The Smart & Adaptive Way To Fight IBD | Good Health Hunting Ep. 6

Harry is a friend and former client who's taken a unique combination approach to fighting IBD. You can find Harry on instagram at / balistorylab . In this episode we cover a range of topics including Harry's current protocol, cabbage juice, training, mindset/perspective, and even a little bit of theology. I want people dealing with IBD to know that there are multiple ways to structure and adapt their approach to improving their health and lives- and I hope they find encouragement seeing how other people do exactly that.

Harry, did it really just started like that? Autoimmune diseases usually have a root cause, what do you think triggered yours? Extreme fear and guilt? Also a questions for Honnas, will you do a video of TRT for crohns disease for men? Apparently it's a long term near cure from what I read in trials, not instant cure but 3-5 years down the line CRP, bloodwork and symptoms decrease gradually throughout each year that goes by. @@team_honnas

I found the conversation here just about the best digital support group I’ve ever attended. So much of my experience has been similar (pretty healthy other than the colitis). I’ve been convinced I can outsmart this but with my latest symptoms i don’t think that’s gonna happen, maybe ever. Accepting that though is relief in away. I love this conversation and the point is not about winning, it’s about optimizing, that’s the best we can do. Also while it’s scary Harry you are clearly incredibly healthy and it’s just the end of the sewer pipe that’s broken bud. Too bad that means we have to stick to saintly diets with marginal benefit 😊

wow! just watched the video. one of the best things I've ever watched, absolutely fantastic, both of you. my journey is almost identical to harrys, but I'm just behind him. I've been having v similar feelings re brain, lifetstyle etc, but have yet to fully let them sink in, and more importantly make changes in my life to change things. but seeing harry has inspired me. we are incredibly similar in personality, drive, thought processes.... and the effects they have bought with them. really good to see such an honest, non-lecturing video from two men with perhaps different beliefs, but with so much respect & love. thank you both very much.

I was diagnosed with sub total colitis in December 2022. I was put on prednisolone 40mg reducing dose and 4x 800mg daily. It was at that point I started roughly following Kenny's diet plan. I had a colonoscopy last week, the doctor was amazed that there was no sign of active colitis anywhere in my colon! (So was I). Anyway, I'm still on the octasa daily but it's minimal medication, they actually wanted to put me on immunosuppressive medical in January due to the severity of the Ulcerative Colitis, I pushed back on that and tried to follow Kenny's diet plan. It's not magical stuff, fermented vegetables, kefir, kimchi, sauerkraut, kefir, banana and blueberry smoothies. Just generally eating healthily. Plenty of veg, very little processed foods. Filtered water etc. Anyway, whatever it is, I'll keep doing the above and hopefully I'll stay as symptom free as possible. Oh and, my colitis started of as proctitis too. I agree with the comments RE, oh you've got an incurable disease. I was diagnosed too in 2017. The stress factor was big in me too. I too feel like I'm on edge a bit but it's usually caused by other people grinding my gears. So, I know it might not look right to some people but I've learned to let things go a bit and really not care about things even if they are in my control. I'm sure my UC had a big relationship to stress, as well as not eating properly. Oh and YES, I need to read that Chimp Paradox, that was recommended to me too!

Live today so you can fight tomorrow. Medication doesn't mean you fail. You'll become more resilient. Find your best version of today, use all is available to you to be the best you can be today. UC is an ego destroyer. I found this talk so encouraging, and made me feel more calm too. Yes, others can't see this invisible disease and can't understand the unpredictability, and suffering unless they have walk it too. No sense in feeling guilty for a disease we didn't choose to deal with. This is what I'm taking from this talk. To be positive about options, to breath and be ok with failing but keep trying, there is life to be live, we just need to learn to cope and get the help we need to get back on the race :)

I absolutely think for some ppl the root cause is trauma, emotional issues and or stress. I 100% believe my root cause is stress and trauma. I know the odds of him reading my comment are slim, but he may benefit from looking into Jini Patel Thompson 's work. She insists the emotional stuff must be dealt with for true healing and says talk therapy is not enough alone but suggests somatic release therapies to release trauma trappedin the body (like craniosacral level 2 or higher or tapping. She has an excellent tapping therapy series). Jini also suggests probiotic retention enemas, I wonder if he tried those? I've found them very helpful. Dr Gabor Mate also talks about how emotional stuff can lead to chronic illness. 'When the body says no' by Mate is very interesting and so is "the body keeps score' by Kolk

I am pretty careful w what I eat but I splurge on ice cream and sweets few times a month. Overall I eat healthy- fruit, veg, chicken, fish, rare glass of wine. I don’t know if it would help but here is how I cured myself. I’ll try to be brief as possible: Stop eating wheat, grains, rice, corn, pasta, etc any type of grain based carbs. Either it contains gluten or not. Stop cosuming milk and all dairy products, cheese, yogurt etc Stop eating sugar, mayo, ketchup, all processed foods. Stop eating fried foods, popcorn. Etc Start drinking psyliium husk in the morning. Start a good probiotic supplement. What I eat - eggs, chicken, salmon, fish, moderate red meat Very well cooked, like mash, mashed potatoes (without milk witg butter), butternut squash, sweet potatoes, bell pepper, broccoli, any veggies well cooked. All veggies soups without flour or milk.

Really sorry to hear you’re having to go through this. Definitely check the following info with your doctor and get it cleared before acting on it, since I am not a doctor. In regard to working out, I think it depends on if you feel that you are able to lift safely without passing out. If you’re losing lots of blood/are anemic, that could put you at risk of passing out, falling, and hitting your head which can be deadly. So, would highly recommend not lifting if your hemoglobin levels are lower than they should be. If your hemoglobin levels are in a decent range per what your doctor says, and your doctor gives you the okay, then lifting should be fine as long as you feel up to it. I lifted during most flares when I could, and found it helped, but there were other flares that I was way to weak and my bowels were way to unpredictable to go to the gym. I never took pre workouts, not sure if they will aggravate your bowels due to the caffeine content + other stimulatory ingredients. Overall, definitely recommending erring on the side of caution, working with your doctor to get your hemoglobin in a safe range, and then exercising if you feel able & with your doctor’s approval. Hope that helps!

I’m sorry you’re having to go through all of this. I was also very anemic when I was first diagnosed, can’t remember the exact number off the top of my head. But I had to have 4 blood transfusions while I was in the hospital. The anemia started to improve pretty significantly when my gut health started improving. Same thing with my weight. I think in general the best answer is to focus on improving overall nutrition and exercise (i.e. gut microbiome focused nutrition). Of course any dietary changes should be cleared with your doctor before implementing. Your doctor may also be able to recommend some different treatment approaches that will help target the anemia quicker and give you a bit more energy sooner. I wish there were some easier tips to implement, but again from my experience I think this is the best place to start & focus your energy on. I hope you start feeling better soon!

It’s interesting because I use to think if I took medication I was a failure. But actually it was a tool that allowed me to go back into remission and get back to maintaining it via diet and lifestyle. If I had more hiccups, I’d take the meds, figure out what caused the hiccup and didn’t do it again. And it was this cycle for a little while until I knew eggs, milk, and too much fermented foods was my trigger. Now “touch wood” I stay in remission longer and fewer medication 💊 intake.
