WE WERE ALL FROM CHICAGO SOUTH SUBURBS, HARVEY, PHOENIX AND MARKHAM, AND EVEN WENT TO THORNTON HS WITH CHUCK BARKSDALE'S YOUNGER BROTHER. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! AND YEARS LATER MOST OF US ARE STILL PLAYING MUSIC IN OUR 70S. GREAT DOCUMENTARY, THANX!!!

The Temptations is a better movie, but the 5 Heartbeats had a better story. I know that Robert Townsend had alot of constraints around the development and funding for the 5 Heartbeats. But it DEFINITELY set the tone for the Temptations as a movie. Both are classics overall.

Many groups from that era were underrated. They didn't receive their true flowers until they got older or frankly had passed away. Their version of "Oh, What a Night" was their best record to me, but I also bought "Bossa Nova Bird" on Argo Records (same label as Etta James) when I was a kid and mowing lawns in order to buy my 45s. Their sound was great soul, but kind of kept them relegated to the R+B chart instead of the Hot 100 pop chart as you can see from the chart positions indicated in this video. Great group. Too bad they didn't go to Motown and get HDH to write them a monster hit like they did for the 4 Tops.

I have great memories about the Mighty Mighty Dells. I went to Thornton High School (TTHS) too, and was a few years behind them. I was there with Chuck Barksdale's younger brother, Henry, and he He was going with my sister. When he came over, we would sing Dells songs together (he can sing, too) and he eventually married my sister and meanwhile I followed The Dells record for record. I think that one of the worst things that happened to them was the untimely death of Charles Stephney. He was a true force at Cadet, working with Ramsey Lewis, The Rotary Connection and others. My niece still remembers the family atmosphere they had with backyard Bar B Qs and the folks who used to come over. Marilyn McCoo (5th Dimension) remembered her many years later in Houston and talked to her about the good times with The Dells. Their unity was unique; they were truly like brothers who grew up together.

But I can say the Dells and The Temptations were a group I wouldn't ever miss a show I would stay and watch them over and over again. Wasn't when after the show you had to leave. you could stay as long as you wanted. Those were the days. But IMO the temptations Movie was more of a real life movie.

In my opinion The story of the Temptations was the best, the 5 Heartbeats was a good story also but not all was the truth. The story of the Temptations was true up to a point and that was the way David Ruffin had passed away. The Dells were a fabulous group and I love their songs" Stay in my corner" and " Give your baby a Standing Ovation" those are my two favorite songs. May all of The Dells Sleep In Peace, gone but never ever forgotten. We still listen to the songs from the 50's 60's and 70's and very proud of those songs!!!❤🙏

Stay in my corner what’s the best song at the Dells ever made that song with platinum I love that song. It’s the way Howell that vocalist held his voice and held it for so long. That was the best part of the whole song.
