As someone who has experienced bouncing off a 6’7 huge guy when trying to tackle. I would say it hurts 3x more than most massive tackles

Oh man, I still remember my last day of competitive rugby. Tried to tackle a 120+ youth national team guy (I was around 90 at the time). Almost static, aiming quite low, but the last things I remember is a blue sky and a free falling sensation :) Hit the field badly with the back of the head, blacked out for a few seconds, got substituted with an injury. Probably got a concussion, as it was really hard to focus on things like reading or computer for almost a month after. At the time, I just started to work as a junior researcher and decided to call it a day :) I just do not want to know how those hits feel :)

In the mid 90's I got to experience playing rugby in the Fiji Islands in the south pacific with Fijians. Dam what fun that was, they were so fast too even barefoot, the jukes they did were insane. Fiji won the 7v7 men's championship several times, didn't matter which of the 300+ islands you went to all the kids knew who Waisale Serevi was!

In the UK they had one or 2 years where both Union and League would share a player. A franchise would play both with the same squad, they’d do League in summer and Union in winter. Some Rugby League players left to play Union for more money, I think Jason Robinson in this video is an ex Rugby League player for Wigan. I don’t know which code I like best to watch, it depends how good the teams are? Some NRL teams can be very fast, some Rugby Union matches can be full of stoppages and kicking

I went to watch an Under-17 game recently and winced at some of the massive hits that young players who've been brought up on a diet of protein, Strength & conditioning, and supplements put on each other. It was actually very uncomfortable watching and many of those players are on their way to considerable injury later in life from those kind of massive hits.

@@wise__mind Different types of sport. NFL is based around a series of pre-planned moves and is based on 10 seconds of dynamic/powerful play (if that). Rugby guys have to run around while physically tired and worn out for 80 minutes - power meets endurance. Also, the helmets and padding (and rules) allow ferocious tackles in the NFL - remove the helmets and padding, etc, and remove attack, defense, and specialist teams and then you'd have something more similar to rugby and comparable. Imagine if NFL team was halved in numbers and that players had to play the entire game and play unprotected - they'd soon change their style of play and players. Likewise with rugby, if they had pads and helmets etc.

To be with in reach of such a title and to come where they were was an amazing piece yes but these fellas dedicated months of their lives to this game and for them too lose is simply heart breaking. A little bit like when you’re in a relationship (just try to imagine) and you spend hours upon hours of commitment just for her to turn around and say “oh I just don’t really want a relationship right now”. I know this whole girlfriend business is a little strange to you but just try to imagine the pain they are going through!

I have no doubt they worked hard, and trained like beasts, and to make it all the way to the final (without loosing a pool game, I might add) was a top effort and well deserved. But my point still stands. . . be gracious in defeat. . . what kind of example are they setting. . . Lot's of young ones are looking up to them, and to act like that after loosing a match. . . seriously, you think that is what is good for Rugby, or any sport? And your 'girlfriend' example (Still googling what that is, thb) How come other teams over the years have been able to accept defeat when they were outplayed, after also putting in months and years of training and dedication? o and BTW, our national food is Braaivleis en brannewyn ;)

These are soft hits by American football standards they look alot worse because of poor leverage, in the NFL they would be laughing at the dude for trying to hit while standing straight up not admiring the other dude because he didn't do anything a gentle breeze could've knocked him over like that, the much better use of leverage in NFL along with wrapping up and tackling in the most efficient way you could possibly bring another human being down to the floor without tripping them leads to the average hit looking less impressive because they kinda just cancel each other out but make no mistake these arent even average NFL collisions and the pads only allow the tackler to hit harder the breaks only allow the tacklers to run faster, and obviously the seasons are so short because the contact is so extreme they cant handle more games, the nfl had 8 game seasons before it got padding, and players still couldnt play full seasons because its just that much more intense
