Little Ladies of the Night (1977) | David Soul Louis Gossett Clifton Davis

Фильм және анимация

Little Ladies of the Night is a 1977 American made-for-television drama film starring David Soul, Louis Gossett Jr. and Linda Purl. When it was broadcast, it became the highest-rated TV movie of all time.
The film was one of a series of TV movies about teen prostitutes which followed Taxi Driver. The other being Dawn: Portrait of a Teenage Runaway.
David Soul as Lyle York
Louis Gossett Jr. as Russ Garfield
Linda Purl as Hailey Atkins
Clifton Davis as Comfort
Carolyn Jones as Marilyn Atkins
Paul Burke as Frank Atkins
Lana Wood as Maureen
Kathleen Quinlan as Karen Brodwick
Vic Tayback as Finch
Katherine Helmond as Miss Colby
Dorothy Malone as Maggie
Bibi Osterwald as Matron
The Los Angeles Times thought it had "wavering credibility". It was the highest rated program of its night with a 36.9 rating and 53 share, seen by 26,270,000 households. ABC claimed this made it the highest-rated TV movie of all time as it surpassed the 36.5 average rating for Helter Skelter (although the second part of Helter Skelter had a higher rating of 37.5). The rating for a made-for-TV movie was only bettered by 1983's The Day After.
At the time of its broadcast, it was the twelfth-highest-rated movie to air on network television. -wikipedia

This mother is wicked. I had no idea this would be this despicable. My heart broke for Haily. This is actually so realistic. As a survivor of childhood trauma I’ve been through some very similar situations. This movie is actually ahead of it’s time. This even touches on child trafficking.

It's amazing how the home for children is depicted as a place of exploitation by the den mother. So scary and interesting the director/ writer was already aware that "homes "were not safe at all.

@@marianneewing7287 Exactly, that's a big part of why the shows and movies were so unforgettable, the actors and actresses that he was able to get to work for him. Fun fact: Carolyn Jones, who plays the jealous mother, was Aaron Spelling's ex-wife! They must have gotten along pretty well for her to work for him after the divorce. Actually it seems to me that despite how tight network censors were supposed to be back in the 1970's, I can remember a variety of social issues that started to get addressed in TV movies. Teen prostitution, child abuse, rape, and drug addiction were the subject of several movies that I can remember.

This mother is a narcissist. This is actually more common than ppl realize. Women jealous of their daughters. This is so sick and daughters suffer in silence. Hopefully as adults they will research this and understand it was never their fault.

  • @moviegirl8648
    @moviegirl86483 жыл бұрын

The mother's hatred? dislike? of her daughter is so heartbreaking. Can you imagine a mother feeling so threatened by the relationship between a father and daughter? Was she just imagining things? Why didn't she leave with her daughter, maybe the girl would be abused by the father one day or had been? Obviously they were well off so maybe the mother was used to the lifestyle that the father provided. You could almost do a whole other movie just about the mother's life. Excellent acting by Carolyn Jones. Amazing trivia fact: Ms. Jones was the first wife of Aaron Spelling, the producer of this movie. Apparently, they had to be on friendly or cordial terms for her to work for him.

Bruh. Had my mom accused me of taking her husband (my own dad for heaven's sake!!!) away from her I would've been a runaway, too. He doesn't love his daughter more than his wife because you don't draw from the same account unless you're sick! The love between man and wife and the love between parent and child isn't the same kind of love, bro. My dad and I used to have this after school date every Friday at a small town pharmacy that doubled as an ice cream shop. I can't imagine Mommy being jealous of me and hating my presence because of that! She and I would get our nails done every two weeks and have lunch some place fun. Lol That time of bonding meant the world to me. When my siblings came along, my mom and dad bonded with them the same way and we're all very close as a result. I just want to take Hayley's mom by the shoulders and shake her. Like stop being salty af and bond with your only child, lady! You're missing out on something very special, Ms. Ma'am. Just stop. Smh 😔

I didn't run away but I had a mother who was jealous of any female over the age of five getting Dad's attention. She was particularly jealous of me even though Dad treated her well with respect and love. To this day, I can't figure out how he could've married such an emotionally stunted, immature female. I've met other females like that (I wouldn't call them women because they just don't fit any category but female).

No, but girls got paid less when they worked the streets. That was the lowest-paying niche, and also the most dangerous. A teenager being pimped out behind the scenes could've cost $100 per customer back then, although more the younger she was. That work was a little safer than the streets because the pimp was more "protective" of what he considered his "high end merchandise." But it was a horrible life either way. 😢

...timely, and so highly rated, a good program: it's no wonder; one (still) hopes that cops like these exist. ...the word "de-fund" (the Police) comes to mind, together these words make no sense to me; what cops can do without a gun is better, if they are trained for it, if there is the support. ...perhaps, if they earned the right, with boots on the ground, before they can carry a gun, maybe then, as the Police, they'll be trusted (with their guns) as an example to worthily respect. Thanks for the upload(s), they are great, keep 'em coming. .

@@miapdx503 ...absolutely, a very good point. ...maybe the Police should become better educators, and health providers. ...an Officer walking a beat, needs no gun to know who lives behind the doors behind them; who is frail, who is alone, who works, who is single , a parent, or a store owner. ...and to help the public they serve, knowing them personally, no gun is needed, they may earn the respect of those they protect, being known as a person to turn to for help. Guns, i suggest are the locus; what is the example Law Enforcement makes with its own (accountability using) guns. Seasoning a Police Officer, with work without guns is good training for their skills and credibility with the public; improving inter-personal skills, a dexterity with de-escalation. Wearing a gun, in the line of duty, is earned, accordingly. Somehow the notion of good Police work has moved away from Public Relations and Intelligence. That it involves, the gathering of information, and in a manner where it is reasoned, truthful, and accurate; the little black book, is a weapon more powerful than force: knowing facts, knowing the affected concerned, knowing the problem. Law enforcement has taken this mandate to mean very little, compared to the Judiciary's need for the Police to occupy themselves with arresting Criminals, (and those charged). ...crime itself (read: crime prevention), thusly is (has been) ignored.
