I absolutely love Ricky.. he is hilarious! I just can’t wrap my mind around ‘adults’ who STILL BELIEVE GOD EXISTS! I think eventually religion will be history when people evolve enough to the point when human brains don’t require fantastical explanations about the history of existence and humans don’t need a crutch regarding death! I shake my head in derision at the ABSOLUTE FACT WE ARE ALL BORN AND THEN WE ALL DIE and yet some people require a fantasy story to make themselves feel better about dying! If everyone woke up and realised we are not the centre of the universe and our lives are just a blink of an eye and we WILL DIE, humans would enjoy life more and be happy because it’s a total waste of time dedicating your life to religion and an afterlife that ABSOLUTELY DOESNT EXIST! Religious people live their entire lives imagining a fantasy afterlife and missing THE ONLY LIFE THEY ACTUALLY HAVE which is a form of insanity! I do believe religious people haven’t evolved enough to grasp the concept of reality.. and feel so inferior and insecure that they need an imaginary leader to follow and guide them through life because they can’t imagine the reality, we live and then we die which to me is life! Sorry, rating again.. 😂 ❤️

I'm an ex Christian. I've heard every ridiculous explanation for the existence of God and the validity of the Bible there is. And they are so woefully inadequate, riddled with holes and intellectually bankrupt it's nothing short of embarrassing. If somebody WANTS to believe in something it's almost impossible to debate rationally with them. Even their confirmation bias doesn't add up it's that stupid. I "saw the light" by growing up and not being afraid to question things. Things my parents never permitted themselves to even consider. Now, I'm possibly the worst person a Christian wants to debate his faith with, because I know the Bible, and I know its flaws, and I know all the arguments before they even tell me.

I'm an atheist ⚛️ 😌 so I love this comedy! But...In reality, I see the Abrahamic religions (Jewish, Islamic, and Christian) as being the biggest reason for conflict and death in our world today, and it's been this way for well over 3,000 years! People believing in a non-existent god and believing that they are doing the will of this same non-existent god! Hitler was Catholic and even supported by the church either by fear and/or choice. Putin is Orthodox! The tragedy we are seeing right now in Israel and Gaza is a prime example of what religion, ethnicity, and racism can do. America and the west is hated by the majority of the Middle East because of our religiousl, political, and military support of Israel in everything they do. Most people don't know the history of the Balfour Declaration from right after ww1, or the Israel and Palestinian problems since 1948. I absolutely hate terrorism of any kind by anyone for any reason!!! Israel does have it's duty to go after HAMAS. But...our tragedy of 9/11 and the attacks by HAMAS is for that same reason. I don't excuse it, but I understand it. Gaza is only 144 sq miles in size. About the same size of Washington, DC. It has the highest population of anywhere on earth. 2.1 million people with 1.5 million living in refugee camps! It's been like that since 1948 or shortly after. 70% of the Palestinian people have been pushed into Gaza and the West Bank. They do not get support from the West and they are not large enough to start a conventional war with Israel, so they cheat! I very well remember the race riots I saw here in America in the 1960's. Did it help? Yes it did to a certain extent. We are seeing some massive responses that erupt over racism and bad cops here in the states and that seems to be an ongoing problem. As I said, I hate terrorism or violence of any kind. But the World, starting with Israel and the United States, better wake up and help save Gaza and the West Bank. Give some of the occupation of their land back to them! We will probably see these tragedies again, catching people off guard, until an approved two state solution can come around. HAMAS must be destroyed for sure, but the Palestinian people must be an equal partner with Israel for anything to work. I also think Netanyahu is completely out of control, and Biden should take one step back and tell Israel to get their push in a positive direction. Enough is enough!

Likely the flood actually occured as the result of an earthquake - sometime in pre-history, and the story was passed on for generations as part of an oral storytelling tradition before being written down as the story of Noah. On the face of it, it's an absurd story - but the absurdity is irrelevent to the purpose of the story. Ricky Gervias is deliberately missing the point for the purposes of comedy; but those who, in competition with science, force themselves to believe Noah literally built a big boat, equally miss the allegaorical nature and true purposes of the story. Before science, people would not have read this literally - but believed in it as an historical allegory, with implications to the nature of God, man, morality, suffering, hope and so on. People would not have had a scientific idea of literalism before Galileo; everything was a superstitious mystery before science fixed upon a cause and effect framework of explanation. This leads to Ricky Gervais athiesm; which he talks about in serious interviews - and so, I feel free to talk seriously on the subject here. It seems to me that science should have been welcomed and integrated into religious observance - but instead, I think it's quite sad that Gervais cynicism, while comically expressed here, describes the prevailing spiritual relation to existence in the West. Imagine instead, if the Church had welcomed Galileo as discovering the means to decode the word of God made manifest in Creation, and science had been pursued, and accorded moral worth as true knowledge of Creation. Biblical stories like Noah would not need to be defended as literally true - nor would they be dismissed as patently absurd. They would be recognised as historical allegories; a moral story built around an actual historical event. But instead, the Church put Galileo on trial for heresy, and effectively branded science evil; forging a stark conflict between religion and science, and forcing those to whom science is known as truth, to such atheistic, nihilistic cynicism as that which underlies Gervais comedy and wider philosophical commentary. Imagine if scientific knowledge and technology had occured as a proof of God's blessing; a cornucopia of knowledge spilling forth endless technological benefits developed and applied as suggested by religious morality; rather than science robbed of moral worth by accusations of heresy, a source of tenchnologies used by government and industry in pursuit of power and profit. It would have been a very different world, and we'd have a much brighter future.

He's wrong on at least two counts as far as I can tell. Nowhere in the Bible does it say the Earth is 5,000 years old. It doesn't say anything about how old it is. The estimates come from adding up all the ages of people in the Bible. But that assumes that every single person is listed and also that Adam was created almost immediately. The Hebrew word that's used is Yom, which can certainly mean a 24-hour period but can also mean a far longer period of time, just like we might say in the day of the dinosaurs. It does not mean one 24 hour period. Then there's the thing about the squid. I could not find it anything at all even remotely like what he's talking about. I don't know if he just made it up for the joke or he heard somebody say something and he's just repeating it or what, but seems to be completely false.
