Market dynamics. Mainstreamers love small crossovers over sedans as a 'one-stop solution' to all their known dilemmas. Sucks that most brands are actively ditching sedans and fun hatchbacks for lame crossovers.

We have to remember that Mitsubishi are not in a good spot right now. They need to make their best to make cars that people would buy, therefore, they had to ditch the cars like evo, etc. Making crossovers and in quote “boring cars” might be Mitsubishi’s last chance to stay relevant in the industry

What if they made an "Evolution" variant of the Mirage or something close to it? I mean, the Lancer was pretty much a decent daily driver until Mitsubishi had the balls to turn it into a rally car that would give birth to the rivalry against Subaru's WRX STi. Though, the Mirage right now isn't well known for performance and it hasn't been justified whether it is worthy of a performance version so nevermind, forget what I said completely.

You can get a regular bottle of water in there, but a gallon jug or similar would be messy. A fluid pump or even a hose with a funnel also works. Or even straight from your garden hose if your water isn't too hard. Hope this helps :-)

Growing up I was always team EVO while I knew others that were team STI. While I could never afford an EVO myself, I did buy a new 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS, with all the upgrades. I absolutely loved that car and in my 11 years of owning it, I never once had to take it to a shop for something other than regular maintenance. When I heard Mitsubishi's announcement that they were canceling the EVO and the Lancer itself I felt so betrayed and vowed to never by a Mitsubishi vehicle again. In 2019 I traded in my Lancer for a brand new Hyundai Veloster Turbo and it's been great so far! It's smaller than my old Lancer, but man is it fun to drive!

I have a theory: Mitsu’s cancellation of the Evo is the reason why Subaru never bothered to update and upgrade the WRX and STI all these years. With no real competition, Subaru had no real incentive to make those cars better. So maybe we’ll see if Subaru revises the WRX/STI for 2021, which they were suppose to do this year. And Subaru will probably turn the STI into some quirky turbo/hybrid electric drive.

Everything you said before the 17 minute mark is true and works in my favor. It keeps the casual people away from this car, which is already rare to begin with. Many people will track or do performance driving with these cars, which is the way it should be. Sure, you can modify for show/looks, but as you mentioned, there is only so much you can do with a Lancer interior before it gets old/boring. No need to find an 8/9, the interior is even worse and don't even start talking about safety lol. I own a modded 9 and use it primarily for autocross or quick weekend drives to keep things moving. If I had to drive this thing every day, I would kill myself. At the same time, I would not sell it for anything, it really is that great.

Unfortunately car companies don’t make money because people think a car is cool. Mitsubishi has actually been on an upswing since getting rid of the Evo. I’m one of the loyal customers that keeps buying from them in hopes that there comes a time when they could afford to have a flagship car again. Personally, I’m a fan of their electric concept Evo. So yea

The downfall happened after disbanding from Chrysler, that's when their resources became limited and affected their cars. Should have stayed with Chrysler a little longer before disbanding, we could still have the Eclipse and the Evolution. Ironically, Mitsubishi is in an alliance with FCA/Stellartis again.

Regarding body roll, remember this is a RALLY car - meaning, an OFF PAVEMENT racing car. The suspension needs to have travel, and it needs to be able to move, to deal with bumps, ruts, uneven ground, and of course jumps. Obviously in stock form it's not competition ready, but those are its bones. Sure you can tune it for flatter cornering as a street car, and I guess that's what most people do, but that will make it worse, not better, for its designed use. Its all-road capabilities should at least be appreciated.

And here I am owning a very much modified 08 Lancer 5-speed with 226k miles and a basically stock 10 GSR with 86k that I was recently able to get. I love both versions and alternate driving to work and back roads with both. Learning the differences between both has been the most interesting, like the 1st (30mph) and 2nd (60-62ish mph) gear are pretty much the same in terms of speed even though the Evo has a higher redline. Also just how much of a draw the weight of the AWD system effects the gas mileage. I can definitely keep a higher speed using less gas in the NA (personal best being 37 mpg) vs. Turbo out of boost (best I've got was 26 mpg, letting traffic pass me doing the speed limit in Atlanta). But boy when I lay into boost even in 5th gear, the rush and how fast it picks up for passing is just so nice.

Regular lancers have a circular fuel door while all evos have a square shaped fuel door. It was also the first Evo developed for the World Market. None the less. Its a beloved sports car that isnt made anymore. It will most definitely be sought after in future and will fetch a high price when left unmodified and maintained. Especially with the way people treat these cars, its already starting to become a rarity to see an unmolested X. Just because evo 8’s/9’s had limited production runs in the US and thus more sought after, doesn’t mean “nobody wants an X”. There’s just alot more X’s.

It's actually the reason I got rid of mine. Just never liked anything my hands were constantly touching in that interior. When swapping the head unit with an aftermarket one makes it look even closer to stock you know something just isn't working in that interior. I traded mine (an 08) for a '16 Focus ST.

I always preferred the Subaru STI but the EVO certainly had some impressive performance characteristics of its own. But I can see your point about the last EVO had less impressive build quality. Because of that extra gear it took up more room and the gears weren't as strong as the 5 spd. There are people with Evo 8 and 9 who would swap the 6spd for the 5.

@@AvatarPuls No better all around. More reliable, can push out WAY more torque, bulletproof engine that can take mods (STI's engine is a joke, even stock ones had problems). Not to mention yaw control and torque vectoring were invented by Mitsubishi during the earlier Evo development. Ive seen so many STIs burn up after pitiful amount of miles, not the Evo though. And lets be honest: both cars were made to mod for rally, so comparing stock is useless. Modded STIs, while great in many aspects, need a helluva lot more mods to be effective and reliable, especially when it comes to the motor. The STI motor (comparing EVO X to the STI of that year of course) was simply built like a tin can. They couldnt take mods. First users were pissed off on the forums, took a few years for aftermarket to make upgraded rods and pistons to make the STI motor able to take any increase in torque. But they are different cars. STI is lighter, EVO feels heavy like a German car. But honestly, point for point the EVO is just better, and it was more expensive so go figure.
