The mysteries of Italy's notorious abandoned orphan asylum

Located on top of a hill somewhere in Italy, there is a former monastery that has just been sitting empty for almost 30 years now. It is a puzzling place with an obscure history. While it was used as orphan asylum and seminary before it shut down, today it is haunted by nocturnal ghostbusters and sometimes also Satanists holding black masses inside. In this episode, we explore the building complex to find out why it is such an enigmatic place - and we quickly realize that it is indeed full of surprises. #urbex #abandonedplaces #bwturbex

This was the first week of doing BWT full-time! From February onwards, we are planning to invest most of our time in this project. As part of this, we will also spend more time exploring! In one week, we want to travel to France to see the country and experience its numerous grand and imposing abandoned sites. Hopefully, COVID is not upsetting our plans again! We want to spend at least two weeks on the road (which also means there might be some delays with our next upload). For updates check our Instagram stories!

This monastery was a Franciscan Friary and yes possibly an orphanage as well. That statue outside is of St Anthony of Padua holding the child Jesus. The frescoes inside the Chapel are the depiction of the saints, God, Christ, the Virgin Mary, and an angel soothing the souls in purgatory by pouring water from a jug, etc.... Sundial looking frescoes are symbols of Christ as in the host after the consecration. The tunnels usually were built to hide from the enemies of the Church during the war, etc... I hope that helps.

Archangels Raphael and Gabriel, the former appearing to a young Tobias (with the fishes). The frescos are anachronistic to the walls that they adorn, having been painted after the structure. The allegories aren’t as esoteric as they would be in 17/1800s visual language.

Thank you again. I feel a profound sadness when I tour these abandoned places with you. I know I choose to watch or not, but over all I'm grateful for the time and effort you put into these glimpses to the past. My emotional response surprises me. These things I know: 1. Any monastery with such a tunnel downward into town cannot escape the shadows of the past as it was. God knows. 2. I'm afraid of heights, so you really got to me while lightly stepping around those roof peaks! 😯 Does your group have a certain person that volunteers for that role?? 3. Loved to see those swallows chilling! Thanks again. I love the art and architecture of these places, even though they are disintegrating and returning to dust!

Now I can comment your latest video, guys. This church ist absolutely stunning. In Italy people are very religious, and so their churches remain relatively untouched, how lucky are we? I do not understand all the symbolism shown, but on some of the drawings we can surely see angels who either defeat an angry demon or talk to the poor souls in hell or maybe purgatory. I am always amazed, when you show a certain spot like the old well in the yard and then the photograph you took. Your pictures do really refine every location shown. And about the rotten pictures there - nature is an artist in its own way. Thank you for showing us this interesting and touching place.

It seems as though the nave was repainted in a more contemporary style, and it seems anachronistic against the architectural details of the building. 6:13 // Depiction of a young Tobias and the apparition of the archangel (possibly) Raphael. 6:20 // Likely archangel Gabriel (of water and of the West) raining consolation unto the damned. Most likely not a depiction of a saint, though perhaps St. Justa, who was martyred along with her sister for refusing to adorn the feast of Adon and Venus with their pottery (AD 287). 6:32 // Perhaps an allegory of the chaining to evil (the demon, the devil) those in power are liable to. The pan is a pagan symbol used to portray demonic/evil elements, debauchery, etc.. With an angel looking away in horror.

I know in America some tunnels were closed off for many reasons. Flooding, disease, so people can't get to certain areas, old bunkers. I want down in a bunker that was closed off from the rest of the town because of flooding. I guess you use be able walk under most of the town when the war was going on.

Very impressive vlog...Thank you Dudes for your big effort to share what valuable things from the Past. As Eastern people. Just wonder How good the ancient Architecture works, art, passion and how much cost to Build such Beautiful Monastery. The religious site, like the Monastery left for decay. Because younger generation might be they look religion don't mean much for them to face today life and matters. Building how Great it was just a n Object, without man is useless. We are in Indonesia lucky enough don't had such a Great Architectures Religious building left in empty... Warm Regards from 360 Sunshine days Country in Equator.

My father and I are both Australian-born but his father (my grandfather) was Italian born and raised--I heard his family owned a farm in Northern Italy before he migrated here. It's really interesting to have any sort of insight on what things would have looked like back then (in reference to the whole Italy series)!

3:39 as an American, I have to snicker a little bit at what you consider to be a “trashed” interior of a vehicle. Compared to some of the messy cars that I’m accustomed to seeing, your’s looks borderline-OCD clean and organized. Great video though. Love the channel ✌🏻🇺🇸🤗

I noticed that quite a lot of the paintings depicted the dangers of falling into the clutches of the devil. I find that rather ironic since in relatively recent times publicity for the Catholic church has often been far from positive. The clutches of some priests would seem to have been a major hazard.
