The Meaning of Holiness: The Holiness of God with R.C. Sproul

We understand what people have experienced in the presence of a holy God, but we may not be able to define the term "holy" or the concept of holiness as it is used in Scripture. In this lecture, Dr. Sproul defines the word "holy" in order that we might see the necessity of holiness in our own lives, especially as it relates to how we use God's name.
This is the 5th message in a series on God's holiness by R.C. Sproul. See other videos in the series: • The Holiness of God - ...

I’ve been a Christian for 9 years, a reformed Calvinist for about two years. R.C. And many others are teaching me so much, even from the grave. God using their works to glorify Himself even from the other side.... what a privilege to strive for! Thank you Lord and RC, he is resting in paradise with the Lord forever.

Gods are real. Really. Don’t be so gullible. Do you ever wonder why Jesus never answers your prayers to save aborted fetuses? Do you think it’s for the same reason Zeus doesn’t answer prayers to save aborted fetuses? Or is abortion just your gods plan?

I always wondered why Holiness is never defined in Scriptures. LOL Now I know why... it's God's Nature, completely other/separate from all. It's God Himself, and the whole Bible describes Him.

Its good to read the Present with Religion, a book for free on the internet. The book is about the truth of life and it shows the full picture of life for the first time so that you may stop being deceived by the world and be able to follow the steps of Jesus and other prophets to Heaven.Knowing the truth is the key factor in our salvation. We must know the truth and live in it and change ourselves according to it in order to be saved. There is no other way to our salvation. With the knowledge of the truh there comes true repentance which means changing our minds and also true obediance to God's law and finally our sanctification which is a lifelong process. And God in His mercy will give us His wonderful grace which is the time and ability to make the proper change.Only in this way will we be able to attain our eternal salvation. Our task is to find this narrow gate that leads to God and do it quickly and stay on it till the end no matter what. Then and only then we will be saved. There is nothing more important or serious to do in this fallen world as our eternal fate depends on it.

Commandment # 3, "You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain" (Exodus 20:7; Deut. 5:11), means a whole lot more than using the G-D phrase in anger or frustration. The RSV commentary note says, "The 3rd commandment prohibits the misuse of the Lord's name in magic, divination, or false swearing (Lev.19:12; good reference). It reflects the ancient view that knowledge of the name could be used to exert magical control (Gen. 32:27,29; the story of Jacob's wrestling match with God / Christ). To these things I must add an even broader understanding of taking the name of the Lord in vain, that is, identifying yourself as a believer in a holy God, a follower of Christ, i.e. a Christian --- and living in sin! I used to think that in his affair with Bathsheba, David broke 5 / half of the 10 Commandments, but I now realize that he broke 6 --- taking the name of the Lord in vain by his sin of adultery all the while as the king of Israel and God's anointed. Nevertheless, David experienced the mercy of God in being forgiven, but let us not forget, God judged his sin severely. "Why have you despised the word of the Lord to do what is evil in His sight? You have smitten Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the Ammonites. Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me..." (2 Sam.12: 9-10a). Again, my fellow believers, identifying yourself as a Christian and living in sin is TAKING THE NAME OF THE LORD IN VAIN!

I think his primary definition of God‘s holiness is correct. It refers to God‘s transcendence, utter uniqueness, underived existence, etc. But for that very reason his secondary definition, that God’s holiness is his moral purity or perfection, is inadmissible. God is not a moral agent. That is anthropomorphic. God does not act in accordance with the same moral standards that we do, only with perfection. Rather, God just is the ultimate end or goal of all of our moral action.

Only Through Christ Jesus' Blood are we saved, otherwise we have no hope, NOOO hope at all to stand in front of God. Isaiah said it: Then I said, "Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I live among a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts." (Isaiah 6:5). Only Through The Death and Resurrection of Christ are we, know nothing but sin, are saved and justified in front of God. Lets hold steadfast to the Holy True Only Gospel of Jesus Christ till the end and pray for each other to be strengthene in Christ and look at His Finished Work to do His Will In Christ Jesus Name forever and ever, From from Him alone and through Him alone and To Him alone are all things and glory forever and ever Amen!

Syrian Christian Christianity is the continuation of Judaism, and Middle Eastern methodology progressed from the truth of God revealed to man in His word through Judaism (for example Queen of Sheba and Solomon, Rahab). If you read through OT you can see the progression of social wisdom (not that the Israelites were the wisest) under which is methodology - a common grace. Even the West (at the time, ie the Barbarians) became learned from the truth of God through His people.

See... you can teach eternal security without your emphasis being personal hedonism. As long as you try to live a godly life. And by try I mean walking in the Spirit. When you focus on license that's what Paul condemns time and time again. You have to see God's holiness to understand. God requires nothing less than holiness to live in His presence. Abiding is living in His holiness by the Spirit. It's teaching eternal security without personal faith that I just can't abide! *No, I'm not the one that's confused.

As a child, raised in a Christian culture, I often wondered why the Jews had a name for their monotheistic (one) god … Jehovah … and the Christians only mentioned the word “Father.” Now, I understand that the Christians tried to imply that that one god no longer loved the Jews, and changed his focus instead to loving only the Christians. I suggest that within theology, god theft ought to be against the law.

I Believe THE HOLY SPIRIT CONVICTS me about how THE MIGHTY NAME OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST IS USED in the evangelical and CHRISTian communities. Even in how it's written and how the translaters wrote it in GODS WORD. Romans 14:11 For IT IS WRITTEN, AS I LIVE, SAYS THE LORD, EVERY knee SHALL BOW TO ME, AND EVERY tongue SHALL CONFESS TO GOD. Philippians 2:10 That AT THE NAME OF {THE LORD} JESUS EVERY knee SHOULD BOW, Of HIS Things In HIS Heaven, AND HIS Things In HIS 🌎, AND HIS Things Under HIS 🌎; Philippians 2:11 And that EVERY tongue SHOULD CONFESS that JESUS CHRIST IS LORD, TO THE GLORY OF GOD THE FATHER. Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, LORD, even the devils Are Subject unto us THROUGH YOUR NAME. THIS POWERFUL NAME is written and used and pronounced, the same as any other pronoun. First letter is capitalized. THIS WORTHY NAME is written the same way satans name is written. 😔 pastors, preachers, teachers and HIS BODY like dr sproul, (in this very lecture, which is Anointed), whom I Believe was definitely CALLED BY GOD, does or doesn't do the same thing even though he's lecturing about it. It has never and doesn't now sit right within me. There appears to be very little REVERENCE TO THE NAME THAT IS THE KEY TO THE MOST IMPORTANT AND MAGNIFICENT GIFT THAT ANY Creature Could EVER Receive. I'm not attempting to come against whom I Believe is an Anointed man of GOD. Whom I Believe IS with HIM now. I'm just humbly expressing and sharing my convictions. Selah.

holy, Holiday, Holy Spirit Are all interrelated and come from the Hindu religion. The words are derived from "Holi" which is the great Hindu spring festival held in honor of "Krishna," the Hindu Sun-god. * Kodesh is the proper Hebrew word meaning to be separately ordained pertaining to the things of Yah'uah, including His invisible presence. Purified is also acceptable but kodesh specifically refers to being purified by Yah'uah not by the "church". Hence Shabbat the seventh day is kodesh or ordained as a separate day for us it is the sign that it is He the Creator who purifies us and we rest on that day. * Ruach Ha Kodesh is the proper Hebrew reference to the Ruach/Breath or the Spirit, the invisible presence of Yah'uah. It is the set-apart presence of Yah'uah. Hades

Do you want to know the truth about holiness? Prophecy foretold the Lord God will destroy the world for being unholy. Unholy means sins, unclean, defiled, and uncircumcised in heart. The Lord God built the country Israel to teach the world holy life. He sent the Law of Moses to teach the children of Israel about living holy life by obeying the laws and commandments of God. He sent His Son the Lord Jesus to teach them on how a man must live holy life by following the way of life of the Lord Jesus. Lord Jesus celebrated the Passover and all the holy feasts that are written in the Law of Moses. Now, religions as christian is perverting the teaching of the words of God. They are teaching that the Law of Moses is no longer required because they are free from it. The teaching of the Law of Moses came from the mouth of God, it is the foundation of the ways, righteousness and holiness of God. If you do not want to be in hell, do everything you can while you still have time to repent by obeying what the Lord God commanded everyone since the beginning of time, and that is living holy life founded in the Law of Moses, teachings of the Prophets, and in the Testimony of the Lord Jesus. Isaiah 5:24 Therefore, as the fire devours the stubble, And the flame consumes the chaff, So their root will be as rottenness, and their blossom will ascend like dust; Because they have rejected the law of the Lord of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel Jeremiah 6:19 Hear, O earth! Behold, I will certainly bring calamity on this people- The fruit of their thoughts, Because they have not heeded My words Nor My law, but rejected it. Luke 16:31 But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead. Romans 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law. The Spirit and the bride, Mount Zion, Heavenly Jerusalem, Gabriel Riah

😔 I'm leaving at minute marker 4: 32 You shall not covet the qualities bestowed upon each other by GOD; the men enjoy certain qualities, and the women enjoy certain qualities. You may implore GOD to shower you with His grace. GOD is fully aware of all things.

I don't deserve heaven. I never will. Honestly I know what hell is. It's not fire and brimstone. It's just "nothing". A human consciousness in nothing. When I die I hope my God at least let's me keep a pin needle of him to myself. That would be better than he'll. That would be better than absolute nothingness

None of us deserve heaven. Our sin separates us from our perfect God. The penalty for sin is death. And only blood sacrifice takes away sin. That is why God became human (Jesus), lived a perfect life, and allowed himself to be sacrificed (Roman cross) and die when he didn't deserve it. He took our death and hands us his life. If we reach out and take the offer of our sin removed and Jesus' perfect life given to us, we experience a new birth. A new heart. New outlook, new peace with God, joy. But don't take my word for it. Read the Bible for yourself. You can start in the gospel of Mark.

maybe he lacks knowledge about Sproul, but I don't think that word means what you think it does. I only heard about him about 4 years ago. I never heard of Ligonier Ministries until I moved to the South.

Dr Sproul is well known for his 'indepth & intense long study of the Scriptures and espository preaching ..He has gained a well respected reputation among the Reformed Christian Church and many evangelicals and has proven to be a trusted and Godly servant of the Lord. Our generation is very blessed to have God raise someone as himself to be a teacher and he is a very humble man!..There are many others too, Derek Thomas, Alistair Begg, Steve Lawson, Sinclaire Ferguson, Robert Godfrey, Voddie Baucham, Albert Mohler, Kevin De Young, John Macarthur and many more...
