The Sound of AirBuddy at Close Proximity

This video demonstrates the sound of AirBuddy at close proximity. The compressor makes gentle buzzing sound that can hardly be heard below some 5-7m of depth. What distance can AirBuddy be heard from on the surface mostly depends on the level of background noise, such as wind or splashing of waves. Do not listen to the absolute volume as this depends on how loud you play the video, but rather compare the compressor sound with other noises, such as the splashing of water against the camera lens or the cracking sound of bubbles released by the diver.

is not very noisy but still... I wouldn't call it quiet either, would be nice to have some noise insulation, can be modified to be put in another box or has to stay in the water?

GoPro picks-up the noise louder/ different than it is. The noise is not a concern for the users, bathers or marine life. You can find discussions on the AirBuddy Divers groups on Facebook about this if you want to hear from the AirBuddy owners.

In a official video from Air Buddy you can see that the air compressor is located at the bottom of Air Buddy, under water... I think it would be a greater idea to put it at the upper side, over the floating line.

Hi Juan, thanks for the idea. What would be the benefit of doing so?

@@DivingEasier Hi! being on top with a good sound insulator below, there would be less noise from the compressor underwater... lot of people likes the silence under water when snorkeling. I have a professional diving degree and the only thing I don´t like of diving is the noise of the regulator when breathing compared with the silence when snorkeling, so I think that it would be a good idea to reduce every noise all the possible. By the way, I'm interested in AirBuddy, but I have to think well if I'll use it enough to make it worth it. Regards!

@@Linea-64EfectosDigitales-xf7kv if you need a complete silence, I am afraid a rebreather or free diving are the only options. We had people worried about the noise, but once they used AirBuddy they didn’t find it to be loud or disturbing at all. Unfortunately, GoPro picks up the sound a bit louder/ different on the camera than you perceive it underwater with your ears. You can find discussions on this topic directly by the divers on the “AirBuddy Divers” Facebook group. We also explain this question in FAQ 2-14 on our website: www.airbuddy.com/support-about-airbuddy/ I hope this helps.

Does it run constantly or get caught up? And shut off at all?

  • @DivingEasier

Hi, AirBuddy runs constantly for safety reasons: 1) to eliminate frequent compressor start-ups under pressure which creates high-current peaks which increase risk of failure for motors and electronics, 2) to get a reasonable discharge curve and estimate battery time, 3) to provide maximum performance.

@@DivingEasier yes, I agree not a fan of that setup that has a battery in the hookah reg at all..If for some reason a motor quits when you are 15 foot down you want a setup that allows you at least one more breath so you can safely ascend...

@@DivingEasier pretty much for many years hookah setups use scuba type regulator which are very reliable...A battery operated one just seems nuts... you say 16 liter air...where is it,unit looks to small...thanks

@@roadstar499 the float is also an air reservoir (to balance the air, to silence the air and most importantly a source of emergency air). Please have a look at www.airbuddy.com/features/. The second slider describes the float.
