If her parrot develops any behavioral issue, like plucking, screaming constantly or biting her, we will see how much she truly "loves" her bird. Because her "abuse" was before she realized that just stroking a bird on the back, like petting a cat or dog, is sexual to birds. I think it's ridiculous that people are still giving her sh*t and focusing on this one aspect when as soon as she found out, she quit. BTW, petting a bird isn't abuse. Talk about zero perspective. She wasn't rubbing it's genitals to completion or anything even close to that. She was doing something that can be "sexual" to birds but isn't inherently sexual, nor is it anything actually sexual. It just has the possibility to arouse certain types of birds but people leave out the part that it's generally sexual when it's another bird rubbing their head on their back and neck, not a human absently running their fingers down the bird's back. Jfc people.

as a bird owner, i can say that petting a bird like that can actually be very dangerous! arousing a bird can lead to that bird (if female) building nests, becoming very territorial, and eventually, laying eggs... contrary to what you may think due to animals like chickens, the egg laying process is actually very dangerous, especially for small birds. you may think "ok well if the bird is male, then no worries right?" and while that is true, most birds that are kept as pets, dont even have a concrete way to tell their gender aside from a dna test, which in of itself can be dangerous.

Adding some anecdotal evidence, I don’t refer to my cat as “that cat” I call him by his name, many nicknames or *my* cat. This has been consistent throughout all my pets, including my ball python.
