My GP said to avoid all spices because my liver enzymes were high indicating liver damage. I totally changed my diet, ate lots of tumeric and black pepper, garlic and ginger and within 4 weeks I had greatly reversed my liver damage. Drs need to be more aware of the benefits that certain foods can give us and how they can help to reverse some health issues.

I'm reading the ingredients on my bottle of Spice Supreme brand curry, which I sprinkle liberally on virtually everything I eat. It contains: turmeric, coriander, fenugreek, chilies, cumin, cloves, black pepper, onion, and garlic. It's a one-stop shop.

I really love this video and all the advice on spices and also Dr. Gundry's books. When I first found his book about 8 years ago I wasn't ready for what he was saying because it was dramatically different than all the other health books I had. I few years later I found his books again and was ready for them and I've been following his 'The Longevity Paradox Diet book for 5 years now and I feel great and am aging very gracefully and am in better health than almost all my friends and family except the ones half my age. I'm a senior and feel great everyday all day long and am still slim like i was at 19 years old. The fat or obese people that I know tell me that I'm too skinny, however they are the one with the weight and medical problems and on prescription drugs because they neglected their health and neglected to educate themselves on health and left that up to their doctor to take care of with a prescription drug that only reduces symptoms and does nothing to fix the problem and the drug has side effects. Ignorance of real healthy foods, spices and supplements contributes to the poor health of a high percent of people.

Welcome to Indian cuisines! Turmeric and so many other spices have been used in Indian cuisines since thousands of years. In fact historically India used to be the hub for imports by all countries for spices. 'Garam masala' an integral part of Indian cuisines itself contains around 8 spices. Turmeric milk is also used in India since thousands of years.

@@deporteezdestiny3751 Make what? Garam Masala or Turmeric Milk? Garam Masala would be difficult for you to make at home as it has many ingredients, but it is readily available these days in major stores or Amazon or you can definitely find it in Indian stores. For Turmeric Milk you can find a lot of videos on KZread, it has become quite famous now. All you have to do is take a glass of milk and add a spoon of turmeric powder and a pinch of black pepper and boil everything for a couple of minutes. You can first start with a teaspoon of turmeric and gradually increase to table spoon. If you want you can add some honey for taste, if you like it that way. But do not add honey in very hot milk, add it when it has cooled down a bit. That is it, drink it daily before going to sleep. It is really helpful in hundreds of things, better sleep, anxiety, depression, healing of wounds, pain, immunity, health of cardio vascular system etc etc

I have heard that pepper does relax / open the gut junctions to improve absorption, but by doing this, the open gut junctions allow anything you have eaten to enter the blood stream easily too. Also, cacao & cocoa are super high in oxalates. To help alleviate the absorption of the oxalates just eat s high calcium containing food, such as cheese or full fat yogurt along with. The oxalates will bind with the calcium and pass through the intestines.

Tumeric, black pepper and cumin, is a staple to most of my cooking, one also has to take into consideration, that spices can also either over heat the body, or cool the body which is also a major factor in keeping a balance in the body according to the ancient traditional Indian medical system Ayurveda.

Ayurveda promotes some sound practices yet everyone beware of buying "formulas" from unscrupulous sources. People are dying from heavy metal poisoning because some Ayurvedic "vaidyas" still think some toxic substances can be good for some people (despite common knowledge and scientific peer reviewed data). Pure spices that are well sourced and mixed into formulas are fine, even beneficial. I have made my own (trained in Ayurvedic college and also have other educational background from community colleges and a degree from a reputable California university). People need to know that some methods and mistaken notions leftover from the ancient Ayurvedic system need to be discarded and that there are practitioners who can harm you because they rigidly adhere to traditions which have been proven misguided.

In none of my hundreds of relatives have I seen anyone suffering from Alzheimer or Dementia, personally. And I have always wondered why do I hear so many such cases in western countries. Everyone dies here also ultimately but usually with a very sound brain. My grand mother died at the age of 88 and she had 100 times better memory than me. Probably her secret was use of Ghee and spices throughout her life. Indian cuisines no doubt are filled with different spices. In every Indian cuisine there are atleast around 10 spices. In fact Garam masala which is used in almost all Indian cuisines itself contain around 8 spices. It is being done like this since thousands of years, because as mentioned in Indian ancient medical science of Ayurveda our ancestors were aware of its benefits. India has always been known as the land of spices, a few centuries ago spices was India's largest export.

@@ddempsey9642 yes my allergist gave me a very long list of foods to be avoided because of my allergy to yeast. A lot of my favourite foods It doesn’t suck to be me as I enjoy cooking and have enough choices that I don’t miss them . Much. But so much better than having symptoms that makes you think two things am I going to die…am I going to live and both options are …I lack the ability to describe those times . So here is a list no berries such as blueberries she did say I could have frozen strawberries though hurrah, no black tea, no deli meat, no sauerkraut no sauerbraten, no dried fruits, no sausages,no wine, no yogurt, no commercial fruit juices because of the way things like tomato juice are prepared the likelihood of contamination is very high. No more pickles 😭 I make Plum duff bread every year with my son and granddaughter a family tradition since my Grandmother’s elder Sister married a Cornfield whose family ran a bakery. My great aunt taught her mother and my grandmother taught my mother who in turn taught me. I remember speaking with an elderly neighbour about forty years ago when I moved near the former bakery and he reminisced about how you knew that Christmas was coming to the lower Westside because of the mouthwatering fragrance of the plum duff bread🥳 which reminds me of the smell of the Brewery something like bran muffins cooking I never did like beer so I don’t miss that stuff.but it would be nice to have things like soya sauce. Oh I avoid eating leftovers also. I remember talking to the dietitian and asking her what I could safety eat in a restaurant my primary care doctor made the appointment because of other reasons due to high iron , liver issues etc I asked her what can I safely eat in a restaurant she told me I had two choices poor choices and damn poor choices.I am glad my mother taught me how to cook and said no recipe is written in stone. Thank you for your suggestions I just refilled my spice bottle with two tablespoons of each spice I will now add a few spices to the meal as I prepare them to see which ones improve the taste 😊 I foresee some science projects in my future 😂🍀👍🍀🖖🍀🙋🏼‍♀️❤️🌟❤️

Cacao powder is 100% pure "cocoa" and can have unpredictably very high levels of cadmium since the cacao trees take up concentrated amounts and the soil contamination is not monitored, tested, or regulated. Testing of numerous organic and regular name brand dark chocolates in 2022 and 2023 found dangerously high lead (from processing) and high cadmium (from the source) in many. Navitas makes high quality cacao powder and they have theirs tested by an independent lab (unlike many others), yet theirs is still high in cadmium. But they admit it and add warnings. Some other companies deny what has been proven to be fact by lab testing, even after they have been sued and have been legally required to adhere to certain standards. A third of a chocolate bar can easily have 300% more cadmium than the recommendation for maximum safe levels. But heavy metals are simply not safe to ingest. Getting adequate selenium and zinc can help, but still, better to avoid the problems you can avoid. One very small piece of dark chocolate per day is the most anyone should ever have. A little Navitas cacao powder may or may not be safe, but it's the lowest and tested better than the others. Lindt, Godiva, Pascha (organic and pure), Alter-eco (organic), Hershey's, Theo (organic), Trader Joes, and Green & Black (organic) all tested either very high in Cadmium, lead, or *both* for their dark chocolate products which are made with more concentrated cacao than found in "milk chocolate" products. The dark chocolate has beneficial components, but until someone cleans up the soils excess cadmium will be a risk. (That won't change and soil will remain the way it is because there is no money to be made by those with the power and resources to fix the problems, and the conglomerates who buy all the chocolate from the poor farmers don't even regulate child labor let alone soil quality.) The lead can be reduced significantly but it would cost money too, and the big companies (like Nestle) don't care because people will buy the product even if they sell it contaminated.

I eat Swiss goat cheese with my raspberries for this very reason. Dr Gundry recommends them, but they're full of oxilates! Oxilates bind with calcium on their way out, so it helps to make it readily available. I take curcumin supplements to get the concentrated benefits of tumeric without the oxilates.
