It's extra confusing because it came 2 years after this episode, and I'm still wondering why exactly they said 'It's Gary' but maybe they were familiar with the movie already kinda like other callbacks to other movies they hadn't riffed but were very familiar with. It's likely just something I'm not aware of or noticing yet, but it will always be a bit of a trip to me so perhaps remaining in ignorance would be more fun than finding out.

Oh, and I also wonder a bit about the South Park reference years before South Park. Likely it's just a coincidence, but there is a chance that Stone and Parker possibly liked MST3K and used that very similar line for their infamous Kenny line that is said after he dies in every episode. Or maybe they're both getting the line 'those bastards' or 'you bastards' from something else altogether.

That chick is total representation of a tease. Shes all over the guy till he gets her outdoors, then she bounces.

Yeah I'm still a bit confused by it because The Mole People episode came 2 seasons before The Horrors of Spider Island episode, so there may be something about it that I'm not aware of, something only the writers would know.

@@wileyschmitt That is true. I hadn't thought about it. But what can you say? They referenced "Coily" with that waffles routine, and didn't get to the actual film until the last season.

@@wileyschmitt I think he actually said "It's Gerry!" and making a very insider reference. while they didn't riff the Mole People until season 8, it was a famous B-movie, and the design of the mole creatures were iconic and known even to those not familiar with the film (much like the Metalunan Mutant, or the Robot Monster, thanks to things such as Famous Monsters of Filmland). in the early Comedy Central era down in Deep 13 sometimes the Mads were assisted by minions (in a similar manner to Kinga's Boneheads in season 11 onwards) who were designed after the Mole People creatures, named Gerry and Sylvia (after the Andersons, the creators of Thunderbirds and other british super-marination serieses (what Team America was a parody of). so now you know. and knowing is half the battle.
