You have one guy who meets bookie at poker games and admits he had long term gambling issues, people think he must be the fall guy. While the other person literally never gambled or shown any interest in any sports other than baseball, he must be the degenerate gambler. Internet is wild.

Dude, large sums came out of Shohei’s personal bank account multiple times. The possibility of this happening without Shohei’s knowledge is zero. Banks at minimum will need Shohei’s signature and speak to him over the phone before releasing the funds.

Ohtani is also generous. He had at least one account that had 10 million in it used for donations to be allocated to charities, which had been entrusted to his assistant, Ippei. If Ippei tapped into the donation account or accounts, then this could very well explain how Shohei never got suspicious, assuming the account was functioning like it should. Ippei had every reason to lie that Shohei gave him the money since if he didn't, he would have admitted to theft on the spot. When Shohei's lawyers got hold of what ippei said, they made him retract the statement. Shohei's lawyers immediately declared the theft side of the story.

Sad but he was betrayed a big time. Some Japanese reports said people heard Ohtani yelling loud at Ippei when he admitted he transferred the money without his approval in the room. Ohtani now has wife but living in a foreign country for 6 years without any family member close by, Ippei must be the only person he felt close.
