It's a subtle line in the movie, but very clever, almost subliminal advertising, when they pick Neo up under the bridge Switch calls him Copper Top which at the time doesn't mean anything to us. Shortly thereafter Morpheus shows him what he was being used as, the Duracell battery.

@@finnmccool2851 Neo's room number is 101 (the one) and Trinity works out of room #303. hackers/cryptographers in the Matrix are poetic people who enjoy the symbolism. The whole series is full of stuff like this. The cookie was probably some code injected by the Oracle to advance the program inherent to the one (unknowing state --> sacrifice state perhaps :D). HTML/browser cookies are used to identify individuals accessing a website and were invented in 1994. They could have gotten the idea from there, I guess. In the second film, we see another offer of candy from the oracle, probably another program input, that Neo rejects I believe.

She just let him guess at the answer, and then made him feel satisfied and confident in his answer, even though she never explicitly confirmed or denied it. And the interesting thing is how it not only misleads him, it also usually misleads anyone watching the movie the first time.

Keanu started training Martial Arts for these movies and fell in love with it. He's a really driven guy. There was a kiddy pool on set for the second two movies filled with ice so he could take ice baths after training, which he would do three or four times a day on non shoot days. Plus, everything they say about him being a good dude is true. The reason he's in John Wick is his stunt double, and three of the stunt men who doubled the agents, approached him with the John Wick script. He read the script and loved it. How many actors would read a script from their stunt double, and trust that stunt double to direct that movie? A rare kind of person. Oh, and the one time I saw him really excited was when he was discussing a book he'd just read on string theory. The reason he's kind of odd and reserved is he's brilliant. One of those guys who's too smart to interact comfortably with everyone else. Keanu is a player character.

Then you have books such as "Neuromancer" (1984), "Simulacra and Simulation" (1981), Snow Crash (2000). Or older one such as Heinlein "They" (1941). Not exacly pure simulation that one, but close enough. So those concepts have been known for a while, it is just Matrix put them together much better, into one good movie. The white haired crew member (Switch) who "looked familiar" was played by Australian actress Belinda McClory Fun fact, McClory was initially supposed to play the character only for the "into the matrix" parts. The part aboard the Nebuchadnezzar was supposed to be made by a (undisclosed) male actor. Hence the name of the character But producers thoutgh that it would be "too confusing" for the audience in 1999. So McClory did the part while looking as androgynous as possible So, yes, Switch was originally ment to be a trans character as their "digital self image" was the opposite gender

The Wachoskis invented a whole new way of filming, embraced the meta, and really just revolutionized movie storytelling. People have no idea how amazing it was to go into these movies with no knowledge other than a trailer and just be blown away. There wasn't the internet and social media there to spoil everything before the movie even came out. The only trailer for The Matrix just said "What is The Matrix?" with very little actual showing of what to expect. I can still hear in my head the cheering and "ooohhh!!" when Smith charges Neo at the end and Neo is just blocking everything with ease and turns to the side blocking all his punches with one are. I'll never forget that experience. It will always be one of my favorite movies. If they would've nailed 2 & 3 it would easily be in the convo for best trilogy. But they didn't so 🤷🏾‍♂️. I suppose Cipher was committed to a particular course of action when he agreed to help the Agents. Mainly not leaving anyone else alive after betraying Morpheus and the team. I presume Cipher had keep the rest of the team and the operators from disconnecting Morpheus from the Matrix before the Agents had a chance to extract any Info from Morpheus's mind. Once Cipher confirmed the agents have the needed info he could just sit back and chill while the machines infiltrate/attack and or destroy Zion and fly the hovercraft to a pre-arranged (assuming he could operate/fly the ship himself) location where the machines take him to a reserved pod and hook him back into the Matrix. With Zion destroyed and his crew dead there would be virtually no one left alive to question his actions or to discover that he was solely responsible for the death of his team and the destruction of Zion. This all supposition on my part but a possible scenario had Cipher managed to succeed and a terrible ending to the movie.

It's refreshing to hear someone note the importance of casting Keanu Reeves in the right role (he's no Gary Oldman). One of my life's small regrets: I *passed* on seeing The Matrix when it was in the theaters, and I've never seen it on the big screen. But in 1999, I'd made up my mind: "No more f'g Keanu Reeves movies!" I'd seen his weak performance in My Own Private Idaho (outshone by River Phoenix, RIP)... I'd been appalled at his totally-$HIT English accent in Coppola's Dracula, annoyed that he was ever cast in the role ("Aren't there any *British* actors Coppola could've cast?" I wondered)... And I'd been dragged by college friends to Johnny Mnemonic -- a mess of a film, letting down the source material (Gibson) -- "One for Johnny Moronic," I said, purchasing my ticket. Walking out of the film, it occurred to me, "We've worked out Keanu's range, and that range is... Ted! Because he IS Ted!" (Bogus, dude! That said, he was OK in Parenthood, but obviously *acting.* I'm also one of the few people who thought Speed was just a little too dumb to enjoy -- nowhere near as plausible or fun as Die Hard or Lethal Weapon, and Keanu's just... boring. But then again, in that movie, even Dennis Hopper was boring!) Anyways, that's how I missed the best Keanu Reeves movie ever: THE MATRIX! Keanu is *perfect* as Neo in this brilliant film. Today, a quarter-century after The Matrix, I admit Keanu is very good in the right role and a very disciplined actor. (But no more accents, Keanu. Please.)

Before you watch the sequels, I recommend watching 'The Animatrix'. It's an animated anthology with different stories that take place between the 1st and 2nd movie. It'll help give you some insight into plot points and characters in the 2nd movie, and also explain the history of The Matrix and the Machine world. It's also incredibly well made, with some of the most amazing visuals.

If they didn't make sequels he would be invincible - they nerfed him for the sequels so they could have more wire-fu, otherwise he'd just be jumping in agents and 'sploding them every time.

@@theelder4797 He probably did delete the other agents before the sequels and we have new agents "the ugrades" in their place. The machines can create more agents without a problem (not that it helps). I think he fights them in Reloaded simply because he is enjoying the fight and learning about their new code.

The Wachowski sisters writing this before coming out as trans makes so much sense. The whole having a way you are perceived in the simulation vs having a real self. They had wanted to include one of the characters that was a man in the real world and a woman in the simulation (or it could have been the other way around), but it didn't make the cut. Really a great film.

I think the most interesting part of this video was seeing Coby's surprised reaction to seeing people she knows who had bit parts that she didn't know were in the movie, especially when you consider it's a 25 year-old flick! Me: happy to see a youtuber somewhat close to my age, and she's crazy cute too, even though I used to live in SoCal and Vegas and saw my fair share of beautiful women. Me halfway through the movie when she says, "Suicide doors on the Lincoln Continental!", I just fell in love. LOL!

Such a talent, and yes, reacting IS A TALENT- At least, when an audience is the recipient. Can’t wait for the rest of the series. 😊 PS - have you seen Dark City? It predates this by a year or so, and may have served as reflection to the creators of The Matrix.

I'm interested in your life story to answer two perplexing questions: 1. How does someone in the industry not see some of the biggest movies of the past 25 years? (I imagine it may involve something like, "I'm pretty therefore I had better things to do." :-) 2. How does someone from Australia not have an Australian accent? I know Australians can sound American when they want to, but their everyday voice typically has an Australian accent.

A movie with a similar dress code, from the year before this, is "Blade." It has the distinction of being the first successful Marvel film, and it's the first of a trilogy. While "The Matrix" is the better film, maybe "Blade" is the better trilogy? IDK. Popcorn muncher action. BTW, if you haven't seen Hugo Weaving in "V for Vendetta," it's a top film, must see, classic.

I don't usually write comments and give compliments especially to pretty girls as you, cuz you know, everybody else does and it's probably annoying, but I just have to tell you that your reaction to the movie made me so happy, you are so joyful and genuine in your expression that is contagious. This is the best reaction I have seen to this movie so far, I just felt your vibe!
