I was like 5 when I saw this but honestly I didn't find the movie scary so much as I found it strange and confusing and really depressing and different from anything else I ever watched but I was just really freaking sad at the end "huh why did every thing freeze, what how is he climbing the freaking snowflakes, wait did he DIE! wait nooooooo fuuuuuuuuu-" I think I watched it a few times after that to try and make sense of the movie but I haven't watched it since then but its been lingering in the corners of my brain ever since and I find my self thinking of it every now and then and then I saw this video and was like "HOLY CRAP ITS THIS FUCKING MOVIE" and clicked immediately

if i remember correctly either the book was based off a concept album or the concept album was based on the book - all i remember is out of the three the movie is the one that was made last (it uses the songs from the album) - so i guess they just tried fitting that one song that doesn't really have anything to do with the movie's plot into the movie as best as they could

'La mécanique du coeur' is like my favorite novel and when you tried to pronounce it i had an aneurism rapture. But very cool to see someone talk about this masterpiece ! fun fact : the original author (Mathias Malzieu) is also the principal director of the movie and the lead singer of the band (Dionysos) that made the music for the movie. So that's why everything just blends in so good. The ending is also very different from the book. it's kinda long to explain but here i go. SPOILER WARNING FOR THE ACTUAL NOVEL. So in that version Jack doesn't actually die and just gets in a long coma, pursues his dream to be with Acacia who is now married with joe, actually achieves it, but fumbles by not revealing his actual identity. Acacia gets really mad, dumps him and just lets Jack reflect on his actions and their consequences and they just go on and live their life.

The movie had a lot of sexual undertones The sexual undertones were there and even more so in the album I think than in the movie, most likely to tone it down for a younger audience even tho I would t recommend this movie to children. This movie was my favorite growing up and still is, it’s so unique and I loved it. No wonder one of my favorite games is Lies of P, and I prefer foreign films over movies made in the US

little tip to fully understand the "weird" moments of the movie, rewatch it as many times as possible, it will start to click after a few rewatches. I re-discovered the movie after a few years of just remembering it being a childhood favorite, and its still a favorite. The music for this film is my favorite part because it was made by an actually talented band called Dionysos (Dionysos "cameos" in the movie during the Ghost Train sequence, and the lead singer Mathias I think does both the English and French voice for Jack, not sure tho) Check out Dionysos though, genuinely great stuff. I recommend the French soundtrack over the English though. There was also a cut song from the movie called "Tais-Toi Mon Coeur". There's a music video of it up on youtube, and it's personally one of my favorite tracks from the movie's album. Actually thank you for reviewing this. You've been one of my favorite youtubers for a while, and Jack and the Cuckoo Clock Heart has been SUPER underrated and obscure for so long, I'm glad more people like you are talking about it and giving it a chance.

Hi! The scene in the ghost train is a wink to the writer of the book, director of the movie and finally voice actor of Jack, Mathias Malzieu who has a band called Dionysos. It the french version of the greek god's name and "os" is "bone" in french so the skeletons are a play on words. Also it was one of my favourites growing up (I didn't watch the dvd that many times but I know the somgs by heart). I am surprised that the songs are well translated and sung in the english version. Even if it cannot compare to the original french ;)
