I hope you're watching this in the office with 2 large pizzas, diet Coke and box of cookies.
-Cheat meals are not necessary, they are done for psychological reasons. -Eat cheat meals post workouts to potentiate growth (1 or 2 meals after the workout). -Have a protein shake if you cheat meal doesn't have much protein or just because it will take longer to digest so that means you can take more protein (eat between 1.5 to 2 times the normal amount of protein per cheat meal). -Don't cheat meal everyday, the less the better. -Have your cheat meal be around 30% of your daily caloric intake at most. -Cheat meals also have negative effects for psychological reasons, once you tasted the good food you want more of it when previously you had the habit of eating healthy food, don't make a habit out of them, do them when neccesary. -Eat cheat meals during social occasions to have more fun(don't be a fatty that eats uber eats alone in your house like the sad lonely person that you are). -Mike doesn't have friends. -Jared is an IFBB pro. -Don't think too much about what is the optimal cheat meal (they are for pleasure, the concept of cheat meal means it's not good, you are trying to optimize oreos vs pizza). -You can eat less fats before the cheat meal to save some calories and rather than doing two normal meals just do one big cheat meal one or two meals after the workout to not gain as much fat from your cheat meal.

He touches on this in the last point, but I think it bears repeating: Don’t worry too much about cutting your Calories to make room for your cheat meal. One, that typically means less food in your peri-workout period, probably not ideal. Two, that transaccional approach, trying to balance the books or undo the damage, can get ugly for some folks. This is supposed to be fun.

In my experience as a fitness and diet coach, cheat meals, especially cheat days shouldn’t be encouraged at all. They almost always result in a huge setback that undoes days, if not an entire week’s worth of hard work. They also often trigger a relapse because ultimately the problem with being overweight comes down to an addiction to junk food.
Mike, your sense of humour has me in stitches every single time. Cheers for the informative yet entertaining content!

I never laughed so hard. I kept thinking that Scott the video guy has to be some kind of professional, 'cuz I don't know how he kept from laughing out loud. Dr. Mike, I'm going to have to re-watch this video. I'm sure I missed large portions of your cheat meal wisdom among all the jokes. Thank you, I needed a good laugh today. 💗💕💕
Of all the fitness videos I have watched in my life, this. Finally a fitness video (as with all your videos but this one) is something extremely practical and helpful. Thanks for this
Hey Doc, man I got hooked up to watching your channel, I love the jokes and real life digs that people will try to come up to justify their cause and that includes me, and the most I love is you say it as it is no sugar coating or what so ever. 👍
Your content is on point… and I love the humor and sarcasm! You seriously need your own show! Thank you for offering information that is so helpful and the laughter that has my abs getting a workout! 😂👏
I told my gf that cheating is fine, she is at her Ex-bf's house doing yoga while im eating a burger
I do one or two cheat meals a week during a fat loss phase. Not because I think it's doing anything for my metabolism but just because I'm not in any rush and I don't have any deadline. I like to indulge and I'm still in a defecit for the week. If one week the deficit is a little smaller it doesn't really bother me as long as I know I was in a deficit. Going too hard or trying to rush it has always backfired so I'm just taking my sweet old time. I don't need to be in a 500 cal deficit every single day. Some days can be maintenance, some days can he just 1-300 below. Some days 500+ some days 500 over. Most days I'm in a deficit and I've been losing about half pound a week. Once you get close to 15% it's better to slow down.

I'm the same. I love pizza, donuts, and ice cream. I ain't giving them up! So on weekends I enjoy a few and a couple drinks. I'm still losing between 2.5 to 4 lbs a month. I eat no junk during week.
Once again, thanks for being both informative and entertaining!
Thank you Mike. Well done as always. Appreciate your content.
I feel super validated knowing that I’ve been approaching my larger meals mostly the way Mike recommends to.
I read your book,RP diet 2.0 and I also am using the app. Learned about this from watching Rich Froning. All of your videos are truth man. I always end up making a “cheat day” out of it. But you are right. This video is exactly what I needed to hear.
Love Dr. Mike's ad libs, you brought a smile to myself (you sick f---) AWESOME 🤣
Thank you for the information you share, Mike. Just caught myself that your videos are about few which has me both laughing and rewinding backwards to properly understand important and useful details you share. Thank you again for what you doing. You deserve good friends by your side ))

This is my second week on the diet app. I'm loving it. Snacking is completely gone as well as completely junk food. We're having a party tomorrow, so I'll finish this up soon for some guidance on navigating this.
Mike lowkey hitting us Lonely Lifters and Bodybuilders right in the feels with these Lonely remarks XD, Thanks Mike, just discovered your channel through Greg Doucette, really loving it, not gonna lie you're my new Source of info i'll watch everyday on the stairmaster and treadmill on the Ipad. Salute!
Appreciate the information Dr Mike.
Best advice ever. I used to do this not doing cheat meals for my weight cuts for tournaments. I kinda forgot it now that I stopped competing and was trying to loose weight with cheat meals and they often killed my slow gained progress.
The main thing to watch out for with cheat meals is that excess oils, processed sugar, and salt can make people who don't eat that stuff very often feel awful. When I do have a cheat meal, I'll make sure not to eat too much or all be on the toilet for two days. So if I end up at a fast food place and need to eat something, I'll just get a burger and water, skipping the soda and fries.
I love the videos. This channel is an outright goldmine of laughs, knowledge and wisdom. I’m inbetween getting a notebook to be writing shit down and laughing my ass off.
This is so useful !! Can you make a video series on just cheat meals, i think it would really help a lot of people to be smarter with it ! Thanks !!

Hi Dr.Mike! Thank you for the video, it was great. Is it a good idea to create a video about the effects of anabolics and cheat meals? Some people who use those stuff seem to be able to get away with so many calories that burning it off seems incredible given the amount of calories and the frequency of the cheat meals. They may not eat that much or it may be easy for them to burn it off but if there is really a significant relationship with these drugs and calorie expenditure, making a video about it may clear up some confusion.
I wish Doctor Mike was my uncle. Yknow what maybe not my uncle. But I wish I had this man on speed dial. So much useful info
Guy has such a great personality. Smart and funny.

Hey Mike, your videos have helped me immensely in losing weight and your tangents are amazing! I would love to see a video about recomps while being obese. I’m new to de gym (2 months) and on a weight loss diet. 240lbs 5’5’. A video focused on people like me who are clinically obese and willing to go to the gym and diet would be an immense help to many, i think. Love you!

There are two main things to focus on when working to lose weight, staying active as much as possible during the day and staying consistent with the diet. Consistent, low intensity activity is really crucial to losing weight early on in the weight loss journey. Many people will work too hard at the gym trying to force quick changes and then sit around at home super tired doing nothing. That causes them miss out on an the extra calories that are burned by cleaning, doing yard work, or taking the dog for walk. Intensive workouts are great for saving time, but most people feel less tired spreading their activity throughout the day.
I just love Dr. Mike
Love your videos Mike
Legend thank you ! Hahah been beating myself up over my Sunday cheat meal. Now I have a clearer outline !
great video as always. Just wondering if there is any benefit to having one day of maintaince per week during an agressive mini cut? E.g train 4 days per week (Wed, Thurs, Sat, Sun) and have a maintaince day on friday to replenish glycogen / help recover a little bit more prior to weekend training?
Liking the new setup :)

My boy gots me laughing literally in the middle of my set 🤣 legendary!
Decided today I’ll have myself a free dinner. Finished up season b on September the 28th and had a free meal that night and this is my first free meal since that meal. Having a steak sandwich loaded with goodies with a side of sweet potato fries and a drink or whiskey. Left about 800 calories for dinner but this unplanned free meal will go above that but I’m not worried. Bw had barely moved since the initial jump from prep
Mike … you are the MAN!! 👍👍👍
Thanks!
Are there considerations for how to approach cheat meals based on where someone is at in relation to their diet cycles? For example, does the same set of rules apply for someone two months into a mass vs a person in week one transitioning from a cut into a mass?
Oreos + skim milk is happening this weekend, thanks king

Eww skim milk 🤮
Dude his sense of humor. Love it 😂
Gonna be honest when I do cheat I always make sure it fits my macros more or less and its usually still a lean chicken and good carb style cheat meal. I actually had a proper cheat meal last week and had a pizza for the first time in nearly a year and all I tasted was fat and salt and didn't enjoy it lol
This is what I have been doing and found success. I try to lose .5% a week and divide deficit in 6 days and one day go to maintenance to eat"cheat" foods that I want. The deficit is not hard enough which would make my 6 day diet miserable and I get to enjoy foods on Sunday. I have lost 30 pounds this way. I started at 297.
Once again. Great info. But I’m here for the entertainment. And once again Dr. Mike comes through.
Thank you
you are so freaking weird in an awesome way! Really enjoy your humor Dr. Mike.
I think it's a better term to call them treats and no cheats. A cheat has a negative connotation, while a treat does not. And as you said, a treat can and should fit in your weekly calorie allowance.

Love eating steak dinners and diner steak and egg breakfasts. You can get a total protien high, or some kinda high.
I just started cutting, dr mike coming in clutch
What if your cheat meal is alcohol? I know you need to keep it as far as possible from your workout. What seems to be in dispute is whether or not to eat protein with alcohol. Some say your body will digest only the alcohol until it is fully metabolized, which would mean you either store all the other nutrients as fat or you just crap it all out. However, if you can digest the alcohol with other nutrients at the same time, then it would make sense to combine it with protein. The last option would be to go commando and just drink alcohol on an empty stomach and keep it empty until the alcohol has metabolized. The last option usually ends with you waking up with a sharpie mural on your face. But you will feel lean.
Mike, what about a cheat day during a body recomposition phase? What are your thoughts on that?
OMG Mike.. when you mentioned all you can eat sushi multiple times.. I thought we are neighbours for a second and going to the same place with that waitress on Fridays :) Thank you for great content!
Whoah grats on 900k subs. I was watching your videos and noticed that it went from 899k to 900k.
Dr. Mike has the best humor
10:13 "As long as you keep on paying me" oh man i died a little
I was on a weight loss journey that started last year and lasted for 11 months, I lost 12 kgs and went from 74 kg to 62 kg. I'm on maintenance for now, I will start my muscle gain journey in 1-2 months. So during my fat loss journey (11 months) I was eating 1500-1550 cal. every day, except for Fridays, when I had cheat meals. And this cheat meal was almost always a cheese pizza. A whole cheese pizza (a small one though, approximately 25-30 cm). I ate it all by myself, It brought me joy, but I was still losing 100-150-200 gramms per week. I guess, the fact that I was super strict with my macros during the rest of the days helped me a lot. Because, man oh man, a cheese pizza is way more than 30% of my calories intake. In wonder why it worked for me... I am on maintenance for 4 months now, and I'm still 62 kgs (the weight fluctuated from 61,3 to 62,3, but I'm a woman, so it's understandable), I still have heavy cheat meals like this on fridays and I still manage to maintain the weight. Maybe it's because I workout at the gym 4 times a weak and lift heavy and also walk 10k steps a day... I am confused, as to how I managed to lose and maintain with such heavy cheat meal every week
Always great 👍
In this video, Dr. Mike puts an emphasis on meal timing. Paraphrasing, "eat your cheat meal 2 meals after a workout". What is the magnitude of effect of doing that vs eating your cheat meal right after? More generally, what's the magnitude of effect of meal frequency + protein distribution through the day? Is it measurable on a DEXA scan... monthly? yearly?
i´m eating very healthy high carb, low fat, moderate protein...but i also love unhealthy foods, like most of us :-) so my diet plan also includes every 2 weeks a fun - day where i can eat whatever i want but without going overboard...my fun - day is not for boosting my metabolism or to refeed it´s just because i love this time - out for my brain and my body...no matter whether i am bulking or in a cut :-) greetings from austria, vienna!!!
Would you recommend deload/maintenance in between a bulk phase and a cutting phase?
I like "planned hedonic deviations," where I will eat fewer calories for several days leading up to a mean that I know is outside of the scope of what my typical day might look like.
I love this man
I find that what I cut out most is what I end up binging on. It is mainly carbs like: rice, bread, and noodles. They happen time to time. Consistency is key. It is hard to develop a strong discipline to follow. I'm working on it.

The day after my cheat meal, I have my best workout and a great kickstart to the rest of the week
I have a nice Trick too. Eat the First meal normal. Then combine the second clean meal with the third cheat meal in one. You will be so full. 💪👊🙏 Good Video ❤

Usually when it comes to cheat meals, I save it for the weekend (controlled of course because calories) but I do as a way to reward myself for keeping the “clean” diet throughout the week
These videos make me literally laugh out loud 😂😂😂
Any good way to set up a consistent diet to cut extra fat but building muscle at the same time? (Even if it takes a longer time than a cut-bulk periodization) if you workout 6 days a week and box 4-5 days a week.
Just found your channel and am hooked. I'll be your friend 😂
PLEASE BE A GUEST ON THE THEO VON PODCAST THIS PAST WEEKEND!!!! Y’all are too funny 😅
Dr. Mike, possibly stupid question, how do you incorporate a cheat meal using the RP Diet app?
Proud of the guy who made the thumbnail of this video
So if my goal is to loose weight - I am not allowed to cheat meal since it will influence my lose of weight.

Nope cheat meal can speed up ur metabolism
My only take away is that oreos with skim milk is growth juice. Lovely to learn
I only have 1 cheat meal a month but I know I way over do it (I can't enjoy it otherwise) I usually have either a 12-16 inch pizza and a large portion of chip shop chips, or I'll have a large donner meat calzone and a large portion of chip shop chips. I usually cut my calories a few days before and after the meal and barely eat anything on the day of the meal. I used to only have 1 cheat meal every few months . Even when bulking its twice a month maximum and that's still cutting Calories a few days before and after
At certain point I started to feel personally attacked by this video haha! Tremendous video as always RP crew
Thoughts on caffeine post-workout?
