    I’m 6’ tall 200lb and have an Encore 24” cruiser and recently got a GT Pro Comp 29. I still do 30 mile rides on the cruiser, and have a blast hitting underpasses and canals. Cruising with my honey on the 29”, and pissing people off downtown on the cruiser.

    FINALLY, I can prove to my wife that I'm not ridiculous for riding a 20" BMX at 43yo (lmao). I've spent a lot of time researching things (a lot of help has been from Phu's info), and I've found, that at 5' 11", 205lbs, size 11 shoe a 20.75 Top tube and a 13.1~13.2 chainstay fits me quite well. I'm likely going to step up in size on my bars when I get around to a new build (probably 9.25"), as well as shorten my cranks (probably 160mm, so I can shorten my chainstay to 12.9~13" and still be able to clear my rear pegs). I found it pretty amazing just how much of a difference a quarter of an inch makes. My friend rides a 20.5" top tube, and his bike feels so much shorter than mine. The rest of the dimensions on his bike are VERY similar (slightly lower standover).

    I just started my build for my 50th birthday next year, and my wife supports my bad habits. I'm also 5'11", have found that I prefer 20.75 and a 13" rear, I ride 170s and they clear pegs fine, my last frame was 12.75 slammed.

    KING IS BACK LESGOO!! I would like to know more about the size/lenght of some frames pls, guys! Keep in mind size/specs are ALWAYS important for what YOU would like to do, for example, I am 1.64meters/ 5'4 feet, for buny hops and overall better manuverability n throwing bar spins a frame with 20.25 Top Tube and 12.50 cain stay tube would be perfect for me, 160mm/165mm cranks fit me well too, I used to have a frame with 20.50 TT and 13.60 Chain Stay tube and dang it was near impossible for me to do proper bunny hops, my motion was exagerated and it felt like i was doing the whole movement in slow motion, with my new frame I have total control of it, we dont get too many bmx parts from america in my humble region so theres dudes who make custom frames for this, but dont worry, americas got the best frames and you can probably find frames n pieces that suits your needs, for example Cult's Panza 2Short frame is legit badass, im still looking for BSD Donnastreet at 2.30 size to finish my new bike, due to the size limit my chain stay tube cant fit 2.40 tires lol

    I think rider weight and how you ride (jumping and other high-stress manouvers on a bike) will determine the frame steel (and even size) you should go with.

  • @caffeine4130
    @caffeine41302 жыл бұрын

    Definitely an outlier, but us flatlanders ride some weird geometry. 5’8” with 18.9”tt, 25” bars (biggest I’ve ridden btw), and generally skinnier tires than the monstrous 2.4” I see around. But yeah definitely the message is it’s what you do, not necessarily your height/weight/age

    Great video, very informative!! it gives me a very good starting point. I am a mtber who just wants to get into this game, I am 6 feet tall with considerably longer limbs and tinny torso, only 155 lbs. My plan is to practice some street trials&freestyle(but won't be hardcore) tricks while on a short-mid distance commute, also can ride it on pump track/bowl/jump trail on weekends or lunch break, so an all-rounder fun bike that is ok to travel around within 5km. The bike I am looking at right now is a 20er but 3 toptube sizes, 21'', 21.35'', 21.7''. Which size do you think will be my best bet based on my purpose (there isn't a BMX shop near by, so I have to order online, so I can't try it out) Some comments says the size is very sensitive- half inch can make big difference.

    BTW ...height is really not as much of a factor as people think.. cause a shorter person can have a longer inseam as u guys found out in vid.. LOL also preference n feel is most important.. glad ur spreading that type of info about sizing.. I've had 6 diff mtb bikes in diff frame and wheel sizes and i wound up on a 29" medium now ..coming from a small n a small 27.5" ..and I'm only 5'5" and 120 pounds. the bigger frame n wheels just feels better to me...

    I’m 5’8” and on a 21 top tube now. I’d prefer 20.75 but 21 isn’t bad at all considering bars are bigger nowadays. Did have 21.25 and it was a little too long but I got used to it. I think a lot of it is just preference. I know a guy that has his own flatland frames called Tech Bikes and he does park stuff too on it. He might be a little shorter than me but he rides a 19.5 top tube. Kinda crazy bc I wouldn’t even consider a 20.5.

    I'm pushing 6 foot. About 240 lbs. Gotta lose weight. I used to love my bmx days when I was younger. Had a GT performer. Probably a 90 or 91. Looking to cruise mostly. Might try to hit the occasional curb jump. Maybe hit a trail. I want to get a complete. Something really solid because I don't want to get hurt. Been looking at both the WTP and Sunday 22" and 24" models. Figured that would be the best way to go. But there isn't a lot of info out there as far as the internet goes. It was kind of disappointing to be honest. I thought i might find some good testimonials or product reviews. I want to go complete. I'm under the impression that would have the strongest parts to hold my fat ass on the bike without collapsing myself into the hospital. My question is, going top of the line, which bike is the most complete? And who really has the better quality? Also if you have any fans at the shop of those 2 brands. Which really would be better? I just don't know these days. Bikes have come such a long way since I rode last. I just don't want to get a mountain bike. And for your help I might not mind going through your shop to get the bike. Either way this is probably going to happen. Thanks for all your help. It is much appreciated.

    Dirt jumpers are 24 or 26 inches. So 26 is good on the pumptrack. Im not sure about 29 though.

    I’m 6’1. I’m guessing a 22’ would work for me?

    I've been torn between a 16" and 18" bmx for my son. He's 44" tall and has a 20" standover currently. It feels like the 16" is appropriate now, but by the time riding weather comes back after Christmas 18" may be the better option. I want to get him something quality but trying not to have to drop $400+ twice in a year if possible. Open to insight if anyone has any thoughts or gone through this decision as well.

    Yeah, go 18, that thing’ll fit like a glove in no time. The WTP Curse 18 is a quality bike and lightweight. Hope he enjoys the ride

    Anyone make a 20 inch frame with an 18 inch top tube? I have an old Diamond Back that does but haven't seen many modern bikes that do.

    They may be hard to find, but I have a friend that bought a Haro Master for flatland with a really short top tube (this one has the twin top tubes). This one is 17 or 18 inches. You may try to look into different flatland frames. Good luck.

    There is not many flatland companies that make 20 inch frames with 18 inch toptubes. I mean if you really want to have those specs you can always order a custom frame from laird frame.
