MARILYN LEMAK:
On March 4, 1999, Marilyn Lemak, 49, in the throes of a divorce from Dr. David Lemak, sedated and then murdered the couple's 3 children -- Nicholas, 7, Emily, 6, and Thomas, 3 -- before attempting suicide. She survived and is serving a life sentence in an Illinois prison. David Lemak remarried and now lives out of state.

The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

I was just over 4 years into my dispatching career when I took that call. It was around 11:30am, and I was just getting ready to take my lunch break when the phone rang. I was primary call taker that day, so my break would have to wait. What I had recorded into our CAD(computer aided dispatch) system was surreal. I couldnt tell if this was a legitimate call or not. I had never spoke to her before, so I did not know at all who she was. But, as we are trained, we take calls serious enough about the subject matter to get help dispatched, then follow up with scripted questions. I was being coached as my supervisor, the patrol supervisor and other staff members surrounded me listening, directing cars and making calls to other personnel. It was hectic, and I still wasnt sure of what kind of call I was taking. I read the transcript and, now, as a retired dispatcher, I can see where the general population would say "they had no clue what to say" or "Ok is not a word to use in this situation". You have to keep in mind that in the back ground, I had several people talking to me, telling me to ask this question, or that question. It was not just me alone in the com center during that call. My daughter was just 3 years old at that time, so once I realized that this was in fact real, she came to mind, and my heart broke. I attended the wakes, and stood outside at the funeral, respecting the wishes of the family only service. I paid my silent respect to the children. I dont care who was to blame, all I cared about were those 3 little angels and that they were no longer a presence in the family. The next 2 and a half years was hell for me. Getting briefed to testify, then only to have it cancelled. My emotional state was wearing down. I just wanted to be done with this. I was reminded every day of what happened. Finally, the day came where I was up on the stand. I was asked a few questions confirming who I was, what we were listening to and if I took that call. She sat across from me with her head down. She couldnt look at me. I wanted to make eye contact with her just so I could "get it off my chest" but say it thru my stare. In the end, justice prevailed. It doesnt matter what I would've wanted the outcome to be. It doesnt matter anymore. It will always be in my heart, and I will wear this to my grave. Thank you for reviewing this

Thank you for sharing. I am sure this was the most memorable event of your career. Tradjec, she meant to hurt her husband but hurt so many people, everyone in EMS, the school, neighbors, parishioners, family and friends. You kept her talking on the phone which was good. If there had been any chance they were alive it bought time. Keeping her talking allowed police to question her without her killing herself so its clear what happened. It haunts me. I hope you fully heal from this. God bless the children.

My daughter suffered from postpartum depression after the birth of her first child. It was very real and very frightening. We had her and her husband and my granddaughter move in with us for about a year so we could be there for her and help take care of her and the baby. She made it, and is a tremendous mother to 3 children now.

This looks like the kind of cemetery I’d love to spend hours in. What a horribly sad story. Those poor wee bairns. She must have been suffering dreadfully with post natal depression after the birth of her kids. Post natal depression is a dreadful illness. If it turns into post natal psychosis it can have very tragic consequences. It’s possible that she suffered PND from the birth of the first child and it went untreated to only worsen with each subsequent birth. If anyone is unfamiliar with PND please take some time to read about it.

I have witnessed PND first hand Bobbi , and it may be , this woman indeed suffered from its effects . Although , the bit of research I viewed mentioned ; that many women strickened do not go on to have another child , and rarely a third . Whether or not , this is absolutely correct ? , i can't say '' ,, what is curious however , is her PND comes to a climax the exact same time that her husband leaves her for another woman .. Strange , there is no record { that we've been told of } of any intervention after the 1st , 2nd , or 3rd child by the husband { who is a Dr afterall } or family ,,, other than the friend who offered to babysit , in order to give Marilyn a bit of a break , and that was shortly before the murders happened .. Whatever the actually reasoning of the cause was , it resulted in 3 murdered children ,, a sad , and awful fact .. Have a wonderful day Bobbi and stay safe ....

@@jeffwarren6906 thank you Jeff. Sometimes I like to play Devil’s advocate. I should have added that I know nothing about the story or the tragic circumstances. The loss of 3 Wee bairns is a complete tragedy no matter what the reason. Innocent wee lives that never had the chance to live is a complete travesty. What I was actually trying to do was bring to the fore of what a dreadful thing PND is and sadly it’s one of these hidden illnesses that needs to be brought into public consciousness. My best friend was a solicitor, a very clever astute woman who’s knowledge of the law was encyclopaedic. All she ever wanted was to be a mum. Sadly she developed PND after her first bairn and needed hospitalised. She went on to have a second wee one and knew the statistics however she started developing it pre delivery and sadly within a few days of her son being born she developed full blown puerperal psychosis. That was 12 years ago, her wee boy has no real idea of who his mum is as she has been in hospital most of the time. She was asked one day that she was having a reasonably lucid day, was it worth it to loose your sanity

Nothing against masons at all it just wasn’t at all what I expected. My heart goes out to the Miller family. Even though the man that caused the accident got no kind of consequential judgement he will have to live with that child’s death for the rest of his life. My conscience would eat me alive. Marilyn Lemak filed for divorce in April 1997. There apparently was a reconciliation, and she asked that the divorce case be dismissed, which it was on Aug. 7, 1997. But the peace between David and Marilyn Lemak proved to be short-lived, and she filed again for divorce on June 1, 1998. In the divorce papers, Marilyn Lemak said there were "irreconcilable differences" that were tearing the marriage apart, and she asked for child support for her children. The papers said she and her husband had been living under the same roof, but separately. On July 29, she filed papers with the court asking that she be given exclusive possession of the home, because, she said, living in the same house with her husband was "causing serious episodes of stress, which have resulted in physical symptoms." David Lemak fought the request that he be forced to move out, noting that he had been making the $3,500-a-month mortgage payments. Marilyn Lemak's request was denied in September, and David Lemak stayed at home. Meanwhile, the couple completed a court-ordered divorce education counseling program given by the DuPage County Psychological Services Department, and they then were ordered to undergo mediation. Through that mediation process, they came to agreements on child custody and visitation rights, court records show. A court document on those subjects that was signed Jan. 19 does not spell out the specifics of the agreement. Marilyn saw her husband and his new girlfriend together the day before she killed them. David was supposed to have a court-ordered visit with them the day after she had killed them. No doubt she killed them out of spite for having seen him with his girlfriend.

So crazy I was a student at North Central College during that time! I was in class and there was all these helicopters flying around and police cars complete chaos! Our professor let us leave class early since something serious had happened! It was really sad when we found out what happened! There was tons of flowers and stuffed animals outside their home! I live 25 min from there!

Such beautiful little children. So sad that their mother was so evil, but only someone in such an evil embrace could hurt children, especially their own.

I would say that this type of depression . Was the strain on the body and mind after giving birth . That should have required lab work to determine deficiencies in vitamins , minerals , amino acids , etc. To be dealt with naturally not with the typical " anti-depression " drugs .

This was certainly heinous, but sometimes circumstances can be so devastating that a person's mind breaks with reality. I'm certainly not condoning this, but emotional pain, coupled with acute, severe depression can push a person to do the unthinkable.

@@eileenmcdonald1599 have you ever endured anything so horrendous it nearly pushed you into a mental breakdown? I have, and until you have experienced something so devastating it nearly breaks you, stop judging what someone else has done. Until you've walked a mile in someone else's shoes, you don't have the experience to know what they've gone through, and what it's done to them.

At the end that killer mom didn't gain nothing in taking revenge against her husband and the only one suffering the consequences is her , with the memories of knowing that she's the one who killed her 3 beautiful children , because I don't think that her conscience is at peace , and those dead kids are going to be in her mind until she dies ! Sad history , but thank you for sharing it with us the viewers (Gang ) God bless you Mr Ron !
