THIS STORY:
Carl Tanzler, or sometimes Doctor (or) Count - Carl von Cosel, was a German-born radiology technologist who mascaraded as a Doctor at the Marine-Hospital Service in Key West, Florida. He developed an obsession for a young Cuban-American tuberculosis patient named Elena "Helen" Milagro de Hoyos. This obsession carried on well after her death.
In 1933, almost two years after her death, Tanzler removed Hoyos' body from it's tomb, and lived with the corpse at his home for seven years until its discovery by Hoyos' relatives and authorities in 1940.

_________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

I'm a recent widow. ( July 8th) and my late husband and i would joke around that whoever died first would be stuffed and set on the couch or recliner in my case so we could still watch tv together. Of course u can't do that but it made for a good hearted laugh between us. Now, his urn is behind the couch on a shelf. I heard stories of this guy Dr Cosel. all i can say is wow.

I wish I could go around legend tripping like I used to, unfortunately my life has been kind of unfair starting with the death of my mom, grandparents, & the suicide of my wife all happening within a very small time frame in 2008. Due to those stresses I’ve developed Crohn’s disease & several mental disorders so I’ve been on disability (which I hate) so I’m very poor & can’t afford to drive. Tests found pre-cancerous cells in my esophagus, I can go on & on. Sorry to ramble on, it kinda sucks when you have no family or friends to talk to anymore. The only thing I have is my Yorkie & is literally the only thing keeping me alive. Sorry again, but I have so many stories to tell & no one to listen.

Brazil is a beautiful country with diversity of every type of climate, land. You have from wodwrful tropical beaches to forests, deserts, mountains, similar as USA. But it doesn't snow as in USA. It can be as hot in summer as in Arizona, but never dryer. We have too much humidity because of the Amazon forest. Brazil is the largest country in South America. Sao Paulo is bigger than NYC nowadays. South Brazil has many italian and german decendants, so most of us look different than other brazilians (blond hair and light colored eyes, more like europeans). Check on google for some research because there is a lot of interesting and beautiful infos about my country. Like yours. I love USA a lot. Have been many times there and lived for a year in Santa Fe, NM. Wonderful place full of amazing history.

@@anaschuck3475 I remember in elementary school... it were yonks ...being taught about South America, Tropical Equator, Tropic of Cancer, etc., and Magellan the daft explorer?... Have you always lived in Brazil? Sounds beautiful like paradise 😍. I'm embarrassed so many in my country dress like they're wearing their knickers out in public, and don't dress properly and have no manners. Just so sick of it all. Like have some respect for yourself and everyone else, but they don't care. An example of people caring is when a crisis occurs? Say like a car collision, or summat else, is when someone takes notice of someone? Otherwise people keep to themselves and it can feel awful lonely. I'm writing this publicly, I can't believe I did, but innit like that everywhere in the world? People treat others awful and pay no attention to anyone else? Shouldn't be that way. Where are Christians? I'm married❣️7 years, & my husband says we're best friends, which is true. You mentioned European. I've got some of that ancestry, much more Polish, some German, and even less U.K., ancestry. My favorite is British🇬🇧 U.K. Oh, the Amazon rainforest is what keeps everyone on planet earth thriving a nature documentary said. It may have been David Attenborough who said that. It's abused too often, not taken care of properly, nor is there much consideration when something is destroyed by man it may never recover, or cease to exist, be it plant, animal, or mineral, or even a whole ecosystem. That's astounding that something so far away, the Amazon rainforest has such a incredible impact on nearly every living life form, but way too many are selfish, greedy, and ignorant who don't think it matters or don't think about it. Sad. Do you drink coffee? We love coffee! Sumatran Manheling is a favorite of ours. Does it grow in South America? Did I get that wrong? I know Colombian coffee does.

There were several cases of it back in the early 1900's. Thank u for the video n cant wait for the next one!!

Yes I’ve heard of this story. This Doctor was proper sick in the head. That poor lady deserved to be left in peace after dying of a disease and he essentially defiled her after her death. He was obviously not right in the head and totally obsessed with her. Deranged man he was. Poor Elena. Heartbreaking.

That old tree is a “strangler fig” tree. A bird drops a seed on a “host” plant or tree and it grows taking over the host, killing it. They are very beautiful, mysterious and invasive. They are most famous for the Temple in Cambodia that has been slowing engulfed with them.

I went past this cemetery in Key West when I visited in 1990. Its general impression is so different to an English cemetery- being in a semi-tropical location but it was interesting nonetheless. Many of the cemeteries you visit are much more like those in the UK and as you demonstrate, there is a multitude of stories to tell behind those silent stones. There is an association between tuberculosis and melancholia and it is often the case that those that have had broken and sad lives contract the disease. My grandfather and great grandfather died with it and one can make the connection when viewing their lives and difficulties they encountered.

You come up with some really good stories it’s amazing that anyone would even conceive of doing such a freakish thing. I can’t imagine anyone admiring this guy or a doctor saying he was sane. I guess this would be a peaceful marriage seeing one half was dead! Another great one.
