What really astonishes me is that Ohio Ordnance was able to accomplish this with less parts than 240. Out of all the guns to be put into this competition, the REAPR easily seems the best choice based off what I've seen.

@@davewebster5120 Yeah with the REAPR being 26.8lbs vs 21.4lb of Sig's MG338, that is a pretty convincing reason to go with one over the other. I do think the REAPR concept could be interesting for some certain use cases like in a vehicle turret coaxial gun where you don't want to sacrifice width for a M240.

I used a 240b for several years, in Iraq, and Afghanistan. I learned over time that I could lower the gas selector which controls rate of fire, and squeeze out single rounds. It took alot of practice, but hitting a man sized target with a single round at 800 meters was definitely doable. I got my experience doing this on dismounted patrols in Afghanistan. The entire reason was dealing with multiple engagements on each patrol, and having a limited ammo capacity. You don't want to get 30k into rural mountain areas, and have your biggest gun run out of ammunition. To the person or persons who made this weapon with a single fire option, good job!

  • @SoloRenegade

In 05 in Iraq the army gave the platoon three new barrels per 240, and we pretended they were 249s for a day before turning the old ones in. I can definitely understand why they removed the gas selector.

So not only can you carry this in a backpack, but if you're on single fire, you have a sniper rifle with a pretty long range optic, a round that can reach that range, and switch to machine gun mode to lay down a wall of lead. And its lighter than a 240. Its the perfect machine.

The fact that they want to tax our rights away in some blue states gives us the best chance to open the door for going after the NFA as a tax. The REAPR seems to bridge the gap between the M240 and the M2A1 while being noticeably lighter. It's the ammunition that might bring the system weight to the point where it's an issue.

And the point is that even in 7.62, it's no LESS effective than the 240 with the added benefit of being able to shoot the more effective .338 when available. The tool-less conversion matters when you're at an isolated post and have to adapt to existing logistics

One thing I absolutely love, is the fact that grip is shaped and sized like a pistol. As someone who has shot the 240b more times than I can count - that was one of my biggest 'gripes' (If you can call it that) The grip was oversized. Even for what it was (And I have large hands). Having a handgun sized grip and trigger group, etc, just makes all the sense in the world.
