IBD Remission | The Role of Discipline in Dietary Freedom | Good Health Hunting Ep. 1

I've been in clinical remission from a severe case of IBD for several years. In this series I'm going to show you how I balance discipline and freedom via the 80-20 rule and the new things I'm doing nutritionally that haven't made it on to my channel yet. Each episode will be focused on something slightly different.

Hey Kenny, I just wanted to say thank you. I came across your videos almost 2 years ago because I couldn’t afford the medicine for my ulcerative colitis. I want to be clear about something, YOU saved my life! I was at a very very low point in my life. I couldn’t afford any medicine and I couldn’t eat any food. I was losing so much blood! My doctor didn’t care about my health. He instead cared about how much money he could make. When I had no other place to go I found your videos and started doing everything you talked about. In less than a month I had not only fixed my gut, but I even started to put weight back on. Please keep doing what your doing. You’ve saved my life and I know you will save others too. God bless you and stay healthy!

Having my daily smoothie while watching lol (I play around with the ingredients and mix in some lower carb days but today I'm doing: goat kefir, blueberries, avocado, banana, coconut oil, flax seed oil, collagen, psyllium husk, 1 pasture raised egg yolk, cinnamon). Eating just smoothies, meat, and fermented vegetables (along with other lifestyle additions) got me into drug free remission after 10 years of unresolved UC symptoms

Thanks for another great video Kenny. You are an inspiration to all people with IBD who are generally being told by doctors that their is no cure, and we need to expect to be taking meds to control it for the rest of our lives. 'But, what about when the meds aren't working and I'm going downhill, Doc?' ... I was going backwards late last year and into this year. After seeing my doc in Jan '21 and getting more bad news, I started implementing your advice. I should have got on board much earlier! I completly turned my ulcerative colitis story around in about 2 months by implementing your 4 pillar program and have reached and maintained normal inflammation levels ever since! I can now eat pretty normally (though more healthily) and still make a kefir smoothie every second morning. Maintaining good health is much easier than healing when you're really sick. But to anyone out there who is sick with IBD, there is hope! Keep up the great work, Kenny!

I read a book called the Influencer, about how to enable behavior change - and you are doing a good job. I really appreciate all the detail you include (showing the cabinet where you keep your shake stuff) that kind of thing is so helpful. I was diagnosed with UC over 40 years ago. That is right. I am 75 years old and have suffered on and off with bowel issues all of these years. Medication of all kinds, diets and supplements of all kinds, macrobiotic diet, you name it. The amount of time and money I have spent on this is astronomical. For the most part, my gut controls my life. I do have a relatively mild form and only the lower bowel is involved so have never been hospitalized and I am currently on no medication. I really feel that you have got something here with the kefir, fermented vegetables, ointermittent fasting and exercise. I also sent away for the micro biome test kit. Thank you, Kenny for sharing your story. When I saw you drinking the cabbage juice, I knew you were serious about your healing journey. God Bless you. It is a life long journey. Are you only drinking filtered water (not Brita) and trying to eat as organic as possible? I notice a big difference with that. Those pesticides kill your gut flora. Also, I can't do the dairy...it really messes me up. You might try going on an elimination diet for a while...and only eat one small meal a day until things calm down.

@@blagmak You don't count calories on intermittent fasting. Just eat a medium to large size healthy meal once a day and fast on water the rest of the day (or even a cup of broth if you need it) and you will lose weight. If you eat processed foods though a lot no guarantees. For me a health meal is either a giant salad with meat and or eggs or fish on it and veggies on it and homemade olive oil/vinegar/garlic/spices dressing and even some croutons or a big rice bowl with veggies and a decent sized chunk of meat or fish. I do not do "low fat" and I focus on only olive oil and coconut oil and animal fats for my oils... You can do butter, too but I am allergic to dairy so cannot.

Hey Kenny, you are looking like one of the Buff Dudes in the gym montage! The beard is cool. Also that steak looked pretty awesome, great fat. Coming from a guy who (only) ate 3 of those a day for some months, I recommend putting it in your pan cold, without oil, and heating it up on a low heat so that the fat melts and that cooks it. Leave it until you've got a perfect crust and flip for a short time. That way you avoid tainting the flavour, using processed oils. Most advice for cooking steak, where they sear on a high heat, seems to be for lean cuts, which I hate! Anyway thanks for another motivating video.

Thanks for the comment! And great question. I want to show my audience what the cabbage juicing process looks like and how it can be modified. As for why I am still mulling around adding it into my weekly routine (I haven’t done so as of yet) is simply as an exercise of discipline to do nutritional things that are good for my gut microbiome and intestinal health. It’s easy for me to get lazy, and I want to make sure I’m continuing to stay disciplined. The way I’m looking at it, it’s similar to continuing to exercise/lift weights even though you’re already in good shape. I want to continue getting stronger and continue to exercise. Same thing with my intestinal health. I want to continue making it a priority to constantly be improving and taking care of my intestinal health.

Thanks for leaving a comment! Did you read if it was fresh tomato juice or if it was the whole tomato that can be irritating to someone who has active inflammation within the intestines? It didn't bother me at all personally, but I don't think I'd be a good person to judge whether or not it might be bothersome for others since my gut lining has already healed. In Dr. Cheney's study he had some of his patients add tomato juice to the cabbage juice to make it more palatable and they still saw rapid improvement in ulcer healing. I can definitely see raw whole tomatoes being bothersome to someone with active inflammation (I know tomatoes bothered me when I ate them while sick), but I think a little bit of tomato juice that has been separated from the tomato fiber and seeds might not be as big of an issue?

I have an advice and a request: Advice: Regarding the oats, I used to eat a lot (like 200-250 gr per day when I was healthy and doing powerlifting competitions) after I got CU I realized that it's really hard for my body to digest it if I don't grind them. Therefore I started buying poridge made from oats. It is amazing. I buy the version which was made for babies (ab 5.Monat). Try it with hot water, add some cinnamon+fruits/flavor and I believe you'll love it. Request: Can you explain how to follow the cabbage juice protocol with more details? I want to start with approx. 0,5L - 1 L but I had a very bad experience with it when I drank 1 L in 15 min (I did it a few times and each time I had really hard stomach pain, couldn't eat the rest of the day). I think we all need a full guide regarding that: how to drink, can we drink in 250ml portions throughout the day which will lead to 1L in 24 hours etc. Thanks.

Thank you for the tip! I am currently working on a few videos and the cabbage juice routine will be one of them. The routine I followed for 30 days called for drinking 8 oz (or 237 mL) four times per day, so that it eventually added up between 950 mL and 1 full Liter at the end of the day. Drinking 1 full Liter in 15 mins sounds like it would not be fun and could definitely upset the stomach

Definitely not a doctor, so don't take this as medical advice. That being said, in my personal opinion I think the answer to your question is not necessarily. Most of these foods don't contain gluten, and unless there's a specific condition like SIBO or maybe candida that get aggravated by specific carbs, I think the general carbs in Biome Optima should be fine.

I'm not a doctor, so please don't take this as medical advice. I strongly encourage you to consult your doctor before acting on any information so that you don't accidentally miss anything important. That being said, I personally prefer milk kefir, but I'm a fan of water kefir as well. I'm not sure how milk kefir or even water kefir will affect you since your large intestine has been removed. So would definitely encourage you to consult with your doctor once again. If I'm not mistaken, I think milk kefir has a higher probiotic content, but water kefir may be a little gentler on the system if the colon has been removed. I'm not entirely sure, so I think it's a very good idea to double check with your doctor. Wishing you the best!

For ulcerative colitis the way you did works well. But for Crohn’s need to consider in a different way.. kefir, cabbage, smoothies everything is good but at the same time amount of food and time duration between the food really matters.. need to give rest and time for the gut to repair with mucosal lining.. if we increase the smoothies will take more time to heal.. even when you have smoothies it’s a large container… Chron’s people can’t afford it.. in your journey only this I can’t accept… it’s my experience… if I reduce the amount of food I feel better…

COLITIS: This inflamed intestinal condition is medically diagnosed far too often among people with intestinal problems. Most often, I have found that people who are diagnosed with colitis have a poor intestinal environment and ineffective intestinal fluids. Colitis is caused by cooked food byproducts and chemicals, including household cleansers that contacted food, absorbed through skin or inhaled. Early symptoms: abdominal cramps or pain, and frequent diarrhea. Progressed symptom: rectal bleeding. Eating raw fresh grapefruit juice, raw tomatoes or raw fresh tomato puree, and small amounts of no-salt-added raw cheese or cooked pasta with a raw fresh tomato sauce made with raw tomatoes and unsalted raw butter and/or stone-pressed olive oil neutralizes volatile substances in intestinal walls and improves intestinal environment. As intestinal discomfort subsides, larger meals may be eaten. Pasteurized milk and its products of any kind can cause mild to severe intestinal discomfort. Drinking raw plain kefir, when available, or soured raw milk helps restore intestinal flora. (Drinking raw milk that is not soured or predigested by kefir bacillus sometimes causes a problem with colitis.) See the book The Recipe For Living Without Disease for the recipe for making natural raw kefir from raw milk. Eating the fresh raw gel from aloe vera plants is very soothing to intestines. When volatile and ineffective fluid conditions have been corrected, colitis subsides. Then eating a smoothie made with eggs and unripe pineapple once daily helps to cleanse other toxins from intestines. If the combination of pineapple and eggs continually causes flatulence, eating them separately usually resolves the problem.
