Season 7 is so underrated, it had a dark feel to it, not just the plots but the cinematography.. and you hit the hail on the head when you said that season 7s promos were something special. I will add to that, the second half of season 4-7 had amazing promos, I remember the promo to time stands still and secret standing out to me and I'll never ever forget the whole it goes there promo campaign and how it paint such a dark picture of the show and I loved every second of it.

Those "It Goes There" promos were awesome! And you're right, the promos for "Time Stands Still" were excellent, as well as the promos for the first half of Season 5!

I would say that season 5 was underrated mainly because it was sandwich between two seasons where two really notable (and tragic) events took place ( Season 4 School shooting season 6 JT is stabbed Lakehurst rivalry).

I agree! I actually just posted about Season 5. It gave us the beginning of Spinner's redemption, the JT/Liberty baby storyline, Paige and Alex, and Simpson and Ms. H!

I like the cast of Next Class but,the plots are SOO boring.The only thing that I like is Maya parts...facing her Depression. But,the cast looks so young it doesn't look like we grew up with them enough like we did with Clare KC Allie & Connor or the older ones Emma JT Manny and Toby

girl i hated how they kept giving Frankie and hunter story lines but not Esme at all. miles should have been the only sibling to have one since he was the only one being all types of abused.

Season 7 was dark, gritty, and underrated. The Lakehurst kids coming over really united the students of Degrassi

Season 8: You see Jimmy one last time lol But seriously , the Jane football storyline, introducing Riley and his struggle with being gay (totally different than Marcos) , you see Mia’s struggle with handling high school & being a mother, & of course Ali falling in puppy love with older bad boy Jonny Demarco. Excellent story telling. (P.S. My favorite season is TNG 3 )

Season 3 is pretty underrated. It's the most Sean and Jay heavy and they happen to be my favourite characters. Not hated, but overshadowed by Season 4's Rick plots and Season 5's plots. I definitely agree about 9 being the most consistent in terms of tone and quality, in fact when I just want to watch a singular episode, I generally turn to 9. I'd say Seasons 1 and 2 or the most underrated. So much so that it seems even the writers seem to forget they ever covered the 7th and 8th grade on the show, which bothers me. Seeing the kids grow from so small builds an even stronger connection to you and the character. When JT died we literally watched someone we've known since before he was even a teenager die, and that's what made it hit hard for me.

Season 3 is my favorite season, but I will say this about it: It does kind of end weakly.

My favorite Degrassi season was season 3! Although I think Degrassi season 1 and 2 where so underrated because to me it was so innocent. They actually did school work and school projects. I actually got the feel that they where actually in school. Sometimes I just get sick of seeing them have sooooo much drama and acting sooooo grown up that you forget these are kids.I think what Degrassi needs is to show the middle school kids and in their innocence.

Yea I agree! To me those where one of the best. I liked seeing that innocence and seeing kids navigate through normal stuff not just go right into sex and being raped and drugs. I do know obviously those things happen but not all kids go through that. Lol Sorry if I am ranting to much lol

Yes I really like Junior High! They had a mixture of innocence and a lot of drama. I just think if they keep it up like this atleast show a two minute segment of the middle school kids before they get to high school!

I agree. The first two seasons just had something special about them because they were so innocent. Not that I don't like the dramatic storylines but having that innocent period allows the audience to connect with the characters before all of the drama happens.

Here are my thoughts: I believe Seasons 1 and 2 are both underrated/overshadowed because people tend to blend the storylines together, and this was when the characters were barely teenagers before they really solidified their status as a teenage show. I also believe Season 8 was more understated than underrated because the storylines weren't as shocking or hard-hitting as previous seasons, but it still touched on topics like cyberbullying, gender and race stereotyping, high school dropouts, trauma/molestation, Asperger's Syndrome, and a different take on homosexuality before they were really trendy in society. Plus it also marked the return of beloved Degrassi alums in "Degrassi Goes Hollywood". Also, I personally feel the same way about how the last half of Season 13 was underrated, but I also feel the same about Season 14. The Degrassi Nudes storyline was okay, but the true shocker was learning about Clare's miscarriage, the gang wars that involve Zig, Tiny, Vince, and Damon, and saying goodbye to one of my personal favorite classes of Degrassi :)

I think 13-C and 13-D is underrated because of Zoë’s rape. Her assault was very moving but her perspective was interesting to me because she continued to be confident and then the emotions and trauma caught up to her and she sort of snapped, and attacked her offender which has not been shown from what I know so Zoë attacking Luke was really intense, but her victim impact statement was so moving, not to mention Alli and her abuse with Leo was really interesting and made me feel so bad for her. Last but not least Becky and her performance on Believe P1 and P2 was very emotional and made me cry a little bit not gonna lie.

There should be a promo playlist on KZread. Can anyone recommend a few that still exist? Season 13 was my pick too! After Adam's death, way too many people were quick to write it off. Plus with Alex Steele leaving a lot sooner than anticipated, Maya had to absorb a lot of her plots, thus making her annoying from all of her air time. She was the only common denominator between the preppy kids and the Rubber Room kids in grade 10, after all. On to the good, Triles is my OTP, and that season was so important to patiently build a friendship before becoming more than friends. And Zoë's assault and trial was a powerful storyline. Thank you so much for continuing with Degrassi Radio and Degrassi Corner. No one does talk about it anymore, not even the fans (compared to how it was back in the day). The cancel scare was the last time the most people came together. I knew that Netflix will hurt the community so I'm always thankful that Australia gave the fandom one last chance for the die hards to watch it together. The Whatever It Takes podcast (Soundclud and iTunes) is on Season 7 now. Considering that they were able to cover six whole seasons in just one year, it won't be long until they get to Season 9 and you can relive it through them!

I personally feel both seasons 9 and 10 were underrated on the simple fact that people got turned off by that insulting opening title sequence they used. I also feel that that twincest plot in season 9 was repelling to the fans as well.

Shark In the water was iconic

Season 2 is the most underrated season. It sets up so many storylines for future seasons (i.e. Marco's sexuality, Paige's sexual assault, Craig and Manny's weird dynamic). I think it's such a forgotten season because seasons 3 and 4 have so much going on in them.

I think season 2 of TNG is the most underrated. It's overshadowed by Season 3 in terms of popularity, but some of my favorite and most watched episodes are in season 2. When Doves Cry, Tears Are Not Enough, White Wedding, and Drive are all classics.

Jane's story line along with a lot of them in TNG season 8 seem to have slipped through the cracks along with some of TNG season 12 , because this showcases one reason behind Maya depression and how it effect others. I also think Bittersweet Symphony was one of the better episodes production and character plot/ storyline wise. It was something I knew was coming , however I wasn't expecting it that soon. Those are two seasons for me I find underrated. How ever I do agree with you Carey that Degrassi as a whole is under rated. I personally love Degrassi and how raw and real the story lines are to life.

Season 12 all my favorite episodes on there and everything on there.

I'm not sure where Season 5 ranks, but it does give us the beginning of Spinner/Darcy and Spinner's redemption, the JT/Liberty/baby storyline, and the Alex/Paige pairing!

My favorite scenes of all time were when Eli ran through the school naked and the one where Clare destroyed the cameras

I always find myself going back and rewatching season 1-3 of TGN. They're nostalgic and refreshing at how innocent the show used to be, but also trying to be realistic like with Paige's rape and Marco coming out.

I'm only a minute in, but before I forget I have to say that in my personal defense, I haven't seen anything past season 12 (aside for Cydes death cuz I bought that digitally to watch) because they stopped releasing them on DVD and I didn't want to finish off my collection onward digital and just waited. And now I don't even know what I've missed to where I basically just end my degrassi brain with what I have.

You took the words right outta my mouth regarding season 9. Other than a few episodes, I barely remember it. For me the most underrated season would have to be season 11(the first part of season 11) because a lot happened during that season. There's Drew and Bianca's gang plot, Jenna and KC struggling to parent their son which eventually resulted in putting him up for adoption, Holly J's illness and other plots. The second half of the season where Maya, Tris, Zig and Tori were introduced was really not that interesting. I barely watched it.

You're Black?! And male?! And a Degrassi fan?! I'm not the only one! I lost track around seasons 8-12, but I love season 2 of TNG. I don't know if it's considered underrated or not.

I think season 1 is. There was so much going on from the first episode with Emma nearly getting taken by an online predator to the final episode at the party that Ashley had that had an effect on half of season 2 and all of the issues that ended up replaying throughout the rest of the series.

Season 7 is for me. It was dark as hell.

The most underrated is season 2 and season 9. I think they're both great. I would've loved season 13 if Zoë, Tristan, and Miles didn't annoy me so much.

Am I the only one thats two favorite TNG chracetrs are from Season 2-6 and Season 14-Next Class Season4?

I like Spinner and Emma together I just wish we had more lead in. They just threw those two together and then never explained it. I saw the chemistry between the two throughout the show and they were a crackship of mine, I just didn't want it like that. I think it would have been better if the wedding was given to Manny and Jay, Spinner and Emma were given a cutesy relationship that we could see blossoming into something more, and Jane could still show up to wreck it I guess. Then in DNC they could drop an "Emma and Spinner are married now" and everyone would've went AWW THAT'S CUTE instead of EW THAT'S STILL A THING.

Well said. I initially hated that they got married out of nowhere. After watching it again years later, I'm not so mad about it. They definitely have chemistry but, like you said, there should've been a build up and the rest could've been left open-ended.

To me 2,7,14 are underrated for me

I will say that switching networks tends to put the writers in weird censorship and character restrictions. Like, you can tell when MTV and Nickelodeon both picked up the show

The racism storyline on DNC Season 2 was horribly done tbh. They just don't have the format to do the BLM movement justice. Super sloppy. The examples were stupid and not clearly racist. Furthermore making Frankie confront her own "racist nature" ignores the institutional racism that affects POC today. Like how does having some little white girl confronting her privilege highlight REAL injustices? Has me heated, man. I felt the same way with the Adam/ Transgender storyline. Like super sloppy with not enough nuance and complexity. Like don't attempt the issue if you are not going to do it right!

Yes! And I also hated that it dragged on throughout the entire season. It wasn't that great of a plot to begin with(as far as the writing) and then to have it drag on like that was just too much. I honestly would've much rather seen more of Hunter's storyline.

It also made zero sense. The whole thing should've been handled by the parents and the school. The other team should've been punished for what they did to Degrassi too, especially for forcing the Muslim girl to come outside without her religious head scarf. The whole Degrassi team approved of the poster anyway!!

With my last comment said, My favorite season and underrated season are kinda hard to say. Because each era has different stuff. I prefer Degrassi High over Degrassi Junior High. But then skip to TNG and everything from 2001-2010 is so different from 2010 onward. So picking two from each I'd say FAV: Season 5/11 Underrated: Season 8/10

To me, Adam in general was underrated simply on the fact he is Trans. It was terrible to see him be taken away so soon, they could have done so many things with his character, like Becky running off with Eli and Clare and Adam finding comfort in each other and subsequently falling in love. I'm one of the few, if not the only people who firmly believe Cladam is a highly viable possibility in the long term, Your thoughts, Kary? Am I on the mark or way off?

I totally agree with season 13! Thunderstruck is one of my favourite episodes of Degrassi honestly (apart from Drew being an idiot but what's new lol), but I will admit personal bias bc I think Miles and Zoe are some of the most interesting and strangely charming and unlikeable Degrassi characters. And the characters are really how I rank them tbh - which is why don't like a lot of seasons 10-12 which was the Clare and Eli show: I don't really care for them that much.

I miss the old degrassi with Emma and jay and all of them. I feel like the old degrassi really went there. The new episodes are too elementary. I would let a 6 year old watch it. The old degrassi I would not, like with Ellie it shows her really " self harming " Also when jimmy was shot, or when ty and his friend forgot his name were messing around with tons of condoms in the hot tub. Also the seasons were longer, and I can't stand that only 10 episodes is considered a season on Netflix. Seriously 😒 it's like wtf. That's not a season. That's 1/3 of one. Rant over.

Season 7 is the most underrated. It had a dark/gritty type vibe, the storylines were darker; even the color schemes were dark. I love the seventh season.

It was boring and I don’t remember a thing about it. The college storylines certainly didn’t help that season either.

Personally, I think the episodes in the aftermath of Cam’s suicide were so underrated. I feel as though longtime fans had already checked out of the show by then (I myself had only seen those episodes recently). That storyline rocked me to my core. On another note, the early seasons of TNG were very underrated because they didn’t have momentum yet. The show really picked up after the shooting.

Yes, I loved loved loved seeing Frankie fall from grace from racism issue, I wanted so much more of that because the difference between saying “I’m not racist” and actually unlearning racism everyday. But omg my favorite degrassi episode ever ever ever is the battle of the bands, always. I wish I had one of those Craig’s face on fire shirt! I used to be obsessed with Craig but rewatching it I’m just like whywhywhywhwhy but he was a great representation!

Season 10 is AMAZING

I'm only caught up on seasons 1-12 so I can't comment on 13 right now. However, I've been watching TNG since the beginning and stopped somewhere during season 11 while it was still airing. I always felt like season 2 was very underrated. Other than the Paige and Marco storylines (and sometimes Craig), nobody really talks about it. I think it's a nice middleground between the innocence of season 1 and the heavier issues that come up in season 3.

Related to you being in the fandom and being an old man, I feel like your an institution. I'm about to turn 27 and started watching the show in 2002, and I remember seeing your blog around all the time. I also currently have Degrassi Fangirlicious stuck in my head. Season 5 is underrated to me. That is the season where JT and Liberty had sex, she got pregnant, JT sold and overdosed on drugs... Turned out and Foolin' are some of my favorite episodes to rewatch. Plus there's a really great song by Canadian artist Sarah Harmer called "Basemenet Apartment" in that season that I listen to regularly. I can not believe how little people talk about this season.

I hated the racism story as a black person I have never seen a white person act like Frankie.

I think Degrassi Next Class is underrated because it is making Degrassi more new and updated and making it more fresh instead of the ongoing same things going on by the end of Degrassi TNG

It's when Emma, Manny and Liberty go to college and Clare's class starts. It has KC and Clare, Alli and Johnny, Connor, that principal Shep who called Clare a bitch, Alli cyberbullying Holly J. And also Peter, Mia, Jane, Darcy for two episodes before she leaves. I like this season.

I love season 13! To me Zoe rape case is very relatable and her trying to handle it but completely falling apart and thinking of killing herself with pills. Also I loved the way they had Becky be the one to turn her brother over to the police

seasons 1, 9, 13 are the worst from tng, from next class I only liked the 3rd season. But I have to say that season 2-4 and 10-12 were the best ones, specially 12 because of eclaire and cam storylines.
