Fun fact: The movie is directed by Dave McKean, an illustrator for Coraline, Yawjak Paw, The Sandman and Arkham Asylum: Serious House on Serious Earth. So the unsettling surrealistic designs and color palettes makes a whole lot of sense if you know who was behind it.

I adore the humor in this movie! "I'll never forget him. He was my best mate. Oh well onwards and upwards!" "Have you known him long?" "Who?"
I thought this movie didn't exist. I only remembered one thing about a movie, it being 'a giant being that talks slowly and gets taken over by darkness', and no matter where I looked, I couldn't find anything regarding it. As I watched this video, and it got to the scene with the giant beings, a switch clicked in my brain and I was like 'no fucking way'. This solved a massive question that had been in my head for countless years

I love when that happens. I had a similar experience with an old video game based on Clue but it was more of a point and click puzzle solving adventure game. I searched for it for years and years with no clue what it was only for Brutalmoose to come out with a recent livestream on his second channel where he played the very game I was starting to think had only been a fever dream from my point and click adventure days as a child.

I love how one giant is perpetually falling and the other one is anti gravity , so they both need each other so they can stay in place. One without the other cannot exist. I was heartbroken seeing them get separated. IT'S A LOVE STORY OKAY 😂

God, I loved this movie as a kid. Makes me wish people still made just completely nutty insane movies like this nowadays.
MirrorMask is honestly one of my favorite movies from my childhood. The director is one of my favorite artists Dave McKean, who is very well known for collaborating with Neil Gaiman.
I actually love Mirrormask. I first discovered it within a DVD box set accompanying The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth at Best Buy, several years back, and even though I watchex the two better known films many time as a kid, I have definitely watched Mirrormask more times than the other 2 put together as an adult. It just speaks to me.

Thanks for confirming that I, in fact, did *NOT* hallucinate this movie when I was 14. Sometimes, it visits me in my nightmares. I remember nothing of the plot... only the vibe, & that colorless, yet somehow piss-tone vignette

I remember my friend showing me this movie many years ago. I'd never seen anything like it before; it's so trippy and surreal, it scared me a few times! I watched it again not too long ago, and it's still one of my favorite unique, creepy, surreal fantasy movies. And of course the story was written by Neil Gaiman; he's involved in every movie/show I like, I swear...

Peeta Jones! I missed these skits so much!
I randomly found this movie at my library like 20 years ago. I had not seen many movies similar to it, like Dark Crystal or Labyrinth. This movie is why I later saw those movies. Love it.
I’m so happy to see others finding this movie!
Found this on a dusty shelf at a store that no longer exists. Watching this made me realize how much this movie influenced me in later life, haha.
My comfort movie :) my mom and my grandma used to sing the “why do birds suddenly appear” song to me when I was a kid
so cool hearing you talk about mirrormask! this movie's been one of my favorites for years now, glad you're getting the word out :]
Holy SHIT I thought this movie WAS a fever dream from my childhood until you reviewed it. My mind is broken right now that this actually exists!!!
OH MY GOD IT'S MY FAV MOVIE I GREW UP WITH I always loved how odd it was and how literally it took everything. And I feel like this whole dream logic stuff is what I vibed with particularly well as a kid. Because the real world around me didn't really make sense, and in contrast this somehow did. Plus it's just rly wholesome? It's like a rly tiny story, idk, gives me a very homey feeling.
You just unlocked a deep memory! I loved labyrinth and the dark crystal as a kid and my parents got recommended this film for me. I have no memory of the storyline at all, but I remember it was too weird…even for me 😂
one of my favorite movies!!!! i've been waiting for people to talk about this since high school!
Honestly one of my favorite movies ever! I'm so happy to see someone reviewing this!
I was easily frightened as a kid, and yet I loved this movie. Been a while since I’ve seen it, but it certainly is somethin else.
Saw the title of my favorite awesome movie, blacked out, hit play. Thanks for bringing awareness to this COMPLETELY wild film. Love Dave McKean!

I first saw this movie while spending the night at my aunt's when I was younger (like mid- or early-teens) at like 3am. Was just trying something to fall asleep to after partying with my cousin and it stuck with me, but I didn't know the title and any time I brought it up nobody has ever heard of it. Sick to see you covering it~

It's cool to see this movie get even a little bit of recognition. I grew up watching stuff like this, the Labyrinth, the Dark Crystal, & etc. This was definitely one of my favorites. I always connected to it's deeper message even when I didn't fully understand what it was about

1:53 ITS PETA JONES! Couldn’t be happier that he’s back 🎉😂
I love this movie so much. I was a teen when I first saw it and I had to show it to my friends. I even made my current partner watch it with me last year.
I am so glad you covered this movie it's been one of my favourites since we rented it out at some random video store when I was a kid. It's so great, especially the riddle sphinx
The Dream's mask bit caught me off. I have never been laughing this hard in days. The point of the mask and the singing .Ouch 😂😂😂😂
Thank you so much for uploading this! Used to watch this all the time as a kid but forgot what it was called and i only had like "screenshots" in my mind. I was actually thinking about this movie last week of all things
My local library has the novelization of the movie. Basically, someone asked Neil Gaiman to write "something like Labyrinth" so he did.
Thank you for covering this movie, I've been curious about it and it sounds pretty cool! Going to go watch it now, I love your videos Pig!

the transition into the add. the fact that you had to record and edit that is just...*chefs kiss* Also mirrormask is a fever dream and i love it so so much.
PIG! I commented asking for Mirrormask like 2-3 years ago. I'm so happy to see this! Hope you enjoyed the ride
24:52 This is a total niche fun fact, but if you watch Mirrormask in a dark room with only the screen for your light, the otherworldly vignette sections make the lighting VERY strange around you, adding to the weird/creep factor by a LOT.
I was absolutely obsessed with this movie in my preteen years! Glad to see it covered.
I love this movie not only is it strange but it also has a good message behind it if you get passed the strangeness and actually pay attention to the meaning. But the strangeness is what I love about it anyway it's great.
I was introduced to this movie when I was like 11ish in an art class on a random movie day. THE most amazing experience ever. The volume was too low for me to understand anything but my eyes had a buffet that day, and I had to go home and rent it for a year before i got it for Christmas. Bonous points for it being inspired by Labyrinth. The "close to you" song is STILL my jam. Thats when i learned that i love music box music. ❤
I swear, when I was watching your video of "Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart" I thought: 'If he like this, It would be cool if he made a video of Mirrormask' ... 🤣 I'm so glad you did 😁 And yes, Dave MacKean's artwork is a little out there 😂
dude yes, you're covering another cool movie you don/t hear about often. thanks man. i appreciate you.
I was obsessed with this film as a kid. I absolutely love the version of The Carpenters song used in this movie. It's soooo good!
This is a movie I've been hoping that you'll talk about ever since I started regularly watching your content so to see this when I woke up I was hyped!
This is my second favorite movie of all time!!!! I was obsessed with this movie as a preteen!! So happy you covered it :0
Remember watching this movie with my dad before he passed, we both loved the visuals and Valentine was his favorite design wise! We had no idea what the plot was, but enjoyed it anyway! Great vid :)
this movie is totally underrated. it is so imaginative and i actually think the vignette adds to the style of the film. there is no film like this. the closest i can think is the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. not sure if you have reviewed that one but its definitely out there in terms of style and plot. there is such a steampunk carnival vibe to both films that i just adore.
When I finished watching your Jack and the Cuckoo Clock Heart video I was like man I wonder if he's seen Mirrormask♥️

Saw this thanks to my high school art teacher putting it on for us twice, once for the first half and then for the second half another day. Loved it so much I immediately went out and bought it. Never known anyone who has seen it before. I always show it to friends, who are so weirded out and not into it for the first 15 minutes, but fall in love with it by the ending ^_^
