Looks By Naheemah :maybe they still have plans for more shows and just need time to find the right platform to excute a show that will gain enough fans to go past 4 Seasons they probably haven’t reached the final season of the overall series yet they never announced the franchise was over they just said next class was over but not the entire overall series. They could just need time to find a platform that will keep the show going on until it reaches the final of the overall series. I mean look how long from Degrassi High it took the world to come up with degrassi next generation. The writers of the show could still have more plans for more shows and Seasons and just need time to find the right home for the show and clearly that right home isn’t Netflix.

Kenrick Bautista Netflix contract with Disney is about to end so they had to cancel the recent marvel shows. The ones that are left are in there final season with Netflix too because of Disney + coming out at the end of this year.

I was an extra on Degrassi quite a few times for Degrassi next class. I haven't gone since May-July of 2016. That's been almost 3 years since they filmed season 3 and 4. It's definitely long gone now lmao

Met some nice people there, it's like an actual school when you walk through it and the food was nice too, everyone always talked about the food😂

It could still come back with a different storyline and different show with the same cast for characters who are left since the writers never said the entire franchise was over after Next class ended they could just need time to find a new home for it the writers could still have more tv shows and storylines in mind and we just don’t know what they are yet

in new series what ever name it is it will be continuation of next class just like deGrassi the next generation ended story caryrd to next class so I'm sure story will continue with new name and new series only difference is I'm sure new series will focus on new cast but have next class remaming students, cast as sub plots that's what next class did with next generation cast,students they made them sub plots and not main plot of the show

the lack of an official announcement is frustrating and even though stefan's twitter is technically one, degrassi, as a series has been around for 30 years (including the OG series from the 80s) and to have it just fall off the way it did does a disservice to the series's reputation. if netflix wanted it gone, then they should've brought it back for season 5 to at least wrap it up. another reboot would be great but DTNC had some good storylines going. yael, lola + saad, ESME and her recovery and seeing what raasha would do without zoe. the characters had potential and i'm mad.

They cancel everything and we're sick of it. Fans have a right to be angry, considering they don't even have the decency to at least tell us that it ended. Ummm, I hate to tell you, but when you graduate junior high school, you will realize that no...it is NO ONES job to lose money for you. Sorry your mommy lied to you, but you are NOT special, and the world DOESN'T cater to you. And never will. Without Netflix, you wouldn't have gotten ANYTHING past Season 14 of TNG. I wish they would go back to the old school 80s degrassi method, where they did it with real kids who came in their real clothes and hair/make-up and filmed it at a school on the weekends. The budget would be a lot less.

I think either Emma and Co need to become parents and it focus on their kids and it become full circle the next generation or it needs a whole new cast to make it fresh and new maybe on a network like cw or free-form

As much as it hurt to see Degrassi uncerimoniously end, I'm so glad that we got to see Season 11's niners graduate. Sure there was so much potential with the non-graduates (especially Lola and Saad!) but at least couples such as Zoë & Rasha and Tiny & Shay could be considered endgame by default. I visit your Twitter frequently and it was definitely a hit when you shared the news that our beloved set was sold. Oh well, if Degrassi can go through a whole hiatus during the 90s and still come back, literally anything is possible.

Maybe in the future there be more degrassi no more next class but hopefully a better form of degrassi sad Netflix didn't renew it!

Jessica Carter want to add look who far degrassi came it came from degrassi jr high and degrassi high and then finally degrassi the next generation so there were gaps in between degrassi jr high came out in the 1980s and the next generation came out I think in the 2000 something so there is some hope for sure degrassi isn't over.

Newbie KZreadr I agree I miss the original characters like Emma Spinner Jimmy etc. they had awesome storylines even though pretty much every character had a sad or tragic storyline too like JT’s death, Paige’s rape, and Emma witnessing the shooting. The friendships were classic then too.

Nect class was airing on family channel in Canada while usa got Netflix only. Wish it was Netflix only everywhere it would have been tv-14 and edgy

We already knew it was cancelled you're just making it harder on us lol.

For Degrassi to be successful it needs to be able to compete with other shows and a reboot might make the show feel new and new means more new people will try it, compared to the show already being years old which might scare people away.

Ive been watching Degrassi since TNG first started. I was 10 and ive always loved it. Im hopeful itll come back before i turn 30 in 3 years lol

I feel like we deserve some type of farewell special episode or something like that. If it is really over, I feel like we never really got to say goodbye because even though some students graduated-we were expecting more.

We didn’t even see Lola Frankie and them graduate smhhh

Degrassi Next Class really wasn't that great. I still watched every episode because I feel compelled to watch any and everything Degrassi related. I think Degrassi lost its charm somewhere along the way but I think it was before Next Class.

There's a lot of factors that go into the overal "flow" of Degrassi. It's also a show that, despite having been around for forever, it's always had its up and downs in terms of quality, etc. TNG started going downhill after season 6. They breathed life back into it in season 10, but then fan interest started declining again in season 13. There's also the fact viewers typically only watch several years of the show before they move on because that's life and it's asking a lot to expect someone to watch a show for 10-15 years and not get bored. I'm not really sure how Degrassi can maintain its charm for every viewer along the way, or if that's even possible.

This reminds of the Netflix show "Between" which actually had Degrassi actors on it. After 2 seasons and a cliffhanger ending they never cancelled it or did anything with it, and that was years ago. I wish they would just be clear. I think at this point for Degrassi to continue it would need a huge rebranding, new platform maybe, and the right money, power, and fan interest to bring it back. Hulu saved and improved The Mindy Project, I bet they could do good stuff with it.

All I wanted from The Next Class was to finish out the high school careers of the current characters and they couldn't even do that. This isn't even the only case where Netflix simply isn't filming a new season of something. Season three of Between has been "greenlit" for YEARS.

Next Class pales in comparison to TNG. I get that times have changed & the show has to evolve but, Next Class' characters and storylines weren't interesting enough to me to keep up to date.

This! TNG was really in tune with the issues of the generation where as NC seemed way to "tween" instead of adjusting to the new generation. Also I feel like TNG always followed through and continued to discuss issues while it seemed NC each issue was discussed only in one episode.

I started watching Degrassi as a lost teenager. I could relate to so many characters and what they were feeling or going through. I loved the summers where they would show a new episode everyday and would plan my days around them. As a mom now in my 20’s, I hope that one day my daughter will be able to have a show that she relates to.

The next class was horrible. Lack of characters you actually cared about. The next generation was really good. This version was just not well done. Lacked the heart of TNG

I've been watching Degrassi for such a huge chunk of my life, I'm not ready to let it go.

I really hope they are looking for another streaming service and that's why Netflix nor they have really said much about it. I grew up watching TNG and watched Junior High and High when I got older and it was streaming on Amazon. It's too good of a franchise to just let it die.

Actually, it was the very epitome (no pun intended) of professional. A show was losing money. so the professionals involved (the production company, the Canadian network and Netflix) decided to cut their losses. They don't own you a damn thing. Especially not if it means losing millions of dollars.

To clarify: the one day at a time controversy with Netflix is a little more specific than what you stated. Contractually they cannot move the show to another STREAMING service for at least two years. Netflix has the right at any point to veto any deals or offers made to pick the show up specifically for a streaming service. However if Netflix chose they could also allow them to move. The restrictions on being picked up by a regular cable network are much shorter and lenient, somewhere around six months most likely. I’d imagine degrassi had a similar contractual clause. That being said if a network wanted to pick them up it probably wouldn’t be that hard but if I’m not mistaken in another video you talked about before season 15 was scrapped they were looking to moving to streaming services in the future. It could be that they are making the choice not to move to a regular cable network if they see their future being strictly with streaming services. Just speculation but definitely a possibility and interesting to think about Also #saveodaat

Someone said they sold the school set... if that's true then they cant even bring it back rebooted because the school set we have all come to know and love over the years is gone. I grew up watching the old old degrassi, and then watched the new stuff whenever it was on TV even though I was far too old to relate to any of it as I'd been out of highschool for a number of years by then. I just liked how it touched on real issues young teens faced and never did it in a nonsensical way. I will say the last 2 seasons on Netflix seemed rushed and not very cohesive though. It's a shame they didnt give their fan base ( some parents themselves now) a statement or anything.

if they bring it back they would have to have some reason why the old location closed. Schools switch locations in real life so it's not too far-fetched. Will still suck to not return to the set we all know and love, but I still firmly believe this series will return at some point later in our lives.

I’ve literally been waiting until I was old enough to audition for the show (I’m now a senior in high school) I got an acting agent and everything😭still going auditions tho but hopefully one day I’ll get a email on a reboot and a new cast because I’d love to audition

Back in 2015 2016 we had the exact same thing happen, everyone was saying RIP degrassi it was a good run but then not even a week later they announced Degrassi on Netflix.

Newbie KZreadr that’s true but it’s also Canada in general. The TNG years were sort of PC but nothing like this. The 2004 episode about abortion was permanently banned from TV in the US bc it’s controversial. There were always gay characters and some tough storylines but people weren’t like the are now.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of this show but this pisses me off. I think it’s disrespectful AF to the fans of Netflix to not even announce the cancelation of the show. If they wanted to cancel it, why not announce it? I literally don’t understand why they haven’t announced it. Why keep fans in the dark for so long? It’s so stupid.

Lola started as a stereotype, but was the ONE female character on the show to actually EVOLVE, rather than devolve like all the others. By the end, she was the least stereotypical female character in like 10 seasons of the show.

it's sad that they're not officially announcing the ending, what's the point of keeping so quiet about it? i honestly don't want the franchise to end because i started watching it back when i was 13 or 14 (i'm turning 21 this year) and it really was a lifeline for me with such relatable characters and storylines. i do have faith that it will find a way to come back somehow - i mean, it was off air during the 90s and then came back with the next generation, so who's to say that it won't return in 10 years, haha.

Degrassi has been over. Next class isn't up to par when it comes to standards.

Really disappointing a great franchise could be potentially over. I agree they did not get a chance to completely start over and make a new name for themselves. Everyone who was not a big fan of the show said in the comments, what happened to Emma and Manny? I was like ??? It's 2019 they beeeennnn graduated lol so people did not get a chance to grow and see new characters and it be set around those characters.

To me it became less realistic high school and more soap opera-ish. I wanted them to actually talk about students having school projects and having their first period and first crush. Everything just went right to sex soon as the freshmen got into the school year. I wanted more of innocence in the show.

I'm gonna miss seeing Spencer Macpherson as Hunter😍. He's my fave and I wish that they would've did one more season so we could see him and the others graduate😭

I think it’s unfortunate they haven’t been upfront about the fate of the show, but the truth is that Netflix probably doesn’t know themselves. It’s an extremely valuable property if handled correctly. Given the popularity of shows like Riverdale and Sabrina (to a degree On My Block and 13 Reasons Why), I’m betting Netflix is trying to figure out how to channel that energy into Degrassi. I feel like if the show resets, it has the potential to rise back to the popularity it once had.

Unpopular opinion but Netflix doesn't really need to announce it. I'm pretty sure I remember reading on a cancellation website that it was over. And honestly everybody knows that it is over at this point. No one is dumb. My thought process is they're either planning something in terms of a franchise reboot, or the more likely option is that they just don't feel like it's neccesary to announce it at this point because it'd just be late term, telling everybody what they already know.

Netflix does a bad job of communicating with its fans and keeping them updated regarding shows. If the show isn’t as popular as a Stranger Things, or whatever else, don’t expect communication from Netflix.

I totally understand why it happened this way, but doesn’t stop the sad feeling it gives me.

The girl who played Goldi went you on youtube a few weeks ago and said there's no activity happening in the Degrassi universe right now but then again there really is no such thing as "done" because Netflix or any other network could change their mind at any time. Degrassi has been rebooted probably 5 or so times since 1979. It will be back.

In my opinion they did. The last episode Sean was in before he departed for the military is the last official episode for me

Honestly, netflix is a coward for not announcing the cancellation. There was no reason to kill it, nor was there even a reason not to announce the cancellation. I'm okay with next class being over, I just want the franchise to continue because there are too many storylines that need to be resolved and open ideas that should be explored.

I been rewatching degrassi .. I really didnt wanted it to end ...

I really wish they would just definitively say it is over. It's too late to do a final season because of the age of the actors, but a two sentence statement from Netflix is really needed.

Degrassi couldve kept going if they hadn't pussed out on every issue they talked about. They tried too hard to tackle tough issues without "going there" to be like family friendly or something? Degrassi: TNG actually had some edge to it but TNC was a watered down mess.

Before anyone says they didnt puss out go watch any later season of TNG and compare it to its teaser trailer. They constantly hint something tragic will happen then dont deliver. The way the show ended was a complete dissapointment.

Honestly this such a tragedy. This show touched real life topics for teens

I grew up with this show. Time to go re-watch it again ^.^

They need to officially say something so the fans can have some closure

I hope we will get a new Degrassi series with a new format episode-wise. It makes sense since we had a class graduate ^^ I do feel sad that we will probably have to say goodbye to the current characters that did not graduate yet

I mean obvi it can't continue from where it is now, but i believe it's going to reincarnate again somehow.

@Katie of the Night I’m not all that sad. The social justice was getting way out of hand. Everything was considered triggering or offensive. And a lot of the storylines were rushed. Yael became transgender overnight and expected her boyfriend to accept it right away. It’s just unrealistic. And a lot of issues that were already tackled in the previous seasons were being repeated and became frivolous. The senior class graduated and that’s enough closure for me.

Didn't Degrassi next generation came like 10 years after Degrassi high? I will keep hope. Rewatching it all, including degrassi Junior Hugh & High which I haven't seen before.

It's frustrating no one will tell us anything. What's the point of keeping it a secret like this?

I was reading an article about the ODaaT thing and it said that while Sony owns the show, Netflix gets to veto the show being sold to another network for two years following its cancellation. All of the articles I've read make it sound like cancellation is necessary, so that, for example, Sony can't just up and decide to sell to CBS while Netflix is still producing the show. So if a show has to be cancelled for it to be an option to be picked up elsewhere, then Netflix is probably not commenting on purpose. They definitely have plans for the show, or at least plan to have plans for it. I don't think it's over, I'm guessing at some point in the future when they have a good plot and are able to work some past characters (and actors) in they'll reboot.

I've been watching degrassi for a while now. I was 10 and thought i'd give it a try. I started with DJH and then went my way through the series. Now I'm 13 (almost 14) and I hope that someday they reboot it as a new thing.

Would love to see a longer take on this. Not sure why but everytime I hear u talk abt this I get goosebumps

Degrassi will never end. Even is Next Class is over there will be another Degrassi. 80's Degrassi ended and was brought back with Next Generation,

Teennick ruined degrassi if they had let season 15 air. Netflix could've just focused on Hunter and Frankie's grade.

With the way Netflix has been handling shows as of late I don’t see them getting very much original programming because of the two year clause on their shows. All the marvel shows have yo wait the two years as well. So this pause with degrassi makes more sense now. I guess they just couldn’t say they had to wait two years.

if they wanted to do something like rebooting degrassi with a child (like spike/emma obviously) they could do that with Mia’s kid bc if anyone else had a child that would take so long to get them old enough

That would be a good idea. I think Isabella is high school age. Maybe Mia is modeling in town and Degrassi is the nearest school.

My parents grew up with degrassi junior high and the kids of degrassi street and I grew up with the next generation I’ve watched this show religiously on tv since 2004 (I was 6 lolll) all the way until 2017 with the last season of next class ( I was 19) I’ve seen all the episodes prior to 2004 as well on KZread and such & all I can say is if they actually never bring it back it’s actually heartbreaking truly a show like no other in my opinion and I’d love for in like 10 years i can watch this with my potential future kids like for real times have evolved but this show is truly something else ❤️

I really hope they continue making more seasons smh

I really wish they had it finish with us fans knowing and the new degrassi could be good but they need to bring back like Esme and them to keep the show going and then they can build new characters we love I just want everything to be good and hope that it returns

I watched the original Degrassi (DJH and DH) from the 80s to early 90s. Once they ended that Degrassi it wasn’t til the early 2000s roughly they did DNG. Than they kept it flowing a bit (Season 10 into Next Class), not like the originals but still worthy of the Degrassi name. I think they’ll come back for sure.

Ugh it was obvious but us fans had hope. What about Degrassi:Millennials following Emma Spinner etc?

If Netflix insists on being in the habit of cancelling beloved shows, they need to be much more frank about it. It's disrespectful to just leave years of unresolved hope.

I think DHX Media is planning to end the Degrassi series as whole and Stephen Brogan was referring to that or they're taking the show off of Netflix and they are going to do a hard reset of the whole series as a whole going all the back to "The Kids of Degrassi Street", "Degrassi Jr High", "Degrassi High", "Degrassi The Next Generation", and "Degrassi". Though I think they should try and get as many of the TNG cast members as possible and have them return to the show as parents, teachers, etc..

Im still in such denial oh God. I’m so upset 😭 😩. I was so hopeful there would be another season. I occasionally re watched the last season available to make sure I didn’t forget anything.

I'll be happy to see Degrassi go to another streaming service. Netflix didn't give it enough episodes per season. You could finish one season in like 6 hours! I'd love to see Hulu or Amazon Prime pick it up or maybe an actual TV channel but it needs that reboot. I'd love to see another Trans character,Adam didn't get enough screen time.

Whenever they announce a new degrassi series I'm auditioning! I may be of age but I look 16 with a clean shaven face lol I can at least play a senior! I just wanna be on the show

I realize they may not have had a choice but the worst thing that happened to the franchise was moving to Netflix. I miss the days of it being a weekly series, save for those few summer editions where it ran nightly for a few weeks. Boiling Points or something like that.

I’m with so many other people in the comments annoyed and really disappointed Netflix hasn’t said anything regarding the fate of Degrassi: Next Class. There have been other shows that have taken a long time to get more seasons out like The OA, Dark, The End of the F***** World, etc. But Netflix has always been upfront in saying here will be a new season and they’re working on it, while everything with Next Class has just been limbo. Stefan made that tweet and a few weeks back Amanda Arcuri (Lola) said on her Instagram Netflix opted not to renew the series, so I’m not sure why they would say it’s ended if Netflix hasn’t actually ended it. I don’t know if the fact it’s on Netflix in the us while it aired on the family channel in Canada played a part, but it’s just really strange no one from Netflix can give us a straight answer towards the fate of the series. That being said, this franchise has been around so long that I don’t see it ever being gone completely and will await to see if there’s a new iteration sometime in the future.

See I've been a fan from episode 1 of the next generation, I continued to watch as it switched over to next class. I'm a little disappointed that they left the show completely with cliff hangers and so much happening with characters. Will always be a fan of degrassi and hope they find something new to come up with.
