The Sacrifice of Faith: The Classic Collection with R.C. Sproul

In Genesis 22, we read that God tested Abraham by commanding him to journey to a mountain and sacrifice his beloved son. How could God do such a thing? Could this really be His will? In this message, Dr. Sproul takes us through this dramatic story all the way to its ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ, the Lamb who was slain.
This is the 4th in a series of messages by Dr. Sproul. See other videos in the series: • Classic Collection - R...

Almost speechless. Brought tears to my eyes. How our heavenly Father must have felt when giving us His only begotten Son to die for us is something I don't think we'll ever fully comprehend on this earth.

I had to stop this video half a dozen times to weep... I don't know how his audience managed to not weep. I would have had to leave the room every two minutes as he told the story of Hosanna. I have lost many pets in my life. I loved every one of them. I also lost my youngest daughter - a daughter that I loved with all my heart for 28 years. I am no stranger to that pain.

What a glorious Gospel! The scarlet thread of redemption is woven from the Old to the New Testament. Third time listening to this over the years and not once did it not move me to tears. We need to be reminded time and again of the manner of love the Father has bestowed on us by sending His Son to be the propitiation of our sins.

Testimony: I’ve seen hours of ligonier footage and in my study today I wanted to go back on one these videos that I knew he covered Genesis 15 (one of RC’s favorite chapters and verses). But in doing so I saw this video. Closer to the end I teared up (sensitive heart), and can’t even fathom as to why he saved a sinner like me. This world is so wicked and evil but as I’ve been studying we realize that God is still on his throne. We realize that complete surrender to him is the ultimate wake up call to get stronger with him. Tests after tests after tests only provide us with more of his strength and understanding. The Lord Jesus Christ died for the sin of the world. I can’t even fathom when our savior was put on that cross how he felt knowing that the sins of the world were on his shoulders. I’m no theologian and I am no pastor but what I can say is that he was raised for our justification. Oh how high are the depths of Gods grace and mercy. Whoever is dealing pain. Whoever is dealing with sorrow. Jesus says that you can go to him. He says he will give you rest, and although your sins be like scarlet, he will wash them away and make you whiter than snow. For he that calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. I say this with tears in my eyes because we can never know the depths of Gods love on this plain. May God richly bless you with his grace and provide you with the knowledge of him to continue going forth in the power of HIS might. Amen

@Johan Strydom the point of the story of the accidental death of the child was how the parent tried to cope with her grief by preoccupying herself with playing the piano. every detail mentioned in the Bible yet with it's economy of words is there to tell us something and in this narrative RC is using the story of the child's parent to point out how Abraham must have been coping with his grief of the impending sacrifice of his only son Isaac whom he loves... by busying himself with the tasks of saddling the donkeys and splitting wood, tasks which he could have had his servants do.

The Bible says explicitly we could not be justified through the law of Moses. So Christ came and died for all who would believe... and I'm inclined to believe something more of limited atonement but I don't want to get into it. But people don't want to live their faith. So they throw off the faith of God and call unbelief faith. They're making the gospel too hard. Instead of embracing God, acknowledging God, lifting God up, and serving God as much as anyone can... because we still have to fight spiritual battles and sometimes from our view we're utter and complete failures.. so they throw off the faith and embrace the flesh because in their minds the truth that sets people free is too hard. It's only hard because they're trying to do it in the flesh and independently. It's impossible to be justified independently..see law of Moses impossibility. They're making it too difficult. So instead of getting help or seeking understanding they decide they don't have to hear God's call or obey Him in anything. And that's not what is there. Assurances are given throughout the NT but they're predicated on our willingness to remain in the right relationship with God. Salvation is for those being saved not for the wicked. Eternal security only actually works for those who have the God kind of faith and life.. which is sometimes riddled with failure but it's still different from apostasy or faithlessness. I've never encountered anyone in judgment who didn't have the underlying notion they were living in sin even though they've learned to live with themselves and ignore their conscience.

Hello there my dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus, I hear and read many words from you of Faith in Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour that when a person dies in this life and they Love and obey the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ ! ( its His Gospel and not from us ! ) . That they go in to presence of God ! Well dear Brothers and Sisters, this is not in the Bible ! This in one of many incorrect teachings that came from what the Great Apostle Paul, says in his letter to the Thessalonians “ there will come a falling away” ! But, about what he says about what really happens at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, “ the dead in Christ will rise first ! And we who are alive and remain at His second coming will be caught together with them in the air and shall ever be with the Lord, and comfort one another with these words! It is unbiblical to say that the righteous go to heaven when they die ! If this is true, then why does our Lord Jesus, resurrects His people and takes them to heaven at His Second Advent ? With all the translated saints ! All then go to heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ, when He returns to this sad world to give them their mansion in the New Jerusalem city ! And eternal life ! Let the Holy Bible be true and every person be a liar ! Its not difficult to obtain God’s truth from Gods Word, the unity of the Scriptures through the guiding influence of The Holy Spirit!
