If they wanted to start it now Jack would be the obvious way, although if Spike has not been on for so long despite Connor and Simpson giving her an in, guessing the actress has moved on which might be hard unless they say Spike and Snake got divorced or something. But he is the obvious in to do it in the next year or two> Even if they de-age him some to make it work with the weird timeline the show has had since season 8 they could get away with it. Spinner and Emma having a kid on the show is the other obvious one, but the actors realaly are too young to be believable as teen parents now. ANd even if you were to just assume they had a kid within a year of getting married and it was just never mentioned in their Next Class appearances (believable given how little we saw of them) and ignore the two seasons = one year they went with for most of the run after that time, it still hasn't been long enough to even have them have a 13 year old. Although the good news with that is, unlike Emma which it was well documented when she was born, Spinner and Emma could have a kid literally any time after their run ended and they could make it whatever age they needed to reintroduce Degrassi through her/him. So I am holding out hope someday Spinner and Emma come back, teenager in tow to revive the franchise (maybe with a cameo from Simspon and Spike down the line to further cement the continuity). It would be awesome if it continued. Although will be honest as I get older it is harder to relate to teen characters, so unless like TNG they brought some old TNG characters back don't know if it would draw me in or not, but just knowing it continued to reach teens of the day would be awesome.

My whole issue is the fact that they won't announce its cancellation and there's no effort to let the fans know anything. I'm okay with next class ending but I'm not ok with the fact that there's zero effort to make new storylines and continue the franchise. Because there's plenty of material and ideas to work with that don't rely on old storylines or old character development. I just want to see more degrassi storyline and have them help along this teen generation like they did for me when I was a teenager.

Well can't hate Degrassi for them not making an effort. Their hands were tied for a long time by Netflix still airing the show even if no new episdes were made, and they got to find someone to want to air a new show. With Netflix more or less cancelling it and them coming from a third tier cable network before in a day and age now where cable is not the asset it used to be, and the sad reality is at this time it is unlikely anyone wants it. With time that could and I hope does change. But Degrassi can't just say "we are done with Next Class... onto a new one" especially when the creators don't even own the franchise anymore.

Zana Music I don’t think many people cared about the latest graduation like Lola etc. The main graduated classes like Paige’s, Emma’s, Peters, Holly Js, Eli’s, and Maya’s happened and after that the characters were somewhat meh.

Dan Nigro Holly J’s class was by far the worst. But many new fans of the show did because it’s who they were able to watch grow up. It was the generation for new fans, I care even though I’ve been watching degrassi since Emma’s season. And even went back to watch DJH and DHS.

Zana Music Yeah I watched until the end. I think the show told all the stories it could and maybe it’s good it ends for now. I loved the 2001-2010 cast and even up until 2015 and the Netflix version wasn’t bad.

We waited 11 years between the end of Degrassi High and the beginning of The Next Generation. We can wait 11 more for the next hard reset to go down. From 1990-2001 there was radio silence in the Degrassi world, and we are going through the franchise's second rebirth. Have some hope.

Some of my favorite shows are non-american. There's just something about them that makes them so different and more enjoyable than American shows. Like idk, Degrassi as a whole feels more raw than other shows In the teen drama department. I even favor backstage over a lot of shows. I think American companies are afraid of pushing limits and every teen show has to have like... a niche like supernaturals or superheroes or something like completely out of the box. Sometimes teens are just teens with nothing extraordinary going on.

US (teen) shows have no authenticity and in general don't hold my interest the same as shows from other countries. Even at 11 years old, I watched The Eastenders, just to get away from the typical American-style television propaganda...

i was “too young”, according to my mom, to watch degrassi next generation so when next class came out and i was much older, i was so excited. ughhh i really dont want to see it go.

Honestly I was too young when I began watching degrassi junior high and degrassi tng. I don't know how I found it, or how much I understood it cause I was like 9 but I rewatched it two years ago. (My mom never knew I watched it on youtube so I watched no matter what) and now that I'm at the age to finally relate to it more, I'm sad that it's only now ending but honestly I was losing my hold on the series after like season 12 I think. I watched next class anyway. I still can't connect to the newest generation though..

Now that I’m the age of the characters in the show, I was really excited to audition for the show because I absolutely love the show but now that it’s most likely over, it makes me kinda sad

That is true although had Netflix promoted it a lot more might have cared. Netflix did next to nothing to promote season 1 and literally nothing to promote season 2. I have never even seen it suggested. I honestly am not sure why they picked it up unless it was just cheap content to them.

I thought Next Class was a very well produced and very well acted show. And I felt like it was a very smart and great way to glide season 13-14 characters (Zoe/Miles/Frankie/Grace/Jonah/etc.) into likable and better produced characters. Especially season three. Three was the best season overall, mainly due to how AMAZING they handled Maya and Lola's storylines. The show still has alot of potential and in my opinion I thought it was a huge improvement over seasons 11-14 of the original Degrassi. I'm sad to see it end. And honestly if Stefan Brogren is out - that pretty much says it all. End of an era.

Netflix keeps changing the picture so that's the last hope I have.

They change the picture in time for every show even ones like That 70's show.

I'm in between on whether or not I want this show to end. I feel like it should, because their stories have been told, there isn't much else to do with the show from here. However, I'm a huge fan, and I obviously want it to continue, even though I don't think it will.

There will always be stories to tell, which is why teen dramas keep being made. I find it unfortunate that the show fizzled out when it did. Given the state of politics in North America and young people's increasing involvement in them, I think that there were still plenty of stories to explore. I too loved that Degrassi was making an effort to humanize Syrian refugees, and appeared to be taking steps to increase the overall diversity of the cast. Ah well, I guess this means that Lola and Saad are endgame, at least!

There will always be plenty of stories for them to tell. Society is not the same now is it was in the 80's, or even when TNG started in 2001, so they could even tell the same stories from 10 years ago from a totally different perspective or outcome.

When Degrassi moved to Netflix I had a feeling it was going to be short lived. I didn't know if it would be 2 years, but Netflix so far has not been known to just keep their shows going for years and years and years as a rule. So I figured it would have a short run on Netflix and that would be the last stop. I was glad to get more but while Netflix in theory had the audience to get them more viewers then Teen Nick ever did, I was not expecting it. Once it showed how little they were ever going to promote it I knew it was on life support. I do think it is good it continued onto Netflix though. The last couple years on Teen Nick as a whole were well... not good. Next Class had it's problems, and was not as good as TNG in it's prime by any means, but it was better then the last couple years on Teen Nick and got the freedom to "go there" more then it was getting on Teen Nick anymore. So I think it went out on a much better note with 2 years of Next Class then if it had ended on that horrible Summer Movie Teen Nick closed out their run on. And while it was not a true finale the final episode of Next Class (or what ended up being the final episode) was still a better finale then what we would have gotten had it ended with Teen Nick. It is just a shame we didn't get at least another 10 episodes or hell even a movie to close it out like Degrassi High got. Degrassi was on for 16 years (even if it changed it's name a few times it was basically always the same show), turning what was a popular franchise from the 90's into an institution and introduced it to 2 whole new generations of teens, which took it to arguably greater heights then it ever was it's initial run and made it a world wide name and not a cult show that was fondly remembered by people in their 40's and no one else like it would be now had TNG never happened. They deserved better then to just fade away without a true chance to end it. But what can you do. It was a hell of a fun ride, and as you say, it probably will rise again some day, at least I hope so.

I'm thirteen but I've watched the series so many times since I was like 9 somehow. I would love to see a few more seasons of degrassi (prob cause I would be able to relate more) but after TNG the show wasn't the same. Especially next class.

As a long time Degrassi fan, I tried to like Next Class, but it never pulled me in, until season 3. Season 3 is my favorite season of Next Class, mainly because of Maya's storyline. So hearing that Next Class won't be continuing is kinda bittersweet. I really hope, for the sake of this huge fanbase Degrassi has cumilated over the years, that this isn't the END of the franchise. This hiatus is going to be weird because the show has always been on and now it's not. Still, I can't wait to find out, in the future, how Degrassi will come back.

realistically, degrassi: next class needed to be canceled. face it guys, it was bad. they lost the beauty of degrassi: next gen and plain degrassi ages ago. they’ve turned it into something that is a try hard continuation of a classic. they’ve tried hard to connect to the way they think teenagers act, and honestly, they failed at it. they should have stayed on the same path as they did originally, using people who were genuinely their character’s ages, and having things naturally connect to their audience.

From what I saw they almost always got characters who were around the same age as the actors. Degrassi with a few expeptions avoided the 20 somethings playing teens cliche.

Adding dogs to the "10 years from now we could be watching degrassi with our kids, adopted kids, cats, or whatever."

I honestly think Netflix wants to reboot the series into a more Americanized version, with American actors. Season 14 should have been the end of the series, because by that point, aside from some characters like Maya, Zig, Tristian, Miles, and Zoë, most fans were more invested in the seniors and their stories, since many of them were introduced in Season 8. Tbh, while I didn’t mind Next Class, Season 14 was when Degrassi ended for me, because I got the resolutions I wanted from the characters I cared about, such as Alli, Dallas, Connor, etc. Thank you Degrassi TNG/Degrassi/Next Class, but yeah, Degrassi overall is over.

90210 was the Americanized version of Degrassi and the show Degrassi is based off of Canada so it would never work

Not surprised. I figured this was the case a long time ago tbh. The silence had the same suspicion to it as the silence that followed Degrassi’s TeenNick hiatus and what did they eventually announce? That the show was ending.

Kary, you always come in clutch with the wisdom and words of comfort when we need you most. I shared this video on a Degrassi group and I hope this gives everyone a bit of perspective and at least some sort of closure for the era of Degrassi we left off with. I hope you'll come back strong in 2019 with as many updates or Degrassi related things as possible. Degrassi is worthy of discussion and debate. You are the King of all things Degrassi so I now I can trust you as my source for all of the Degrassi related updates and info.

I enjoyed degrassi and next class. I feel that degrassi next class was over in season 4 which was okay for me but the only flaw in this I feel like if there was a chance degrassi was going to be cancelled they should have had a back up plan built into season 4 to safeguard the show. I agree with you spemma would be a nice way to reset.

Im sad its over but honestly the older seasons are much better than next class. If anyone hasnt watched degrassi junior high and degrassi high, you should definitely go watch it! I did during the summer and it was amazing. It definitely makes some stuff from the begging of next generation make a lot more sense.

You know, if Degrassi was going to end, I feel like #KThxBye was a great episode to end on. It provided good closure for much of the characters - save for the younger class - and even showed a glimpse of what the future may hold. As always, great research, Kary!

Honestly the only thing I’m waiting for is the rest of the tng episodes to be fully complete on the KZread channel. But yea like you said, a hard reset is definitely needed because dnc as a whole just really never really appealed to me or a lot of people and it just didn’t feel like degrassi to me. The only reason I wanted season 5/6 of dnc is because Lola, the only good character left, would have gotten the ending she deserved

They can't leave $15,000,000 in real estate sit idle on the off chance that they will film more episodes of Degrassi there sometime. I think another video exploring that listing in more detail would be valuable. A call to the realtor would provide some information. Maybe even a visit to the site. Realtors would be happy to show the site, knowing that the publicity from a video might produce some interest from someone. The realtor could even specify whether office space might be a more profitable use of the space than would film studios. The language in the listing does mention office space, along with call center, automotive storage, etc. A realtor could also discuss the market in general in that area - helping us to form our own opinions as to what might become of that building in the near future. The listing also mentions zoning approval. Maybe a call to the local zoning officer might shed some light on future use. A competing realtor might give a more realistic opinion as to whether $15,000,000 is even a realistic price - thus indicating whether a sale is even likely in the near future. Most of this would probably involve less work than a regular video with spliced scenes from various sources and past episodes.

Started watching suring Degrassi Jr. High, and maybe it is nostalgia talking but I think to this day no one has captured teen life better and more realistically then Dragrassi Jr. High/Degrassi High. It was as close to what teen life is like as TV could ever get.

I just wanted Esme's story (Chelsea Clark) to have a happy ending/closure. Last we saw her, she was a mess. I really felt for her character and wanted her to get her glow-up soooooooooooo bad!

That was a beautiful funeral service you delivered for Degrassi, I am ready to embark on my longwinded painful grieving journey where I'll have to be hooked up to IV fluids because of all the tears. But just know Kary - JUST KNOW - that the moment she is reincarnated into her new Degrassi form, I fully expect you to return with your reviews and your insight. I thoroughly enjoyed everything you put out. Thank you.

It'll be sad to see it go, yes. I was watching it since the original series (and the 'rents watching Degrassi Jr high) but I'll always have the fond memories. Maybe it was just time because of the competitive Netflix series always coming out, who knows.

Personal I think it started going downhill when they left one of the only gay Characters (Tristan) in a Coma. I hate how the couple gets so hyped up just to break apart with not much screen time.

@@12mak I liked Zoe's story even though I am a gay guy I can relate. Religion can ruin families especially with a gay person in the family. Degrassi normally did a good job giving real examples of what gays go through.

I've been a Degrassi fan since January 2017 so I am still gonna be active in the fandom cause I'm not gonna let Degrassi go

Georgia Loughran watch Degrassi Jr high , Degrassi High, and Degrassi The Next Generation on KZread In order and then rewatch next class so it all feels new again and u get a new understanding of the show’s legacy.

I'm taking this Degrassi break to rewatch it with my 16 year old sis. We've seen DJH, DH, DTNG S1-S5. We're about to start season 6.

Like he said it shouldn't be cancelled until they have a real true finale to rap everything up for good

I hope they make a new show from scratch, I feel like degrassi has just been treading in the same place now for a while. Also your voice is phenomenal 😍

Thank you! :) That's always been Degrassi's issue...they always reach a point where the show starts to sputter and they really should reset, but they've built the show to just always go on and on. Hopefully they can fix that in a future Degrassi.

Teen nick ruined degrassi for good. If they had've let season 15 go ahead then canceled Netflix could've done heaps of stuff with next class.

I agree with you. I mean, seasons 10 - 14 had a lot of episodes and characters devolopments and a lot of advertisement and then they just simoly decided to do the biggest and dumbest idea of literally cancelling the whole thing up like what the actual hell 🙄🙄🙄

Oh, I just want to say my favorite Degrassi seasons are of course Next Generation season 1-9 but season 11 is where the production of each episode raises expectations, it has very good cinematography and story telling and by far the best character actor who could go far in his acting career could be Munro Chambers who played Eli Goldsworthy.

As someone who started the series on Next Class after stumbling upon it on Netflix, I think the producers did a good job of making the new season clear enough that I could follow the storyline w out knowing anything abt previous storylines,, it kinda feels surreal watching Next Gen and seeing Maya and Miles date for instance, but I only knew about it because of the season 4 finale where Miles literally says that. But I certainly didn't feel out of the mix, so good job on that front.

Netflix should not have even gotten their hands on Degrassi. Because TeenNick can't even air Degrassi TNG reruns. Netflix has all rights to all things Degrassi, yet only Next Class is on Netflix smh.

Yup, the Next Class era as we know is indeed over. If Degrassi comes back, it would be a reboot just like from Degrassi: High to TNG.

Thanks so much for this video. Even though Degrassi as we know it may have ended in a fizzle, the community is lucky to have you to clearly express what's been happening behind the scenes. I'm just glad that I could see my favourite class since Season 11 graduate and if Emma and Spinner can spearhead the next reincarnation of Degrassi, I'll be all up for it. I could just imagine a storyline where Sean comes back and in the end Emma would choose her husband -- and we'll be right there rooting for her when she does.

For me, Degrassi ended with Season 14 on TeenNick! I kinda don't like Next Class, Next Class pretty much feels like a Continuation/Spin Off instead!

DHX is terrible at renewing. Including Degrassi Next Class, many Canadian live action productions like The Next Step and Backstage take a year and a half+ to renew, yet they renew animations after months of release. Plus DHX is starting to become more kid friendly and I don’t think Degrassi is apart of their image. It’s a shame tho

Degrassi's just had some bad luck with TeenNick evolving to cater to the younger end of the teen demo in Degrassi's later seasons on the network to DHX being focused primarily on kids shows. It's like because this show caters to teens it doesn't fit anywhere. Also, I was wondering where Backstage has been...so disappointing that there's been no news on it at all.

I noticed that teen Nick, and Nick (+ Disney and most programs like that in general) are changing to suit younger children. There are more cartoons and more shows that are straight up weird

Crushed. But definitely not surprised. I agree that at some point we will see a revamped Degrassi. I’m 38 and used to watch The Kids of Degrassi back when I was just a kid. Watched every Degrassi series since so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. It brings me nostalgic comfort I guess.

I miss degrassi, it's my favorite thing ever. I really don't want to give up hope but it's over as we know it 😔

If anyone is looking for something official, Amanda Arcuri (Lola) replied to a comment on instagram saying Netflix chose not to renew.

Look how long it took for Arrested Development's 5th season to happen. Season 4 was 2013 and news went silent for years and now season 6 was in 2018.The Wire didn't air for a year between seasons 3 and 4. And another year between season 4 and 5.

My thing is if DHX or whoever owns Degrassi now I just want them to give character who were close to graduating justice. Characters like Lola, Frankie, Shay, Hunter & Yael. I really want to see the continuation of Esme’s character. Cause towards the end of the last season I was getting interested in her character. I just want just for those characters. And then if DHX wants to take a break from show than go ahead. That’s all I want for those other characters to actually get a proper send off.

Degrassi's almost always going to be in a weird spot where at least one class doesn't get some kind of proper closer. I think the only way they'd ever be able to pull that off is if they knew for a fact going into creating a new season that it would be the last one.

I'm sad that its possibly cancelled but what upsets me the most is that just as soon as we were about to explore Esme's Borderline Personality Disorder is when this cancellation happens. We need more shows with characters who have BPD and the minute Degrassi was going to do it something had to happen. It would have been a dang good storyline and different from the typical Bipolar/Schizophrenic storylines.

Another reason I think the show is done because all of the Degrassi NC videos got blocked on YT but they weren't blocked while the show was airing. An the set is for sale. Also Stephan said he doesn't think Degrassi has a future at an interview or a con of some sort.

Yeah at the con Stefan said he didn't think Degrassi was 100%, but he doesn't think it's happening anytime soon. There could very well be a reboot, which I think Degrassi needs, but it might be a long time before anything like that happens.

@@DegrassiCorner While a part of me liked the concept of Degrassi just continuing forever, new kids coming and going as new teens came and went in the real world. I do think it had hid kind of a rut a long time ago, and the freedom they got from Netflix got them out of it some, but I do think in theory a break then a comeback akin to TNG would probably do them good. Not sure that will happen, time will tell, but while I wish they had gotten at least one more season to do a proper goodbye because I think after 16 years they more then earned it. I do think it was probably time for it to end.

I don't think it's cancelled. As far as i know, it's on hiatus.

most of Degrassi's fans started watching it in the 80's and then watched TNG because the 80's cast had returned as the parents I think that's what they need to get back to get some of the TNG cast back as well as the others and have them be parents to students at Degrassi Community School. Doing so in my opinion would enable them to create some good nuanced stories that don't just revolve around school life

Degrassi: Diversity is very important to us and we always try to be representative of the general population. Also Degrassi: The main character every season must always be a white blonde girl.

I think degrassi is over period i dont think they are bringing it back. I think they should. Everyone loved it i never heard anything bad about the show. Its very sad

Honestly degrassi hasnt been truly good since fiona left. I absolutely hate the way the write the show and mainly the characters in recent years. You used to be close to the characters but now they are all just dry nobodys waiting for their next drug addiction or teen pregnancy

Nerflix seems very wierd with certain shows ending. Comolete silence on Degrassi but this isnt the first time theyve done this. The show Between on netflix has gone through the same thing. 2 seasons then radio silence. Not even a cancellation announcement. I dont know if they are keeping the IPs to work with them in a dofferent way or not but it sucks theres no communication with the fans of the shows. Edit: It is also a Canadian based show so maybe theres something there.

There was another Canadian show on Netflix they did the same thing called Lost and Found Music Studios. It had 2 season and they just never filmed again and said nothing.

Netflix simply kills off everything like nothing happened. I mean, I don't care about most shows but Degrassi is not just any show, it's been on for more then 3 decades. It's fulk of iconic stories, scenes and characters. I wouldn't care for them to cancel the show if only it had a farewell season finishing all the characters storylines

Another Canadian show is Backstage. They jumped from Disney Channel in Season 1 to Netflix in Season 2. There was no announcement of the new season even being on Netflix, and it's been nothing but silence since. What's with Netflix and these Canadian shows?

I’ve been watching Degrassi since the early 2000s and tbh I hated the first 2 seasons of next class but I loved season 3&4

I think 2019 is the last year they could get away with filming season 5, as the actors are getting older. I'd like to see them do it to finish off the storylines for the existing characters. After that, take a break, get everything behind the scenes sorted and then start fresh in a few years with different characters and maybe a few legacy characters (Snake, Emma, etc) to draw in previous viewers.

Haha! I was at that convention and I met them all 😊 it was at Fan Expo in Toronto. They told me to audition for the show (obviously just being nice). The TNG crew was super cool and down to earth

Well think about the gap between degrassi high and degrassi next generation, that was 10 years. So I believe that this show does need a major change. I was completely done after season 12 and just recently caught up with season 13 and 14 and next class and it felt forced and like the show was missing something. So this might be a good thing.

It’s so weird that Frankie, Hunter, Shay, Lola, etc hasn’t had a graduation episode , and we don’t even know what happened to Esme and her storyline hasn’t gotten full closure

Degrassi is such an iconic show. Even if they don't continue with Next Class, I hope they somehow continue.

Seriously? Degrassi has been "woke" since the beginning. They have ALWAYS been about inclusion. They had gay characters since the original Degrassi High, and a story about Kaitlyn wondering if she might be gay in Degrassi Jr. High (not main characters but NO teen show had gay main characters back thenm that was almost unheard of when those shows did what they did.), they have had a diverse cast since the beginning and have always talked about liberal and "progressive" subjects. Kaitlyn was a damn activist in the original series. Degrassi has been "woke" since the beginning they did not go down because it got "too SJW" hell pay any attention at all to the fan base and you will tell the fans of it were predominantly "woke" already. So yeah, get woke and go broke... in 16 years.

Tbh I don’t care for a new season. Sure I like Lola and would like to see how all of this ends up but I don’t even care at this point. I got my zaya endgame and that’s all I care about. All is well

If degrassi happens maybe not continue with the next class series but maybe a new and improved degrassi and I really don't think it's over.

I was thinking about this. lol. Maybe they decided to let the show like...silently end since Miles, Maya, Zig, Tristan, and Zoe graduated.

Degrassi Next Class was too fast. Teennick’s Degrassi’s season was 22 episode per season or longer. It didn’t wrap it up nicely

I think there was serious benefit to the Netflix deal rather than just ending it at Season 14. Next Class give Degrassi a proper ending. "Don't Look Back" was a mess, and this gave us some serious closer, since the graduating seniors had been on the show for quite some time before Next Class came around. Even though the juniors didn't all get nice endings, a majority of them were introduced during Next Class. So even though there are some loose ends to Next Class, NC gave us the proper ending to the "Degrassi" era.

I grew up on Degrassi TNG and I always thought I’d have a hard time accepting the day it got cancelled but honestly I’m not mad. I’m 28 and I didn’t like the Next Class era...but that’s more than likely due to my age and the fact I just can’t relate to them anymore. But I’d be ALL IN if it got rebooted like TNG! Spinner/Emma and Jay/Manny having kids in Degrassi would be the perfect reset

I wish Degrassi would move to Hulu since most of the crew are on Holly Hobby. A Spemma spin off would be perfect to connect TNG/degrassi/NC. I actually made a degrsssi next class word game if you want to see it.

When I first watched Degrassi in 2017 and first watched Degrassi Takes Manhattan I never shipped Spemma but now I don't mind them I really like Spinner and Emma yes I shill love Semma and Spane but I am ok with Spemma
