Of course you would need to run the OS from a fast form of usb. Not sure if it would work but I was bored and thought of trying it since I already have a few different sata to m.2 adapters. Sounds like a cool idea for a revisit for you tho, and costing less than $40.

    I'm not sure, but I would assume that games that tend to be more CPU bottlenecked are going to have relatively higher PCIe bandwidth and thus perform relatively worse, and that something like a GPU TECH DEMO that is tending to buffer more stuff in VRAM would do better relatively... of course, you can be bottlenecked by a single core so it's not quite that cut and dry but this is mostly for fun anyway.

    The EXP GDC is actually pretty competent. With the correct m.2 adapter you can actually get 4 lanes which really helps. You can power it with the brick power supplies from Dell optiplexes of old and you can use an adapter cable to then power your GPU's connectors from the GDC, and the whole thing powers up and down with your computer.

    I use one of these with the expresscard to make my old dell latitude more usable in 3D CAD with a 750ti. Expresscard makes it extremely easy to use, its not quite hotswappable but i never have problems when unplugging it or plugging it back in (i do have to turn the pc off though), it always recognizes the card just fine. And with a lower end gpu the bottleneck isnt as noticeable, just from experience i would say the loss is less than 10%, of course the 750ti is quite a low end card these days but its an incredible upgrade from integrated intel graphics and for something that takes 5 seconds to plug in and one reboot its great.

    Hello Dawid, Thank you so much for this explanation video! Just ask you a question: Have you experienced both MSI alpha 15 A3DDK and AMD Radeon Pro WX 3200 4GB? I have no idea how to connect between AMD Radeon pro and MSI alpha laptops. I think I should buy like PCI-E or something else. Please let me know many thanks!

    So this is genuinely a useful video. I got hold of a old 2011 Sony VPCL2 All in One. It’s great, 1080p display, i7 with 3d and a touchscreen. The big bottleneck is the graphics card: a GT 540M. There is a free mini pcie slot on the board so I wonder if this is something that could be done? Question is what graphics card to get

    I was searching for answer but i can't find it. Could you test: single channel 4000mhz ram vs 2000mhz in dual channel will give you the same performance?

    It's pretty much made for laptops. The hdmi however is not actually hdmi, just the cable. The signal is totally different.

    You would have better luck using at 1650, with EGPU's having something like the 30xx on a processor like that will hinder you more then help. When it comes to external GPU's Thunderbolt 3/4 are still king in that aspect. I'm doing something similar with a 10900k and getting some amazing performance's. Keep up the awesome show Dawid! I would love to see you and TJ do more content togther... Maybe an EGPU showdown?

    If you lower the monitors resolution or only use the GPU as a rendering device it would probably perform better since yeah, 1x is not doing HDMI and GPU stuff at the same time

    Had an idea based on the view from 5:12 and checked your other videos. Looks like there was an option (and samsung's support page indicates this as well, AMD Radeon HD 7850M to be exact) for a GPU to be soldered onto the motherboard. So maybe there might be a way of getting something like an PCI-E 8x slot from that bare section of where the GPU was meant to go.

    Damn, I thought the recent eGPU setups from PC World and Jarrod's Tech crippled Ampere's performance. 1x PCIe though...hot damn.

  • @ram89572

    @ram89572

    If we assume that was a gen 3 PCIe then that means that the max bandwidth was a whole 1GB/s each direction. Talk about some crippled performance. I bet the card was doing all of that while still taking a nap.
