The Pressley Girls Complete Morning Song Concert 2020

Музыка

A while back, The Pressley Girls (AKA Corie and Katie, AKA Chatter and Chitter) were asked to do a virtual Morning Song Concert for the John C. Campbell Folk School. The girls have performed for morning song quite a few times over the years. The Folk School uses the concerts as a way to help their students and staff start the day, just before breakfast. Of course, due to Covid, there are no students on campus currently. The Folk School continues to provide some services/classes online, and likewise, they've continued the concerts, only streamed or videoed. In keeping with the traditional, in-person concerts, the performing artists are not to stop and "cut" or edit during the performance. What I've uploaded here is our first attempt at shooting the unbroken or unedited set of songs. We shot two completely different takes on two separate Saturdays. The girls wound up liking the second take better, and it's the version that was uploaded the JCCFS website. Although I made a ton of mistakes on the bass in the first song of this video, I preferred this take the best overall, and they gave me permission to upload it here for your listening. In the video, the girls dedicate the show to our good friend, Mr. David Kaynor, who is suffering from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). David is the greatest fiddler I've ever played with in person when it comes to composing and performing original fiddle melodies, and he's one of the nicest people I've met as well. As I upload this video, I've just learned that Tony Rice passed yesterday, so I'll also dedicate this video in his memory. The girls and I love his music, and they've learned a lot from him, including the Norman Blake song they do in this video (Ginseng Sullivan). If you have the time and inclination, after you watch here, you can visit the JCCFS Channel here: • The Pressley Girls - N... and watch the other version of the show, then come back here and comment about which version you like the best. Do you agree with me or with them? Thanks for watching and for reading all of this! :-)

Delightful, on a musical lol level but on so many more, too. It might be commonplace where you are and in your circles, but tight families playing acoustic ensembles in their own kitchen is an incredibly rare and priceless thing in today's world. 👍👌

Beautiful. The celtic origins of the music are so clear to me, particularly 'holding David '. I love your harmony. I'm a very old Welshman and I well remember rugby stadiums resonating with hymns in 4 part harmony by crowds of many thousands who had never met. Please keep up your wonderful music and stay true to your heritage.

What a powerful song and I love the girls voices. My great grandfather, grandfather and his brothers were all coal miners in KY. I only have one old photo of them and it looks like they are covered in coal, standing on a mountain. I left at 6 years of age, so no memory of them but it still brought tears. Beautiful job, girls!

I've just been taking in all the videos. Both channels. I'm sitting hear listening and just feel so tearful. I'm thinking about you Tipper and Deer Hunter, how proud y'all must be. I am thinking about my younguns and how we are all just so close too. My heart is weepy for all of those who just don't have that. I'm praying maybe others can find this channel and just become a part of what y'all have so they don't got to be so lonely. Praying for all y'all too. I am so blessed to be here.

@Jess Hi there! You mentioned that you had never been to the South, but you can change that. You should come visit our lovely state sometime. It's got loads of different geographical areas, from the Atlantic Coastal Plain and the Outer Banks in the east, to the foothills of the Piedmont in the middle of our state, to the Great Smoky Mountains, the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Appalachian Trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway in western Carolina. You'll be more than welcome. I'm not in the North Carolina mountains; I live in eastern North Carolina, about 45 minutes from the Atlantic coast, in the small city of New Bern. 😃🙂👋✌

Brings memories when I was a child that my Dad and Mom would go down to my great grandma and my great aunt house down in Kentucky. I was raised in the suburbs but still had hills to climb and hollers to explore. The music I would hear down there in Eastern Kentucky. Good old moutain music. Your can tell where are ancestors are from because of the mountain music. Irish is my family ancestry and that's how the music comes from.

Gave me chills when I heard the song the girls dedicated to the late David Kayner. When the Pressley girls harmonize together it just reaches down inside of my soul. ❤
