Really the only thing "live action" in the live action jungle book is the actor playing Mowgli. You can't ignore the selling point of these movies is a "live action" look Disney is pushing rather it actually is 'live" action or not, they wouldn't get very far selling an "animated in a different way" remake.

The biggest thing I think this review failed to mention was Scar's emotional manipulation. It doesn't matter who actually killed Mufasa as much as the fact that Simba *thinks* he killed Mufasa. The "What would your mother think?" line was a trigger for Simba's abuse that reminded him of his past. For his pride's sake, he decided to go back and responsibly face his potential consequences as his own decision. The choice to take responsibility is what matters most.

This would seem to indicate that his apparent responsibility for Mufasa's death has turned them against him...except Simba has challenged Scar for position as King. Interfering would be breaking the rules of the challenge, until a winner is decided it's entirely between Simba and Scar. After Simba makes Scar confess to murder the hyenas jump Simba and the lionesses have their chance to get in on things, though they still don't attack Scar himself.

@@notfloweyyt7618 Excatly. I know it's kind off a no brainer but since I was a kid I always wondered for years why Mufasa's death made the biggest impact in Disney's Parent Death Line-Up. It's because he's the Disney parent with the most amount of screen time before his death. I think Mufasa can be described as the animated film equivalent of Ned Stark, cause he basically starts out as the protagonist who we all look up to and admire until he dies and then his son becomes the protagonist.

I think it's supposed to show that there will be consequenses for your actions, but you can overcome them, like how Simba does when he forces Scar to admit his crime. the difference between physical strength and emotional strength is also a core message of the movie. Simba initially admires his dad for how big and strong and powerful he is, but Mufasa's greatest strength is emotional. It's his empathy, and it shows in the scene where he tells simba about the great kings of the past. It's Mufasa's emotional strength that is Simba's driving force throughout the whole movie and is what enables him to gain that strength on his own at the final part. The lion king has so many different messages, in the end it's an ode to life. To the circle of life

As to Doug's final point about the movie mangling it's message about taking responsibility, I read it a bit differently to how he reviews it here. When Simba reveals that he's responsible for Mufasa's death, this is shocking news. Nala, Sirabi and the other lionesses are all caught off guard by the revelation, and Scar is ready to exploit their reaction. He shouts and repeats the accusation, verbally re-enforcing it, and starts circling Simba to isolate him from the rest of the pride until his army of hyenas can back him up to hem Simba in against the cliffs. It's less about his friends and family abandoning him in the face of the confession, more that even despite the fact that Simba did the right thing, Scar is still a devious bastard who knows how to twist a situation to his advantage, just as he did in the canyon.

But what Mufasa is trying to teach Simba is that one should never take too much from their domain, lest they risk throwing things off-balance. In other words; if they end up eating too much, there will be no other animals left to keep nature on course

This is the part everyone seems to miss when they make fun of the environmental decay of Scar's reign. He completely upset the ecology of the Pride Lands by allowing the hyenas free reign over everything. Hyenas are usually scavengers who eat what the lions leave behind. Now they're one of the apex predators, and far more numerous. That's gonna cause huge ecosystem changes. Just look at the Yellowstone deer.

I think you misinterpreted the message a bit. The point was if Simba kept running from his past he would never learn from it i.e he would never find out the truth of what happened. The reason the lionesses didn't help him was because they were in shock, they just heard that he was responsible for their previous Kings death. Hakuna Matata wasn't about dodging responsibility it was about not worrying about things you can't change especially the past. And finally the reason Simba was cornered by Scar and could do so little is because the moral wasn't about facing your fears, which is what makes Scar such a great villain, he still had a hold on Simba even after all these years. He was brave enough to confront the past but he was still afraid of what he thought he'd done.

I'm just left wondering why they didn't bother including that detail in the film.

I thought that joke sucked. These "LOL @SJW'S" jokes are already dated. Anti-SJW's have been more whiny than SJW's for a good year or two now. Doug should just make a anti-SJW rant channel if he wants to talk about it and stop inserting these lame jokes into his videos.

@@MaximumHeresey Well it's true. Channel Awesome is basically becoming another whiny anti-SJW KZread channel at this point.
