One of my favorite trilogy of all time :) Before reacting to matrix 2 reloaded, you really MUST react to the animatrix. These are 9 shorts stories on the matrix universe who helps to understand it and to elarge the universe and the lore. Especially : -The second Renaissance : It's a matrix prequel which tells what happened between humans and machines and why the matrix was created -A kid's story : Origin story of a new character in matrix 2 & 3 -Last flight of the Osiris : It's an introduction to matrix reloaded, litterally a couple of hours before. Btw, matrix 2 (reloaded) and matrix 3 (revolutions) are actually a 4 hours film cut in two parts (they were shot back to back) and this is why they were both released the same year with only a 6 months gap. So to be more clear, this is the right order for watching the matrix franchise : -the matrix (1999) -the animatrix (2003) -the matrix reloaded (2003) -the matrix revolutions (2003)

  • @ploptimusgrime332

Not only should you watch the whole trilogy, but the Animatrix has a backstory anime segment that goes into detail on the fall of humanity. It's called "The Second Renaissance" and it is canon. Written by the Wachowskis, as well.

It Wasn't, love's kiss that raised Neo from the dead. In Medieval Times, when they cut people's heads off. They would ask the head questions, and the head would answer by blinking their eyes. And yeah I know how that sounds. But it was discovered that the head would actually live separate from the body for as much as 2 minutes. Therefore, it is entirely possible, that Neo heard Trinity talking to him after he was shot dead. And that her kiss, simply reminded him of who, and *Where he was. That realization; the realization that his Real body was still sitting in that chair; was all the information Neo needed to, "Get, Up!" That and... "Is that Air you're breathing???"

There is a huge rabbit hole of subtext in this entire franchise (which also includes video games, animation and graphic novels in addition to the main films)…the Neo and Trinity relationship is a critical part of the overall story arc. If you’re interested in really diving deep into this, I recommend the YT channel Matrix Explained.

In the late 90´s the Wachowskis spend lots of time in Berlin/Germany and were close friends with Tom Tykwer. Years later he was the co-producer of their movie Cloud Atlas. Whilst the Wachowskis were working on The Matrix, Tykwer made his own movie - "Lola rennt" (Run, Lola, Run). In my opinion, these two movie belong together. "Run, Lola, Run" - worth a watch.

It’s not really the kiss that brings him back. It’s the fulfillment of the prophecy. Trinity was told by The Oracle that she would fall in love with “the one” and Neo was told that either him or Morpheus would die. Neo died and Trinity fell in love with Neo.

the bullet time slow motion circular rotation thing is done with a ssshhhitload of cameras lined up in the direction you want the action to go also, how does the kiss of fucking destiny or something work!? It wooorks, cus he didn't *really* get shot - he believes, and trinity believes - and the oracle said A = A; your mind makes it real - his mind fucking didn't! And that's it! Code cracked, it was the kiss of true love! Figure that one out, machines! (but yeah, a bit outta nowhere w the love)

This iconic AF movie! This was the wildest film, in a cinematic sense, since probably Jurassic Park. The perfect end-cap to the 90's. The CG, the cinematography, and the story, had 12 year old me leaving the theater wondering if I was in the fuckin' Matrix. It didn't help that I was(and am) a major computer nerd and had just built my very first personal PC weeks before I saw this movie. I went from wanting to be a female Goku, to wanting to be a female Neo in one night XD Now you should look into Simulation Theory, it's one of my favorite super-niche physics theories, and it can kinda fuck up your worldview, especially if you're fascinated by things like pondering the fundamental nature of reality. This all could technically be a simulation, and one day, we could prove it by creating our very own sub reality. Imagine we create a virtual universe, modeled after our own, complete with the rules necessary for matter and energy to interact as they do in our reality. What if sentient life arises in that simulation? Is that reality any lesser than our own? This movie helped me really think about existence, and I will always cherish it for that. It helped lead me down intellectual and philosophical rabbit holes that have helped form the person I am today.

Where was this shot? Sydney, Australia. The camera angles are very clever so you don't see any give-away landmarks, but the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge are just a few blocks from the CBD locations of the buildings shown in aerial city shots. Apart from being a cheap location at the time, the film makers thought the shots of tall buildings would not be recognizable to northern hemisphere audiences. I know Sydney well and I didn't recognize the locations. The scene with the "woman in the red dress" is in the lower business district - in Pitt Street next to the Martin Place Fountain. If you look very carefully, you can tell that in brief shots of streets that the cars are driving on the left side of the road.

You look too young to have even been born when this movie premiered. But rewatching with you and I see that moment where Mobius talks about the human race in the early 21st century celebrating the birth of A.I. OH SHIT! That's terrifying. Feels like Mobius was real and he knows where we are headed. 😮 BTW, the action was obviously over the top and would be ridiculous, if not for one thing. In the Matrix the real world rules don't apply. It's a very inventive way to do some really crazy stuff. Let's just hope the matrix doesn't become our reality.....or maybe it already is.....hmmm??

Spoiler Warning for those who didn’t watch the movie yet. The blue pill will probably put Neo asleep. And they have those as protection against those who don’t want to leave the matrix, because everyone who doesn’t, is potentially an Agent. Fun fact: Remember, how Neo got that phone in his cubicle? The ballpen he used to sign for it, had actually the choice for two colors. Red and Blue. And - to call him by his given name - Thomas chose the blue color, showing, that he wasn’t ready yet, to leave. But the interaction with the Agents helped him making up his mind.

"You hear that Mr. Anderson?... That is the sound of inevitability... It is the sound of your death... Goodbye, Mr. Anderson..." "My name... is Neo." Fun, deep film. This movie is about free will and breaking free of the machine. Unfortunately, the second and third movies (while watchable) are philosophically inconsistent with this movie. The fourth movie is absolute garbage and completely unwatchable. I can't stop you from watching them, just be prepared to be disappointed in them. Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Tamara Brown. Mythology Fact: In Greek mythology, Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) is the god of dreams. The One Fact: To prepare for the scene where Neo wakes up in a pod, Keanu Reeves lost fifteen pounds and shaved his whole body to give Neo an emaciated look. Set Malfunction Fact: After the lobby shoot-out, the camera pans back, showing the aftermath of the gunfight. A moment passes, and a large chunk of one of the pillars falls off. This was not planned, but was left in for a comedic effect. Not A Snowflake Fact: Carrie-Anne Moss twisted her ankle while shooting one of her scenes, but decided not to tell anyone until after filming, so they wouldn't re-cast her. Carrie-Anne Moss performed the shots featuring Trinity at the beginning of the film, and all the wire stunts throughout, herself. Sunglasses Enthusiast Fact: The iconic sunglasses worn by the Matrix characters are from the "Blinde" label, which prides itself on producing handmade glasses. The company's founder, Richard Walker, had to tender against large companies, such as Ray-Ban and Arnette, to win the film's sunglasses contract, and set himself apart by scratch-designing pairs of glasses based purely on the characters' unusual names. When his tender was successful, Walker was flown into Sydney where he spent the duration of the Matrix shoot custom-designing sunglasses for the cast in the back of an Oxford Street optometrist.
