The Magi Visit the Newborn Jesus - Aramaic Bible Study Matthew 2:1-8

The following is from my Aramaic Bible Study series, covering Matthew 2:1-8 in the Classical Syriac. I read the passage in both the Western accent written in the Serto script and commonly found among the Syriac Orthodox, Maronite Catholic, and Syrian Catholic communities (and historically the Antiochian Orthodox). I also read the text in the Eastern accent found among the Ancient/Assyrian Church of the East, the Chaldean Catholics, and the Syriac Orthodox and Syriac Catholic communities of Northern Iraq.
For a reading of the text in the square script used to write the Hebrew language (Kitav Ashuri), see the link below at my Substack site.

If you are a beginner like me and you want to learn classical syriac using a book then I recommend this book for self study: Classical Syriac by Arman Akopian. It is an amazing book. it begins with a brief history of aramaic language and how it evolved over time then it will teach you how to write and read the syriac alphabets from alaf to taw then it will enter to the grammar of syriac language. But if you do not like to read books then I recommend seeing youtube videos. There are alot of channels in youtube that can help you learn syriac language like:- Assyrian faith youtube channel and many more. Note:-what i mention above is only exclusive to classical syriac and not to Old, Imperial, or Neo-aramaic. There are alot of books and research done by Geoffery khan and others about Neo-Aramaic language and its dialacts. Old and imperial aramaic I found one book that explains their grammar and spelling briefly the book is called: languages from the world of bible by holger gzella.

5:02 What form would ܐܬܬܙܝܥ be? "He was disturbed" with a root of √ܙܝܥ takes me to something corresponding with ithpa'el, but the second _taw_ confuses me. Is the 3ms prefix in Syriac -ܬ? Also no metathesis, now that I think of it, but that's understandable when for some reason there are two _taws._ That being said I come into this with Imperial Aramaic as my tool, I haven't yet had the energy to invest into learning Syriac morphology.

ܐܷܬ݁ܬ݁+ܙܝܥ It is in ETTPhA'AL form of the concave verb( ܙܝܥ ). Other examples of ETTPhA'AL form of concave verbs:- 1-ܐܷܬ݁ܬ݁ܟܝܠ Composed of (ܐܷܬ݁ܬ݁+ܟܝܠ) Means:- to be measured. 2-ܐܷܬ݁ܬ݁ܢܝܚ (ett+nikh) Composed of (ܐܷܬ݁ܬ݁+ܢܝܚ) Means: to rest. For more details please check this reference: Aramaic (Syriac) Grammar by Thomas Arayathinai, Volume-1, pages 415-431. Edit:- there are two taws simply because it is of the form of ETTPhA'AL (ETT(ܐܷܬ݁ܬ݁) + verb)
