Jay great start with Angelina and I hope others suggest the same as me and that is to finish looking at the other three songs from this contest in the order they were sung (I'm a Fool to Want You, Bang Bang and Summertime) as the growth between the first and last performance is hard to believe. It's actually her stage debut on TV (there are a few private even earlier recordings of performances in the recording booth or at public occasions). It was recorded November 2013, when she was still seven years old. Since the other three rounds took place from February to May 2014, she was already 8 years old there (born January 10, 2006). “Became a viral video online” means 5 million views within two weeks on YT alone (not to mention FB) - Norway had a population of around 5 million at the time!

"The reason I chose this song is completely random. I love jazz, but" Gloomy Sunday "was random. It was a night I could not sleep and my mother was stressed that I was awake long after midnight. Then I borrowed my mom's iPad where I wanted to listen to jazz on KZread before I fell asleep. Then came a picture of a beautiful lady screaming at the sky and with her eyes closed. I heard the song "Gloomy Sunday" that night and then I had to hear it every day. I love the melody. I understood well what the text was about because I know English well. Angelina was actually born 'a star'. Her last name is spelled A-S-T-A-R....no joke! The blond woman backstage was her mother Sara. To really appreciate this performance you should check out Billie Holiday's version of this song that she made famous. At the age of 7 Angelina is reproducing some of the nuances of Holiday's voice. Billie Holiday was the queen of jazz back in the 1940's and '50's. She is Angelina's idol and AJ has said that without Billie Holiday there would be no Angelina. One final thing...I think I speak for most Angels when I say that we like seeing the entire video being reviewed. A barefoot princess with a hypnotic voice. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on KZread. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. She is the only solo artist that I have been able to listen to every day for 9 years and never get bored. Even then I and other Angels were unable to predict what her EP OLD ENOUGH would sound like because Angelina is the most predictably unpredictably brilliant artist there has ever been. She flexes the colour tone and texture of her voice yet is always recognisably her. How is that possible? She is always exploring genre and all the great vocalists of the past. She is fearless, there is no cover she dare not tackle. She just reimagines it anew. She is a true artist never showing off. She strips back her performances to what is needed to convey the emotion. I'm in my sixties and Angelina is the first solo singer I've followed from her start about the same as you ! Every day I check in on the reactions to see who else is getting bitten by her beautiful voice and know she's got a new fan ! She's truly born to sing !

I think this was her first public performance. Seven years old, in front of judges and a large audience, nationally televised and she showed no nerves at all. She later said that she never gets nervous performing, just excited to be on stage.

The next performance is the judge's cut, without an audience. Singers must perform acapella, unless they play an instrument themselves. They appear in groups, so others are on stage behind her. I recommend listening to Billie Holiday's version, so you can really appreciate Angelina's performance. Someone superimposed the original backing track over her performance, and it meshed perfectly. There's a video of that on KZread as well.

She has something in her voice that you can't describe, but these emotions hit you in your heart and soul and the effect is, I want to be a better person and it fills me with peace. She is also very humble and she has a very big heart. You can see it in her commitment to humanitarian and social work. She has already collected millions for children - she donated all of her winnings from Norway's Got Talent. She also put a lot of work in before this audition to sing this song in a jazz style hence the Jazz Queen one of her early names She goes on to sing in many styles and genres but jazz will always be in her veins .You notice as well how calm, poised and full of confidence she is no fear, she just loves to sing for us, discovering and listening to everything she has ever done has been an absolute joy she is an every day essential, there is only one AJ loved by us dearly like our own family.💗👣

In all these years I have heard it thousands of times in hundreds of splendid interpretations and yet every time I see this first performance of his at the age of 7, it still moves me, as the first time, with that wonderful concentration of humility, simplicity, candor, sympathy and talent. Why does Angelina sing barefooted? Angelina Jordan is known as "The Barefoot Princess" or "The Barefoot Princess of Jazz," amongst many other names. She always performs barefooted, whether in front of a live audience or during a studio performance. The story is that while living in the Middle East, at 6 years old, Angelina came across an orphaned girl, of her own age, sitting in the street, weighing people on a bathroom scale to earn money. Angelina said to herself, "I would like to share her life for one second to know what it is like to sit alone, wet, and damp, and barefoot in a corner of the street." Angelina could see the girl's bare feet were scarred and that it was cold outside, so she offered her own shoes to the girl. Little Angelina says that she really loved her shoes, as they were very nice and she knew she would miss them. But she saw the other little girl’s need for them, which outweighed her own desire to keep them. So she insisted the little girl take them. Angelina called her Princess, even though the girl said she didn't live in a castle, but the ruins of a building next to where she sat. After sharing their hopes and dreams, the little girl said of Angelina's wish to sing for the world, "You will become the one you dream of and when your dreams come true, you have to remember the poor children without shoes; and I will pray for you Angelina.” Later that day, 6 y/o Angelina wrote in her diary, "The world is very strange. Right then and there, I felt as if a door in my heart opened up, and it was filled with lots of lights. It was as if there was, from Earth to Heaven, a staircase. I climbed the stairs. To be able to do something for another human - it was such a big thing…hard to describe really.” From that point on, Angelina takes off her shoes, in honor of ‘Princess’ and all the other less fortunate children of the world, who are orphaned, hungry, or in want of even basic clothing. Why Angelina always performs barefoot♥👣 For those who do not know. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina says she still thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate.
