In regard to the home run ball and the translator, the translator did not lie he simply inferred Ohtani’s context incorrectly. Shohei basically said the fan was spoken to and the ball will be received. But the translator said that I spoke to the fan. He definitely did not lie.

It’s the fact that in the Japanese language if you don’t specify the subject, you can’t tell who did what. It is spoken in passive term which can mean he did it or someone else did it. will Ireton didn’t do such a big mistake. Ippei was even worse..he got sloppier and sloppier as years went. The last year was mind boggling at times. But now we know why…the guy was about to explode with gambling loss stress!!

The problem in Ohtani's case wasn't federal agents wanting to make a name for themselves, but so-called reporters, namely ESPN's Tisha Thompson who fell for the conman's story, reported it uncritically and tried framing the victim as the perpetrator. No journalistic integrity whatsoever, no correction, retractions or apologies to Ohtani whose reputation she seriously tried to damage for the sake of being the first to report the story. How does this woman still have a job? She even has her article with the totally fake Ippei version pinned to the top of her twitter profile? So she's proud of getting conned by Ippei and writing about it...? 🤦🏻‍♀️

People don’t get that the reason so much of this feels shady is because Ohtani literally had ZERO idea that he had so much money stolen from him over the course of several years by the time he made the original statement. About the HR ball, Ohtani said “there was a talk with the fan. She gave the ball” in form of humble language. But the new interpreter translated “I talked to the fan”. That’s how the confusion started. The new guy speaks more clearly than Ippei but I don’t think Ippei would make that kind of mistake since he has many years of experience. Ohtani is completely innocent here. He never logged in to that account Ippei was stealing from for years according to the affidavit.

There was an issue with Ohtani’s new interpreter and the home run ball. When the media asked Ohtani about his first home run ball with the Dodgers, Ohtani answered that “someone” talked to the fan and was able to get the ball back. But the interpreter made a mistake and said “I” talked to the fan. I don’t think the new interpreter mistranslated on purpose but he doesn’t seem like a professional interpreter either. It also didn’t help that a click hungry journalist wrote several tweets and articles implying that Ohtani lied about meeting the fan without reaching out to Ohtani’s camp to check. I felt bad for Ohtani because a lot of people were bashing him when he never said “I met the fan” or “I talked to the fan”. And it turns out that on the day Ohtani hit his first home run with the Dodgers, he was interviewed by the Feds. The whole situation was just unnecessarily blown out of proportion. Good news is that Ohtani met the fan a few days ago and the fan said she was super happy. So everything worked out in the end. I hope that Ohtani’s agent and the Dodgers hire professional interpreters (not just one interpreter because we saw what can happen when you rely on one person) for Ohtani and do thorough background checks from now on.

There are levels of language fluency. It’s not a simple yes or no when you are learning a second language. I’m sure Jeff Passan talked with Ohtani in English, but I doubt he was talking about complicated topics like finances, taxes, or the law which require a higher level of fluency. In addition, one-on-one conversations tend to be easier to follow along in your non-primary language, than discussions in group settings, meetings, lectures, or fast-paced discussions. Plus, I’m sure Ohtani’s level of English now has improved since he came to the US and Mizuhara helped him to set up the bank account he later stole from when he most likely knew very little English.

A point to be made here is the actual job of a professional interpreter. It’s not to translate word for word in most cases. It’s to make sure the players responses to media are formal and official and given in a way that is understandable to the audience. Basically an agent that happens to speak the same language

It happened in my bussiness were an employer whose also manager took out money from the campany to use on his expense. Forget the haters that comes on making assumptions, accusation and accusing him without facts, but the media are accusing him because it brings controversy and ratings to their show. Here's some of the clients and associates that robbed and stole money from athletes and celebrities - Tim Duncan was robbed $20 million dollars, John Elway lost $15 million, Kareem Abul Jabbar lost $9 million, Kevin Garnett lost $78 million, Usain Bolt lost $12 million, Robert DeNiro lost $88 million dollars, Elton John lost $29 million, Billy Joel $90 million ect......All by clients, associates and even close partners.

The new interpreter didn't LIE. It was just a slight misunderstanding between him and Ohtani. Because he still doesn't know Ohtani so much, he misinterpreted what Ohtani said. I think Ohtani' words weren't clear enough either. If it were Ippei, no matter how horrible the person was, maybe that kind of miscommunication never happened. But I'm sure they will get over it eventually. No bad on the new interpreter's side.

The BaseballDoesntExist video about Ohtani talks about how in 2 years of taking a $1000 stipend from his millions in Salary from his mother, he had $20k left at the end of that time because he doesn’t spend money at all. Ohtani is taken care of, by the club, and probably doesn’t look at his bank accounts statements. This guy completely lied to Ohtani, and Ohtani didn’t know why he was fired until AFTER he told the team he was fired in Korea. He had to have another interpreter tell him what Ippe said, and then tell management that’s not lining up with what he was told by Ippe. All this aside, Ohtani is a person and this has to hurt. Ippe was with him since 2013, and by all accounts, they were best friends.
