@@velcro4836 Thanks! Yeah it's easy to whistle while chilling but considerably harder to 'record' a whistle in the mic since the mic (even with the pop filter) picks up a lot of air especially during highs and lows when you're trying to get it perfect. The fact that Tim chose my whistle is enough to tell me I was good enough. Fun fact: I once recorded an easier whistle (which came out perfect!) for a buyer who rejected the delivery because he thought it was not a natural human whistle and more like a pipe/flute 😂

I think it was just the old model and musicians with weak egos who kept this sort of thing a dirty little secret. I’ve heard in particular of cases of session musicians being hired to come up with ideas for all sorts of massive bands and then obviously the bands themselves then go on to take all the credit. Polyphia is doing an amazing thing of opening up these sorts of processes.

Well, I guess these things are only natural, and I didn't even have to watch the vid to know Tim is influenced by others, he frequently mentions he has drilled a lot of stuff before, from Hendrix to classical music. Anyway, almost nobody seems to have the "balls" to ask these questions, so that we know a bit more about Tim: Here are my questions I would love to see answered: 1. Is Polyphia now almost entirely playing songs where every single 16-th note is hit by default as a total must, and as many 32-ths and sometimes even 64-ths are cramed into one beat as possible - to just flex on purpose? 2. Is it because they try to differentiate themselves from others, knowing a few, if any, would be able to repeat the same thing after them? Is it because they perceive this day and age being fast, and it is just a response to that? Or is it because they just want to be super-shredders? 3. Don't they think after one or two more albums with playing this super-fast, the continuous note hitting without any air and space will just become too much of an overkill - and get too boring? 4. Don't they plan to record at least ONE song with a bit more "space" in it? I mean, I know I am Gen X and this are new gen gentlemen, but still - here's a concert take by Henson (recorded when he was even years younger) - and played a beutiful solo with MUCH MORE SPACE in-between notes, and more headroom, than the super-tight, super compressed, super crammed style he prefers to play now (my generation would call this old Henson's solo FUSION btw.): kzread.info/dash/bejne/eK17u9Ocj7GTmtY.html 5. It seems that people are just afraid to ask Tim what many would like to know, I believe. I don't want to get offensive in any way, but I have to ask this - why does Tim like so many feminine elements around him, starting with his clothing, through pink amp sims, to his hair style? Is it because his mother has had a great influence on him? My first thought was Tim is one of those guys who use female or even plural pronouns - but no, he seems to identify himself purely as male. So, WHAT is the influence behind this feminine styling of his? And, what does his girlfriend say about it? I am literally curious to know the answers. Thx

Bro, you’re a beast. I’m a guitarist at Berklee, I saw you when y’all came to Boston not too long ago, had the pleasure of crowd surfing to this song. Core memory for me. Keep inspiring musicians and making sick music👊🏼
I'm actively learning the shred part of this and this comes out XD love you tim, the tour in Pomona was amazing!
The part you said was from Scott with the meshing of both guitars is my absolute favorite part of the entire song guitar wise. Something about intertwining Melodies is so baroque and Bach esque to me. The baroque period of classical is my favorite period to play anything out of. Would love to see more delving into the classical sphere!
That melody is so good that without knowing the composer I would think it could only be created by Pat Metheny. Which is another proof of Tim's creative genius.
There are so many other subtle layers to that song that he revealed. Cool part is they'll stand out on the next listen even more. Very cool stuff.
My God what a masterpiece. I still haven't experienced burn out on this song. There's so much subtly going on in this song that I find something new with each listen. Thank you Tim ❤️
It's great to see him take the time to breakdown the creative process. Greatly appreciated Tim!
Thanks you for sharing musical explanations of your creations, and to help us to understand music in a different way
Wow! How wonderful to gain insight into the creative process. Tim’s integrity and honesty is without reproach giving credit to the anonymous guitar teacher and other musicians who contributed towards this masterpiece. Tim will go down in history for being one of the true greats. Good on him.
This is such a priceless information, i wish more musicians came out with their sotries of making music. Inside look of content that is such high level is rediculously cool to watch. Thx alot Tim, i know its hard to move entire genres almost single-handedly, but you are a good example that dedication, practice and love to your work can move mountains
The whistle melody is incredible. Easily one of my favorite part of Playing God. Well done on that acquisition on Fiver.
Amazing and Beautiful Mr. Henson. Thanks for showing us the genius of all of you that made it. Never heard of you before and now Im a fan for life!
I feel like I really get to know you in these breakdowns! Can’t wait for more, My favorite guitarist right now!
*Love* seeing this sort of in-depth look from Polyphia! Really cool to hear Tim discuss thoughts on production as well as some nuances that are in the backdrop of the mix and ideas that didn't make the final track.
A making of video for nearly every song????? I'm so excited!!! Can't wait for those, can't wait for the album
Bro, you're on your way to being the GOAT. SRV is a high mark to hit, but I think you're already in the conversation. You're easily in the top 5 greatest guitarists alive, you've got a fan for LIFE here. Thanks for all the behind-the-scenes content, it really adds depth to your already brain-melting music. The rest of the industry is trying to keep up with you and your band at this point, keep pushing 🙂
I am so glad you mention Wes. I've been such a huge fan since hearing his solo on Mile Zero. HE'S the one who should be going on tour with Pantera.
Saw alluvial open for animals as leaders years ago. Loved them so much, I bought their album at their merch booth and had a chance to talk to the guys. Super cool dudes
I just love how the mastery of these guys seems so simple since they just make random ideas musical🤯
Holy crap this is amazing. Love seeing so much collaboration on this masterpiece.
That arpeggio madness at the end was also a real hair pulling experience to get right. Thanks for the tabs!
So cool to know all this stuff. And "sashtaneja" DiD killed it with the whistling.
so, im a new-ish fan of polyphia and of tim, but ive gone back to all of his old shtuff, and omfg he's come such a long way. like its not even funny of how far he's come. anyways; props to u bro :)
That Omnisphere part is so sick, never thought that's how something like that would've been composed!
