The Right of the People (1986) | Michael Ontkean Billy Dee Williams | Made-For-TV Movie

Фильм және анимация

The Right of the People is a 1986 made-for-TV crime drama movie starring Michael Ontkean, Billy Dee Williams, Jane Kaczmarek, Jamie Smith Jackson and Lisa Jakub, with special guest John Randolph. It debuted on ABC on January 13, 1986. The movie, originally intended as a feature film, was written and directed by Jeffrey Bloom. He wrote the script in outrage over the mass murder during the robbery of a Los Angeles Bob's Big Boy restaurant in 1980. At the network's request, Bloom revised his original script to increase anti-gun viewpoints in the story.
Christopher Wells is a District Attorney, in fictional St. Lawrence, Kansas. One evening, his wife, Angela, and daughter Katie, are among several people shot to death in a robbery by two ex-cons. Wells, previously opposed to handguns, then pushes for mass arming of his town's citizens for self defense, while his best friend, police officer Mike Trainor, and Angela's friend Alicia remain opposed. Nonetheless, Wells' proposal passes and the movie explores Bloom's visions of an armed public. - Wikipedia

I live in a state which doesn't require a license to carry concealed. Next state over not only does require such a license, it is very hard to get such a license. The crime rate in the state with more restrictive gun laws is far higher than in my state. In my state it is also legal to carry open, but few people do it. We all know that most of us have guns, but individually, we don't boast about it. I've seen no increase in people acting tough just because they have a gun. Just the opposite. Once you know you have the power to kill, you don't feel like a wuss if you do everything possible to avoid a confrontation. In that sense, this movie got it wrong.By the way, both my state and the next state over went for Biden. Just goes to show, it's not entirely political. One states believes in the right to defend yourself, the other does not.

On Oct 13, 2017.... federal court rejected the appeal by the man sentenced to death for killing four people and seriously injuring several others during a 1980 robbery at a Los Angeles Bob’s Big Boy.

I don't get it. I'm dumb. Should anyone over 18 with no criminal record be allowed to carry a gun .... That @ 30:00 was the issue raised.... But the DA then was questioned if he had a permit, and he says yes he has a permit. Why couldn't any other citizen also get a permit like he did?...Did he think permits were not being issued to others? Okay, I'll keep watching.

It would be good if the illegal arms trade were abolished. And make it difficult for criminal elements. Everyone should have the right to a weapon, who legitimizes himself for it.

p.s. But not at the age of 18. With at least 25 years. It's bad enough when today's idiots are allowed to drive a car at the age of 18. The law fails. Politicians fail, have always failed, this is an extremely unsympathetic species.

People just don't act like this. Almost every state will routinely issue a carry permit to any citizen with a clean record and, perhaps, some training. More than half the states now permit concealed carry with no permit at all: "Constitutional Carry," which is the premise of this silly movie. There is no "Wild West." People are responsible. There are no shoot-outs over petty arguments. In fact. there are no shoot outs. It just doesn't cause a problem. Many crimes are averted, usually without a shot being fired. I think many people outside the US get a warped view of the situation here. Most gun deaths in the US are by suicide. The US suicide rate is not the highest, and if guns weren't available, it would be the same. Most criminal use of guns is by a small segment of the population: hardened criminals, gang members, and drug dealers. Many other nations, including the UK, have much higher violent crime rates.

Vedic scriptures tell one that six aggressors may be rightfully slain at anytime. One who administers poison, one who commits arson, one who attacks with deadly weapons, one who steals wealth, one who usurps property and one who kidnaps a wife. The aggressors can be categorized as criminals and such criminals committing any of the six aggressions can be rightfully slain. So that slimey murderer had no compunction (at the end) when he put Cris in his own category and felt all high & mighty talking from prison.
