I was at this game as a 14-year-old with my 11-year-old brother and our dad. I remember the word starting to spread in the crowd and people checking their phones. I remember the “USA!” chant breaking out. I’m getting chills now even writing this. Especially the Rays. People want to see the Yankees or Red Sox in the World Series, not Tampa Bay. The Stanley Cup could be GREAT this year, if the Rangers get there against either Edmonton or Dallas (I prefer Edmonton). The Florida Panthers are the only one of the four teams left that can F things up, so I fully expect that to happen. I remember being in the army when this happened. We had just got back from Afghanistan and the word was going around that we were getting the next day off. It was a Sunday night so we were happy even though we knew nothing about what was going on. Then all the news stations started talking about the President coming on for some speech. Then it hit us when we found out the news. Leadership were all out drinking and celebrating and no one wanted to come in for work lol. I didn't mind it. Me and the boys just stayed up all night playing COD, enjoying the night off as we knew we didn't have to go in for roll call at 5am.

I don't like to celebrate the death of anyone, but my daddy and I were watching this particular game, but lived in a dead zone. So we didn't know what was going on until Daddy changed the channel and found out for us, then went back to the game. I ran next door to tell my husband after Daddy and I hugged. I wasn't happy someone was dead, but it was definitely a very emotional moment. It felt like closure to a very horrible chapter. I was grown when 9/11 happened and remember the fear and the anger and the terror we all felt. Bin Laden needed to die for what he did. We even got ahold of Momma at work and found out she knew before we did because she had a cell signal at her job lol. Then I came back over to her and Daddy's place and watched Mets and Phillies fans actually hug haha
