Not really, a lot of watch collectors started with beginner level watches. You can still find great watches at decent price. Such as Seiko, Hamilton, etc. It sometimes isn’t about the price but the value n history behind it.

In Switzerland, they study horology. The history of watchmaking at a high level is the benchmark that is Geneva. This isn't about money, its what the country is known for.

What a beautifully photographed and presented film - this chap is as refined as his watches and yet there was not even a hint of snobbery about him; a great example of the wearer bringing status to the watch, not the other way round. And his comments about vintage items telling a story and reflecting a lost time when perfection stood out and had value and individuality... so true!

I love when a classy and refined gentleman such as this tells a good "It was early in the morning and I was drunk" story.

He certainly understands value. When design meets function and style with great aesthetic balance and precision it can become timeless...but only time tells, that's why vintage pieces stand up, they continue to inspire over time..or not. Old money families will have more exposure to vintage pieces and it follows that they are wealthy, but riches are found in the appreciation and beauty of the culture involved in creating and then refining the piece. When you're truly inspired by falling in love, by truly appreciating what you want, that's when the motivation sets in. It's knowing what you want and recognising the sacrifices to go for it, it can consume one in the guilty wrestle inherent to burning time and energy on a selfish pursuit, but if the greater good is leaning towards beauty, then perhaps aspiration starts to trump inspiration.

My husband is a watchmaker. I’ve loved watches since I was a child. Certainly not in the same class that this gentleman has but the old, mechanical watches are treasures. Loved this video and his passion for watches.

Great piece of production. Great storytelling. Great watches!

Every piece in his collection is a moment and that is priceless.

It made me smile to see the Swiss aficionado show his adoration for his A Lange & Söhne. I feel the fact they are German means they are often overlooked for their Swiss counterparts. It’s my favorite of his collection.

One of the best videos i've seen on youtube, which is strange because it isnt very long but the message and composition is just so great. Well done.

He speaks so soothingly to the ears. Very clear, eloquent and relaxing.

My first watch was a Timex. Burgundy pleather band, golden case. I was so proud to wear it to school in the 4th grade. I’ll never forget it.

Even drunk you can buy a watch, you just need to buy it from a reputable dealer. I will get that in mind next time. This video is all about class. Big thumbs up!

Fair enough, but If I asked my father to loan me his 5-10 year worth of wages Im pretty sure I know what the answer would be. You can only loan what you can realistically pay back, which in itself is a kind of being rich.

Look at it any way you like, I will just tell you this: my 4 room (1000 sq.ft) apartment was just under $30K. So its all relative really, 30K is a nice wrist watch to someone and a decent home for someone else, so naturally, anyone who can splash that much on a wrist watch is rich in my eyes. 5-6 years worth of average wage where I come from, and even that average wage is hard to come by.
