go inside and distracted him so Momo couldn’t get him in a smaller room to attack! Even as nervous as she is she stayed with Gentaro ❤! I might be wrong 😂😊 but a mother will try to protect her child

@@vins6036 Hey Vin, and Greg! I’m a primatologist with 35+ yrs exp. I’m retired now but guess what was my area … SILVERBACK GORILLAS! BBT is absolutely right! You are wrong. Yes they have human attributes, because these primates in captivity rely on humans. Food, meds, education, and communication. But do not mistake that for friendly, they ARE animals. Early in my yrs (really not that old) I thought so too, nope. I will not share the injuries. There is something wrong wired with this particular female. No other female that I’ve observed in my yrs has behavior traits like this one. I personally with my exp thinks there’s been in-breeding somewhere in her immediate family. Yes I know who her parents were, and where they came from very well actually. All the same this female has VERY serious untreated mental issues. She has NOT tended to the needs of the gorilla offspring (Gentaro/Kintaro) as a normal female silverback would. If you are versed in these videos then you already know this. These forums are for entertainment and knowledge, entertainment is provided. Knowledge is not. I personally spoke to the gentleman who makes these videos, I thanked him for the videos first and foremost, but I also told him to stop labeling the videos with misinformation. Words such as “estrus in males” and “health checks” he relayed to me that’s what the keepers told him. I talked with them as well as the zoo director (the one who raised Gentaro) Estrus is in females only. Health checks are made by veterinarians and primatologists not the keepers. During the fight, YES, the family gathers to stop the fight. That’s it! No other intentions. Genki on the other hand will make deliberate movements to avoid Gentaro because she knows he torments her. So when he is standing in front of the door, she will do everything to move him forward, what reason? Plain and simple .. FOOD. None other than that. She will throw sand at him, she will pee on him, she will throw poop at him. There is no limit of what she will do for food. Even physically biting her toddler gorilla so hard he can’t stop screaming. I’ve seen the video, so has BBT. It has since been removed over much controversy. This my friends, is NOT AT ALL the normal behavior of a female mother Silverback, gorilla. So, for future ignorant comments, and I do mean that in a literal sense, fact check everything. Look it up. There are several good sites with accurate information. I don’t have to because I’ve been around them my entire adult life. I don’t throw around my title lightly, but when I see mistakes being made, I will for the defense of this wonderful, majestic, and beautiful species.

Momo is really angry. Kintaro is scared and Genki not eating but keeping her eyes on Momo. You can see the tension. Genki is focused when necessary.

Oh wow, quite an active day for our beloved gorilla family. I think what happened is completely natural. Papa Momo does his normal patrol and as the silverback, he expects everyone to vacate when he comes around. Young blackback Gentaro obliged for awhile. In prior videos of this, you can see the frustration from Gentaro as his father comes around and he has to move but he usually just keeps his head about him. Today however, instinct and emotion took control and Gentaro acted upon his frustration and attacked Papa Momo. Papa Momo was surprised and offended and went to lay some discipline on Gentaro. In the aftermath, Papa Momo checks his back as if to say, "that little bugger actually bit me!". Gentaro checks his wounds and seems to think, "it ain't THAT bad for having a go at my old man." This will get more intense as Gentaro gains confidence and the fights will leave more damage unfortunately. Kyoto Zoo.. I know it isn't easy or simple, but please try to plan for a better situation for the near future for young Gentaro. He's coming of age and needs to start preparing for his own family to raise.

MOMO was having the longest conversation I've seen yet with Gentaro. Maybe just smack talk. But, he was telling the eldest something. Gentaro was over the intimidation and attacked his dad. Either to defend his space (tired of being run off a spot) or Finally, showing dominance. His hormones are raging. His attack did put a hurt on dad. So he did good fighting him. This is a sad thing cause Gentaro does not have enough space to get away from dad. They need larger quarters to roam.

They will never give them larger quarters to roam in that Zoo is in an inner city, traffic on all four sides. There’s nowhere bigger to put them except for in a different Zoo. But I agree with you wholeheartedly Gentaro is tired of being Momotaro‘s whipping post this will happen again.

Not to mention the little bamboo sticks that they have stuck in the ground all over the enclosure to keep Gentaro from attacking genki, but what they don’t realize is that its putting these gorillas in danger, it’s only a matter of time before the sticks harm them or worse

Man, I've been getting in the zoo about those 2 big wedged shaped things made out of planks because recently Gentaro broke off one of the cross pieces and almost got 2 long nails in his foot. He likes to toss those things around so it's going to happen again that he breaks off a piece with nails, and if he decides to run around with it swinging it at the others as he has done in the past with sticks, one of them is going to get inured. They need to get those big wood things out of there, there should never be anything held together with nails in a gorilla enclosure. And now they've added bamboo sticks???

Fascinating to see Gentaro mature. The finger sucking silverback!! Sweet but taught how to be strong from dad. Momo is not being mean...this is how nature works, people.

@@UC0TA7M2P36AYAl I saw all the twerking with Momo and the eye to eye contact between the two of them as well, plus, the constant shooing Gentaro from his spots...Gentaro is growing up, he has emotions and is starting to act of on them. It's instinct-sometimes we do things we don't like and regret later. Do they regret? who knows...all I know is I saw Gentaro grab Momo around his gut and lay his open jaw on the shoulder-so he was the aggressor, he made the physical contact. And there will be more to come as he grows older. That's my opinion.

These crazy comments about why Momo was set off are silly. He clearly defended himself against an attack on his actual back. You can't get anymore clear cut about this.

He didn't grow up with siblings or even a father to play with so he's awkward about initiating play. Yes, Momo is a bully, but so is every Silverback. That's what they do. Every black back does this. Sometimes it's against an older Silverback like Winston and Frank, and sometimes it's Silverbacks in their prime like Momo, Oumbi and Shabani. Gentaro, Lope and Kiyo are all going to get some beatings and it's gonna get worse.

It’s amazing how they know to grab the food up ,wrap it up and bend it so it can fit nice and neat in their mouths. How they pulled the leaves off and Kintaro is the best at rubbing dirt off his carrots before he eats them. What intelligence👏👏👏👏👏👏👍

Momotaro behavior is normal with this species, yes they do need more space, but unfortunately gorillas in captivity don’t have space like living on their own habitat in the wild. I understand why they are in zoos and safarees , but I feel that they would be happier in their own habitat.

Momotaro was on that BS today, he repeatedly did his excitement shake at Gentaro and kept trying to intimidate him. Gentaro got tired of it. Glad he stood up for himself. Of course Momotaro got angry and the fight was on. I think Genki sensed something was going to happen because she followed them and was watching closely. Gentaro kept moving away and Momotaro would follow. Gentaro is finally showing some dominance ❤❤❤❤

Maybe Gentaro and Kiyomisa in a bachelor group for 2-3 years until both are placed with their females. I think Momo was too young to be father, perhaps if they would have placed Momo in bachelor group before it would have taught him manners and patience.

@@aquarianlight1880 In the US placing a Silverback Momo's age with such an old female is unheard of. They put them in bachelor groups so they can work that extra aggression off on eachother. Kiyo and Gentaro would really benefit being together for at least 3 years. Then maybe move Riki and Kentaro together. Sadly Japan doesn't seem to have this stuff planned. The director of the zoo said just a few weeks ago there's no immediate plans to move Gentaro in the next couple of years which is crazy. I guess they are waiting for Gentaro to get injured and then killed like Genki's mom.

Right! Winston was overpowered by Frank, but both Momo and Shabani are in their prime. Gentaro won't have any hope of beating him which is why he needs to be moved. Shabani is a little easier on Kiyo but his time is coming too.

@@lizzyyork i agree, I think the same should have been done with Momotaro to at least rid of that food aggression. Being in a bachelor group would have taught him to ease on that. Having to fight over food with an equal in size and strength would have perhaps eased that food aggression.

I didn't know that Momo could ..um..you know take care of his needs on his own. He DOESN'T even try to mate with Genke! I can't wait until Gentaro can get out of their and start his OWN Family!!! with Annie! ❤

😂😂 Well Momo hasn’t figured out how it all works-he was raised entirely by females so he didn’t get the visual. But when he gets aroused, he shakes ( I call it his twerking! ) and I think he’s trying to suppress the physical feelings. The curious thing is Momo never gets aroused and twerks with Genki. It’s only with Kintaro. And at about 16:45 you see Kintaro getting the scent of Momo’s fluid around his genitals AND then observes and sniffs something on the ground. Momo’s just a big no no!!!

No, there is lack of space in Japanese zoos, and they're too cheap to send there gorilla's other places/zoo's that might have room AND mates for them

I'm no gorilla expert but that could be interpreted 2 ways, either Gentaro is sick of moving around to make way for dad or he attempted to surprise him with a play fight which Papa interpreted the wrong way. Either way smart keep Gentaro on one side and his dad on the other. Let them both cool down. As Gentaro continues to grow from black back to silver back, I think it's safe to say there are more fights coming between these 2.

Yes. I think those hip motions that he was doing as he was confronting Gentaro were him releasing a scent. I believe male silverbacks do that sometimes before conflicts.

Momo was not shaking at Gentaro. He was having one of his estrus episodes!! Gentaro Needs his own place. He's getting older and doesn't like being bullied. Yes I know he picks with his father and mother. And yes there are times he needs too be put in his place, and realize who's in charge. I didn't say he was bullying him at this moment. I said he has bullied him many times before this incident, while Gentaro was just minding his own business. BTW Who said anything about Genki. I never said she deserves what Gentaro was doing to her at the end of the video?! Nothing but love and respect from the Chi! (Chicago IL) everyone can have their own opinion 😊

Gentaro needs to be moved now to old to be with silver-back.

Maybe it’s time for the eldest son to fly the coop before it gets seriously out of hand. The enclosure isn’t the same as if they were free in the forests.

I hope these gorillas don't have to hear all this noise from the crowds.

At 29:44 or very close Gentaro said,, Dad I have had enough of your bullying me you been bullying me for over 3/4 weeks now I have had it with you. If I’m setting on the blue blanket you come out of know where and take it okay no big thing. But today I say STOP you have bullied me all day 😤. Momotaro I love you so much like I keep saying I try to understand that you did not have a dad (silverback) growing up just mom then you was put in with Genki. Does anyone know if this means that Momotaro is seeing Gentaro as a silverback ? Thank you for your time and help.

I comment to express my opinions, not to tell someone else they are incorrect.If you want to do that please become a teacher to grade papers.the majority of us faithful commenters are here because we adore and are fascinated by gorillas and we like to see their daily life.who am I to tell the zoo what to do with their animals? They are the experts.i am so emotionally connected to this family...I chose not to watch the fight.

I feel bad for the Momotaro family, but hopefully it will pass. If it doesn't, I'm afraid that the conservation board is going to have to find a zoo...and a female gorilla to shelter Gentaro. Momotaro could have killed him, silverbacks are so strong. It happened in the past, a fight can go very wrong. I hope that they'll go on with a peaceful cohabitation.

I knew it would be a matter of time before Big Momo and Gentaro would come to blows 😮 the same when Shabani freaks out at Ky EVERYONE gangs up on him… and chases him away . You know I never seen Hoako freak out yet

You must be new to watching them all. Haoko was the worst at one point. Shabani is by far the coolest silverback. I've only ever seen him look at kiyomasa funny and Kiyomasa was sulking for for 2 weeks Yes shabani has charged nina once though only because she attacked Annie when Annie was a baby

This is upsetting as I love this family troop so very much but know nature dictates they cannot stay together forever and Gentaros time to move on is coming. A small part of me is proud of Gentaro for this. I always felt he was very wary of his father and couldn’t imagine him challenging Momotaro and Gentaro was aggressor here (whatever subtle aggressions momo might have displayed leading up to the challenge moment). Gentaro is being very brave in light of Momo’s size versus his own. It’s the first time however I’ve said to myself “Gentaro can be a silverback now”. I’ve always seen him as immature and youthful. A child. A teenager lately. Our sweet little genius gorilla is growing up and showing his mettle to dear old Dad. My heart breaks in some ways but this is the way of nature for the young to separate from their families and move on. Gentaro is starting to show indicators that time is coming closer. 🦍♥️

11:43, 14:49 🤔 Momotaro seems to be keeping an eye on Gentaro today. I detect some underlying tension. 16:22 Yes there it is. One huge problem that Gentaro does is stare his dad directly in his eyes. Momotaro does not like this at all, and sees this as a challenge. 16:45 Momotaro shakes his body. This clearly is an intimidating posture to establish authority. 17:04 Gentaro continues to stare in dad's eyes without relenting. Oh dear 😑. 17:41 These slow and deliberate movements on Momo's part are a demonstration of power, yet 17:22 Gentaro continues to stare. 18:36 Momo exhales, and is clearly annoyed mildly scolding Kintaro. 22:00 Momo lightens up his mood and attempts to play with Kintaro 👍. 23:33, 23:51 Genki hoots and lightly nips: Now you can sit here with me Kintaro, but you're getting too big to nurse. 29:45 And there it is. Major testosterone release. That was a huge fight, and we can see the power Gentaro has, as he uses his body to bite, and push his dad who sort of lost his footing. That bite hurt Momotaro physically, as well as his pride. One huge silverback, and another in the making, and the enclosure is way too small for that scenario. I said this before, and predict Gentaro will have to leave a lot sooner before father or son gets hurt. At this rate Momotaro is not going to tolerate Gentaro much longer unfortunately.

Good heavens! That was a rather significantly big fight. Gentaro staring in dad's eyes provoked Momo to anger, but this is normal teen behavior for a teenage male gorilla. Momo does his job, and responds to establish authority and order. But I agree with you. If the fights continue to this degree, I hope neither one of them gets hurt. Gentaro will have to leave soon 😒.

I wouldn't say encroaching on Gentaro's space, but I did say "establishing authority" is what Momotaro does to Gentaro when he makes him move This is a power play of the silverback. And...um Gentaro was clearly staring into Momotaro's eyes, and he does this quite often provoking his father, and is what started the whole scenario to begin with. Any silverback is going to respond to this negatively. This is why even though they're father and son cannot be in the same enclosure much longer, and must separate.

It's the silverbacks job to be in charge, end of. Take a look at Haoko when he was first introduced to his females. He dominated them until they submitted to him. Silverback rule number one, the silverback rules.

Don't know anything about gorilla dynamics but I agree with you👏. Also, why more often than not, does each fight scene end with Gentaro chasing Momo around the block?🤨

Crazy they’re so diff than the shabani group. NVR seen shabani get angry like momotoro. 👍👍👍

Bad situation. Everybody is upset. Genki still the glue of this family. I hope this doesn't happen too often. I've seen other gorilla families fight much more. 😘

Wow this is next level. Gentaro cannot help his instincts as he get's older, neither can his dad. His father is very much the alpha but alas Gentaro looks like he want's to try his luck, why oh why. Sooner or later he will submit hopefully without broken bones...buggar messing with Momotaro. Genki and Kintaro do try there best to stop Momotaro from seriously injuring their young gorilla. Gentaro is such a cutie.

Great video. Unfortunately their is only one Silverback in a troop. It’s not a Democracy. Not that living in the wild is “safer”, but being in captivity forces these violent interactions. In the wild, the young male probably would have left already after frequent but less violent displays by the silverback of their absolute dominance in the troop.

Momo was fighting with his son Gentero. Genki stepped in to stop it.

As usual Gentaro did not do anything to deserve getting attacked. I wish he would fight back,, I'm glad Genki ran to his defense.

All Gentaro did wrong was not move out of the way, and gets attacked for it. You do get the feeling watching this Momo feels the need to continue to occasionally intimidate Gentaro no matter what. Scolding him for issues that exist only in Momo's mind. Such as picking up food that Momo marked mentally as his and assumes the other gorillas somehow know this. Scolding him when he feels Gentaro is playing with Kintaro too hard even though Gentaro pretty much always plays with him the 'right way'. Scolding him sometimes for absolutely nothing. Then of course not scolding him when he bullies Genki. Sends confusing messages to Gentaro I am sure. I am sure momo cares for Gentaro, however he isn't above instinct as a gorila and we see that it takes a lot of willpower for the silverback to NOT bully their son when they are almost silverback's themselves. It creates a 'natural' rift that causes the son to spend more and more time away from family, and then at some point leave the family all together when those bonds are weak enough. I am no behavioral scientist but I feel the rift is an instinctual thing. You need to have a great relationship with the son, like Shabani does with Kiyo, for the rift to not form, and even then that need is still present in Shabani it seems.

I slowed it down..seems Gentaro was showing signs of opening his mouth as Momo crossed the log, then attacked momo's shoulder...just my observation-,but the point is, as many have already said, these issues will continue to escalate as Gentaro grows stronger-instinct cannot be stopped. (really, no matter WHO is at fault.)

Wow!!! Never saw that coming!!! I wonder do the Silverback gorilla's ever injure their own family members? As I was watching this video I bet Momo could have badly injured Gentaro.

Seems like they sensed that Dad was grouchy this day. Gentaro and Mama respected his space🤨. Cute Kintaro felt the tension and tried to play with Dad🥰. When it blew up Mom stepped in and put everyone on "timeout". 🖐😠

You don't see this as much with other troops. Kiyomasa and Shabani rarely get into fights and clearly play with and love each other. Gentaro is too aggressive for his own good - in fact, this troop has never seemed that close to me.

I hope the Momotaro Fam gets a bigger enclosure or Momo and Gentaro need to be separated no matter the circumstances in this video that started the altercation. The obvious answer is Kyoto Zoo needs to change this family dynamic. I understand the issues eg space elsewhere. However, the fact remains l fear that going forward, more of the same occurances will happen to the detriment of the Momo Family. I hope Kyoto Zoo at least somehow move Gentaro to start his own family. The enclosure is too small.

Me being a black man, it's just something about these silver backs that makes it hard for me to stop watching them. I can honestly watch them all day..Maybe it's the respect they show each other or just the way they move whatever it is you can clearly see, they aren't to be messed with.

I don't think it's a black thing. I'm white and I have the same fascination watching them. I'm especially in awe when Momo climbs up and then hangs from the ceiling, he's pretty magnificent when he's up there.

@@User14816 none of the zoos in Japan have a bachelors group that is the problem and also it has become limited about mating them up due to being related. It has become a big problem that has to be figured out fast and should have been prepared for this a long time ago
