DIVE WITHOUT A TANK
AirBuddy is a small, portable surface supplied dive gear (hookah) for recreational, self-guided shallow water diving. AirBuddy provides a lightweight, compact and hassle-free alternative to air tanks. It runs off a rechargeable, battery-powered air compressor that provides fresh air from the surface for 55 min (+ reserve) at a max depth of up to 12 m (40 ft). Just recharge the battery and dive. No air tanks or bulky gear! AirBuddy is a popular choice for exploring reefs, hull cleaning, underwater boat maintenance, lobster diving or treasure hunting.

Beautiful vid, but too short. 😁 Heading back to Aruba with mine in a week, it's a great diving device.
Thank you! We usually try to keep the video under 30 seconds because we use them for commercials, but maybe we should do one longer video of diving in Raja Ampat. Anyway, hope you have a good time diving in Aruba. If you have any pictures/videos please share or tag us @divingeasier #divingeasier. 😉

I'm interested in if that jacket that come with it , is like a BCD?
Hi James, the harness is not inflatable. Please see FAQ 1-06 on our website which explains why you don't need a BCD with hookah dive gear and the advantages: www.airbuddy.com/support/
welcome to Indonesian Airbuddy
Thank you! You have some of the best dive locations in the world!
Hope you had many unforgettable encounters!
I had a gas powered one in the 80s called Evinrude aquanaut . LOOKS AWESOME
The only thing that puts me off buying this is the solid doughnut float - I understand the thinking behind it, but this makes it almost impossible to pack and take with me on trips, so I'll be looking elsewhere ...
Hi, the float is actually an “air reservoir" as well. It’s manufactured from solid (hollow) plastic with 16L internal volume because it stores the pressurised breathing air - for several reasons: - It balances the air (“linear” air flow from the compressor vs. your “sinusoidal” breathing pattern). - It stores emergency air, i.e. if the compressor stopped for any reason, you don’t lose the air immediately, but gradually, providing you few more breaths to either surface of switch to an egressor (“Spare Air”). - It silences the buffeting and loud air that comes out of the compressor and prevents the vibration/ noise from traveling through the hose all the way into your mouth and thus perceive the noise by bone conduction of your skull. - And of course, provides floatation to the device. Unfortunately, it’s not as compact as a foldable reservoir, but that’s a trade-off for all those features mentioned above.
@@DivingEasier as said, I do understand and whilst I do like your system, it really doesn't alter my thinking on this. Perhaps it might be an idea to develop an alternative, more portable/packable float model for this kit, but I'm sure you'll have considered this already so please don't think I'm trying to be a smart arse.
Does it run constantly or get caught up? And shut off at all?
Hi, AirBuddy runs constantly for safety reasons: 1) to eliminate frequent compressor start-ups under pressure which creates high-current peaks which increase risk of failure for motors and electronics, 2) to get a reasonable discharge curve and estimate battery time, 3) to provide maximum performance.
@@DivingEasier yes, I agree not a fan of that setup that has a battery in the hookah reg at all..If for some reason a motor quits when you are 15 foot down you want a setup that allows you at least one more breath so you can safely ascend...
@@DivingEasier pretty much for many years hookah setups use scuba type regulator which are very reliable...A battery operated one just seems nuts... you say 16 liter air...where is it,unit looks to small...thanks
@@roadstar499 the float is also an air reservoir (to balance the air, to silence the air and most importantly a source of emergency air). Please have a look at www.airbuddy.com/features/. The second slider describes the float.
Hello, Did it possible to use standard thermal paste that used for processor heatsink for replace the one from the device ?
Hi, yes you can use other heatpaste, but it should have 8 Wm/k heat transfer coefficient or better.
Olá! Sou de Florianópolis, Brasil, como faço pra obter este produto?
In a official video from Air Buddy you can see that the air compressor is located at the bottom of Air Buddy, under water... I think it would be a greater idea to put it at the upper side, over the floating line.
Hi Juan, thanks for the idea. What would be the benefit of doing so?
@@DivingEasier Hi! being on top with a good sound insulator below, there would be less noise from the compressor underwater... lot of people likes the silence under water when snorkeling. I have a professional diving degree and the only thing I don´t like of diving is the noise of the regulator when breathing compared with the silence when snorkeling, so I think that it would be a good idea to reduce every noise all the possible. By the way, I'm interested in AirBuddy, but I have to think well if I'll use it enough to make it worth it. Regards!
@@Linea-64EfectosDigitales-xf7kv if you need a complete silence, I am afraid a rebreather or free diving are the only options. We had people worried about the noise, but once they used AirBuddy they didn’t find it to be loud or disturbing at all. Unfortunately, GoPro picks up the sound a bit louder/ different on the camera than you perceive it underwater with your ears. You can find discussions on this topic directly by the divers on the “AirBuddy Divers” Facebook group. We also explain this question in FAQ 2-14 on our website: www.airbuddy.com/support-about-airbuddy/ I hope this helps.
very clever system! Congratulations, Boyz. That being said, two questions. 1) where are your air filters? an inline carbon filter would be nice. The second question relates to the clipping of the regulator to the weight belt. Generally, we want to be able to ditch the belt without dropping the regulator :) A clip on the back might be a little hard to reach in an emergency. Do you have anything on the in take pipe to prevent surface waves/water splashes from getting pulled into the compressor?
Hi, thanks for your comments. Please see the answers below: Ad1) AirBuddy uses an oil-less compressor, so it doesn’t contaminate the air like a SCUBA high-pressure compressor that is lubricated with oil and subsequently cleans the air. The air drawn from the water surface is some of the cleanest air you can find. Although not strictly needed, there are 4 stages of AirBuddy that provide filtration: 1) Water trap and compressor baffle (gravity filtration) 2) Float (gravity filtration) 3) Diver’s hose (centrifugal filtration) 4) Activated carbon felt filter inside the fitting at the end of the diver’s hose (impaction and interception filtration). Ad2) In SSBA (diving without BCD), you should only be weighted to neural buoyancy. Dropping weight-belt is a last resort. If needed, you can unclip the harness strap, undo the velcro ... or if concerned, don't use it. It just helps to hold the harness aligned to your body, especially if the harness is larger than it should. If you choose the harness size correctly, it should have a tight fit. Ad3) There is a water trap. Nevertheless, you should avoid diving in rough conditions and prevent any water reaching the flag top (or submerging it). We have a separate KZread video and FAQ on our website on this topic.

Is there any kind of air filtration?
AirBuddy uses an oil-less compressor, so it doesn’t contaminate the air like a SCUBA high-pressure compressor that is lubricated with oil and subsequently must clean the air from the toxic pollutants. The air drawn from the water surface is some of the cleanest air you can find. Additionally, there are 4 stages of AirBuddy that provide filtration: 1) Water trap and compressor baffle (gravity filtration) 2) Float (gravity filtration) 3) Diver’s hose (centrifugal filtration) 4) Activated carbon felt filter inside the fitting at the end of the diver’s hose (impaction and interception filtration)
@@DivingEasier Hi, thanks for the answer. From what you say there is no actual particle filtration. - Gravity filtration .. might work for heavy particles but not PM10 or PM2.5; - divers' hose ..."centrifugal filtration" - hope you are joking; - carbon filter .. that might trap some moisture maybe gases but not PM 10 or PM 2.5 particles. Have you done any tests with an actual particle counter? If yes, can you share the results please? Do you consider adding a proper HEPA filter in the future? PS. Does the compressor stops by itself to conserve battery when reaches a certain pressure? Thanks.
@@icesystem7 the air quality was tested against AS/NZ2299.1-1999, AS1715 and AS1716. The compressor runs constantly rather than frequent restarting which draws large currents (and puts more strain on the electronics and battery), and enables better battery level monitoring (with a continuous discharge curve). We tested the start-and-stop, but it wouldn't actually prolong the dive time by that much.
@@DivingEasier I live in Cyprus where often we have problem with dust, hence my interest in the filtration system. I didn't have time yet to study the tests methodology you mentioned but I will check them soon as I'm very interested in the product and how we can use it here and maybe the possibility of upgrading it with a proper hepa filtration. Thanks again for your detailed answer! P.S. Yes you are right about the start/stop function for the compressor, although that can be fixed with a `smart` capacitor but that might increase costs and like you said.. might not be worth it
is not very noisy but still... I wouldn't call it quiet either, would be nice to have some noise insulation, can be modified to be put in another box or has to stay in the water?
GoPro picks-up the noise louder/ different than it is. The noise is not a concern for the users, bathers or marine life. You can find discussions on the AirBuddy Divers groups on Facebook about this if you want to hear from the AirBuddy owners.

Hello, can you ship to Iraq?
Great!
One unit 30 feet, two divers on one unit....? 20 feet?
One diver 40 feet, two divers 20 feet. But also depends on individual air consumption.
I've got my AirBuddy all packed and heading to Aruba tomorrow from Maine. My third year using it and worth every penny, get yours ordered today.
Ey
Who also has the Air buddy?
An inches how much is that small medium
But I don't know what size of bets should I order
I would like to order one
Hi Jesus, you can order from our website www.airbuddy.net/shop. If you have any questions, please contact [email protected]. Thank you!
Dont promote this solar panel to Vancouver, lol, the sun isnt out quite like in Oz. Without the tank weight on your back, it looks so inviting! 36 feet deep is enough for anyone.
Yeah, that's true ... for many parts of the world. It's not a product that we envisage. We were just curious whether it's possible at all to dive using just the energy from sun. Plus I always wanted to explore the reef around this magnificent island... :-)
Nice video, good info on an alternate charging method. For an easier way to carry air hose, I run a 1" web strap with buckles through the center of most of the coil. Then run your hand through the loop it creates and then pick up the compressor, keeps it from dragging on the ground.
Thanks Dave, that sounds like a very good technique. On some occasions, when I drifted too far away and had to walk back across the island, I just put my hand through about 2/3 of the coils of the hose and grabbed AirBuddy handle with the same hand (and used my other hand to carry the fins and mask). It made the 700m walk a lot easier.
For 2000$ I don't think so

Where can one purchase an airbuddy?

Very nice. Would be good if it had variable power output to prolong dive time at shallow depths like when I'm cleaning the hull of my sailboat. .
AirBuddy can I use your system while snorkeling to conserve battery life, Thanks Cliff
Hi Cliff, AirBuddy runs for 55+10min (previously 45+10min) regardless of your depth. If you snorkel and AirBuddy runs, it wouldn't conserve the battery. If you switch AirBuddy off on the surface and use snorkel, of course you conserve the battery and "pause" the runtime.
@@DivingEasier Thank you ,next question incase I missed something , can I switch AirBuddy off while snorkeling or do I have to return to unit to switch it manually
@@cliffbud2360 the unit is switched on/off at the unit with the magnetic wristband.
