The pitching was amazing. I love watching pitchers with good "stuff".. However, I think Shohei showed more about American baseball in his Pitching Save than the entire Japanese pitching staff portrayed about Japanese League Pitching. It took Major League heat to shutdown the best in the Major League.

They played the right way. Not just home runs and strike outs. Fundamentally they were way ahead.

In anime, these 5 throws should last about 4 episodes. Each throw has flashback of Othani and Trout, follow by teammate flashback. Then they will have monologue between the protagonists. The final throw will not be shown, it will skip forward to future where they already gone back to home, 3 months has passed. Then you will see their team holding the cup in picture frame.

@@ninjaundermyskin yep. People dreamt of this matchup when it got closer to being possible with how they both progressed in the tournament. But I doubt it was like this. Game on the line where either Ohtani seals the game or Trout either gets on base or ties it with a homer. And it went full count. 6 pitches in total with no foul balls. Just ball, swinging strike, ball, swinging strike, ball, and finally swinging strike out. And to top it all of it’s the 2 countries who are home to the top 2 leagues in the world (with South Korea behind them)

I agree what a moment

One of the greatest moments in baseball. Two transcendent players facing off where the outcome was secondary. Also, having it be at full count made it perfect.

@@Reignado actually, it did make me more interested in the world baseball classic. I've seen it before, and used to be a big braves fan when glavine was pitching and chipper Jones was everywhere. But this was cool to watch for sure. That's a big moment

What a moment! I love that Ohtani took it to Trout. Two fastballs directly over the plate at 100mph and then a slider to end it??? That's the stuff of legends.

That last pitch was perfect. The balls it takes to throw a slider across the middle of the plate on a 3-2 count against one of the best hitters all-time in his prime in the final frame of the championship game, we just witnessed a legend. He hangs that slider, the ball is gone, homerun.

3:37 Baseball needs more of this. What a beautiful touch of respect toward the other team if not Trout directly from Ohtani. It has always bothered me they do not shake hands at the end of the game like Little League, but this was close enough.

This moment will be remembered years from now when both Trout and Ohtani are in the HOF.

I'm not even a baseball fan but this was fun for me to watch as a casual international sports watcher. Congratulations to the Japanese team & its fans, they are a class act! Japan is now, without a doubt, the most successful baseball world champion in history. Nice!

I’ve watched this scene a dozen times and each time tears flow. Must have been an amazing moment for Japan. Must have been a frustrating moment for USA. Disclaimer: I grew up in Japan in an international school watching both Japanese and Major League Baseball. I know how much Japanese players respect and look up to MLB players and that’s why this is like the moment of finally “getting there”. Before this game Shohei told his players: “Guys, this is it. Leave aside any admiration for the USA players. I know you guys are in awe of MLB players but not today. Let’s go get em!”

I had the same reaction. It's just beautiful how baseball, which originated in the USA, is now enjoyed by so many different people across the world. It's almost like a symbolic torch passing that the US isn't the only dominant baseballing powerhouse, and as a USA citizen myself, I wouldn't have it any other way. As the commentator said that night, "Tonight, baseball wins."

This is almost just as intense as when it happened live. This is what sports is all about. This was truly a special moment in sports.

It's certainly a great script, like a movie, but it would be too unrealistic to write a script in which this winning pitcher goes on to become the home run king in MLB and win the MVP award.

Its been over 5 days... But ive literally watched this over 100 times. SOOOOOO ELECTRIFYING

The re invigoration of baseball in America has a direct correlation with Ohtanis success. He's incredible and even though he (and japan) beat us this kind of excitement and attention to the Great American pass time makes me so happy

Its a truly beautiful sport with some of the most technical playcalling and moving parts on the field. But to go global it needs to be understandable easily like soccer or baseball. And they need to invest in getting rid of the refs/expediently overruling bad calls and no-calls

I don't even watch baseball and I don't know it's rules but even I am impressed and cheering after that last throw. This 3 minute video is quite amazing! 😮

He had the pure class, on top of skill, to throw the last pitch off the plate. Amazing.

2:36 and slow it down 0.25 What a Beauty!!! Up the middle and curve at home base. Hit him with 2 fast ball making him believe, if it coming middle it gotta be a fast ball but it curves and wow! Played with his head! This dude is crazy good! Crazy how I hear about him but didn’t know he was this good! And shock he been playing for 5 years and I’m just now hearing him. The angel wasting his talent.

You could've never written a better script than this. This ending was absolutely incredible.

It still amazes me that Ohtani is not only a great hitter but also a great pitcher!!! Just wow!!!

Love the fact that another country like Japan loves and excels at our national past time. What an incredible ending. I wanted USA to win since im from here obviously but wow it makes me happy to see them put up such a great game

I come back to watch this clip every so often. I remember being in awe watching live. Like there is no way the championship game of the WBC came down to these two - two of the best players in the games (if not the best) - and they just so happened to be teammates at the time with the Angels. This has to go down as one of the most iconic moments in the history of baseball.

There could be no better way for the WBC to end...Shohei Ohtani vs Mike Trout, 2 of baseball's greatest players, who just happen to play on same MLB team... WOW 😲💯!!!! Shohei was amped up beyond belief...100mph+ on the first 5 pitches to Trout - then, he throws a slider from heaven or another galaxy... here's hoping they can contend in the AL West

Wow, they hug and I didn't expect to see that excitement from them, pretty cool Japan and I can't help but to feel the pride especially being a regular American guy so thank you Japan!

Whenever I watch this matchup, it is amazing and exciting. We're witnessing the history of baseball.

I cant recall a moment like this in Baseball....crazy and surreal.

We don't even have baseball in the UK but now I am a fan of the sport and Shohei Otani. Congrats to team Japan.
